Warner Press Heroes of Promise Series #1: The Legend of Gid the Kid and the Black Bean Bandits

Take a trip to the Wild West in this adventure of biblical proportions! The town of Promise may look calm, but there's trouble brewin'. The notorious Black Bean Bandits are on the rampage, raiding the town and stealing their entire supply of beans. And how can you make blue ribbon-winning chili without black beans? Without a sheriff to lead them the town is paralyzed with fear until one of their own is challenged to take drastic measures and make a daring stand for what's right. It's a classic story of right versus wrong!

Based on the biblical account of Gideon found in Judges 6:11-7:25, Legend of Gid the Kid and the Black Bean Bandits demonstrates to kids the ageless message: Stand up for what's right, even when it's not easy. With amazing computer-generated artwork and storytelling at its silliest, The Legend of Gid the Kid is a tale that families will be sure to enjoy. You'll also find a recipe for Black Bean Chili at the end of the book, as well as "Ponderin' Points" to help children work through the lessons they have seen in the book. Recommended for ages 6 to 10.

My son is obsessed with this book! We have to read it everyday; sometimes several times a day. He is two years old, but my daughter also loves it and she is 5 years old. The book is full of adventure and it is a great tool in showing children what can happen when we trust God. Plus it has amazing graphics! I even enjoy reading it. I would say the age ranges for this book would be 10 yrs old and under.

This retelling of the Gideon story in a "wild west" setting is truly ingenious! Lots of details added to the artwork on each page. Younger children will enjoy finding the hidden geckos in the scenes. The rhyming storyline is well done and adds to the overall appeal. The 3-D computer generated artwork reminds me of Pixar production. Overall it is a book kids will want to read again and again. The lesson of standing up for what is right, even in the face of bullies is a lesson worth teaching our children. The discussion questions in the back of the book help bring home the message in a personal way. I hear there are going to be 5 stories in this series. I'm anxious to see the next book due out in January. In the meantime, Gid the Kid makes a great birthday or special present for those children in your life.

I just wanted to say that I thought this was one of the best children's books that I have seen and read in a long time. All the way from the story line to the Graphics. It looks like it came from a movie! Pixar style! Anyway...It keeps straight to the facts of the story in the bible even though it has the western twist to it. All of my little brothers and sisters enjoy reading it and want to read it over and over again. GO MILLER BROTHERS!!!
