My father bought me this when I was a child and it carried me into high school. I now bought it for my great nephew who also shows artistic ability. !!
It is still filled with the basic aspects of drawing. I will buy it again.

As a child of the 1950's, I watched Jon Gnagy's Learn to Draw TV program on Saturdays. I remember buying the early drawing set and was astonished to find they are still available. If anything, the packaging on the current sets is better than I remembered, although the contents are the same. My one complaint is that the book now contains 3 languages on each page. Everything is compressed to accommodate this, making the pictures much smaller than the original (single language) book. I would have preferred each language section to stand alone with full size pictures, i.e., the English section presented entirely with full pictures, etc. This would result in a much thicker book, but the other 2 language sections could be pulled and discarded, and the desired language section would be much clearer. Otherwise, everything is as I remembered it. Jon Gnagy's approach starts simple but can be applied to all drawing. Inspiring and well worth the low cost of the set. Highly recommended for those wanting to Learn to Draw.

Disappointed! My daughter was looking forward to her learning to draw kit but instead of further inspiring her she was confused and lost because the instruction booklet was very difficult to read and follow and gave minimum instructions. She has used it twice and now it just sits. Even the method to sharpen the pencils wasn't clear. If we were supposed to use only the "sharpening sandpaper" it took 45 minutes to sharpen!

This product is as I remember the original set that I had as a child in the late fifties. The companion TV series is still availble on YouTube. The sketching paper in the set is of poor quality and I recommend you buy better quality drawing paper that the charcoal will adhere to better. Have fun.

I had this kit when I was a youngster and liked it so much I just had to get one for my granddaughter. It is easy to use and has many basic tips for drawing, including basic shapes, shading and perspective. I would recommend it for any budding artist.

I grew up learning to draw with Jon Gnagy when he was on television. I had this kit as a young girl, and now that my grand-daughter wants to draw I was excited to find it available again. Anyone with the desire to practice a bit can obtain satisfactory results with his instructions. Best of all the skills learned can be used to create other pictures, not just the ones in the lessons.
