I personally enjoy reading pretty much anything Max Lucado writes. I like the way he tells stories - they capture your attention and can be remembered and understood. I recently received the book Next Door Savior for review and am delighted for the opportunity to share it with you!
Next Door Savior: Near Enough to Touch, Strong Enough to Trust
Author - Max Lucado
Publisher - Thomas Nelson
Favorite Features -
Challenges us to understand Who Jesus Is: "Don't we need a God-man Savior? A just-God Jesus could make us, but not understand us. A just-man Jesus could love us, but never save us. But a God-man Jesus? Near enough to touch Strong enough to trust. Do you journey to the Grand Canyon for a souvenir T-shirt. No. The reward of the Grand Canyon is the Grand Canyon. The Cache of Christianity is Christ. Fellowship with Him. Walking with Him. The heart-stopping realization that He Who can dig the Grand Canyon with His pinkie thinks you are worth His death on a Roman timber. Christ is the Reward of Christianity."
Calls upon us to make a choice: "When it comes to Christ, you gotta pick. Call Him crazy, or crown Him as King. Dismiss Him as a fraud, or declare Him to be God. Walk away from Him, or bow before Him, but don't play games with Him. Don't call Him a great man. Don't list Him among decent folk. Don't clump Him with Moses, Elijah, Buddha, Joseph Smith, Muhammad or Confucius. He didn't leave that option. He is either God or godless. Heaven sent or hell born. All hope or all hype. But nothing in between."
Encourages us with: "Satan is to God what a mosquito is to an atomic bomb." and "The stumbles of a toddler do not invalidate his birth. The stumbles of a Christian do not annul his spiritual birth."
I am happy to once again see the discussion guide in the back - read this book with someone you know and be sure to talk about what you read!
It can be oh, so easy, too easy, to think of Jesus as Someone Who is far away, but the truth is, He is "next door"! He is actually with us and in us! This book will challenge and encourage you with the truth about Jesus: "He is near enough to touch, strong enough to trust"! I love how it encourages us with; "Religious rule keeping can sap your strength It's endless. No prison is as endless as the prison of perfection. Her inmates find work, but never peace. How could they? They never know when they are finished. Christ, however; gifts you with a finished work. Bid farewell to the burden of religion. 'He Who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus'. (Philippians 1:6)"
Next Door Savior will challenge and encourage you, but it will also delight you with the truth of Who Jesus is and how you can really know - and trust Him! This will change how you see, and live, your everyday life! Read it and pass it on to people you know and love!

A first time reader of Max Lucado, and am writing this review out of obligation.....I have read the Bible cover to cover numerous times and i am quite convinced with the work of Christ and the testimony it brings, but this writer just turns the whole story into a fantasy tale. If you have never read the bible before and lazy at getting to it then you might appreciate the illustrations in his writing. The Bible is complete and it written well, nothing to be added or taken away. All the illustration just makes it boring to me, cos if this book is to minister to the lost for Christ, it will fail, in the aspect of preaching the undiluted word of God. The word of God is not FICTION!
That been said, the book does not have a story line, each chapter talks about something totally different from the previous chapter which is not engaging to me. you will have to read and take breaks between each chapters. This writer did not catch my attention but a few of his illustrations did stick a bit without the fiction. Like the story of peter when he first met Jesus and after his Resurrection when he went fishing, he could not catch any fish without Jesus despite his years of experience as a fisherman. He needed Jesus to be fulfilled in his secular profession. Now that is something to write home about, as a Doctor ,Lawyer or Teacher or even a Stay at Home Parent ,whatever your profession might be you need Jesus to be fulfilled, to be accomplish.
I would recommend this book for anyone who finds it tedious in reading the bible or does not understand the stories and the parables in the Bible. Middle school and High School students, teenagers in general will appreciate this book and Hopefully they will pick up the Bible and get the message of the undiluted word of God.
I receive this book for free from the publisher through BookSneeze, blogger program. I am not required to write a positive review. The opinion i express are my own.

The writings of Max Lucado, in his book, NEXT DOOR SAVIOR: Near Enough to Touch, Strong Enough to Trust, are a combination of anecdotes and true stories, both personal and scriptural, that bring to us "real life" and "relevant" reminders of God's amazing nearness. Chapter by chapter you will receive exhortation and blessing. There is NO person He won't touch. There is NO place He won't go.
If you long to grasp, even a little, and on a personal level, what it means when Paul writes, "He who is at the right hand of God, also intercedes for us" (Romans 8:34), this book is for you.
The conclusion leaves a powerful summary (and one of my favorite lines), "Yes, he is in heaven. Yes, he rules the universe. But, yes, he has walked your streets. He's still the next door Savior". Go ahead, read it, touch him, trust him.

The Next Door Savior: Near Enough To Touch, Strong Enough To Trust, written by Max Lucado, is a book that opens our hearts and reminds us of the true extent of God's love.
Max's writing style, which is so admired by many, seemingly carries the readers of this publication into the power of the Word and the presence of God. He transforms Biblically accurate stories into relatable scenarios on a level that brings forth his lessons in an understandable manner. Max's life stories change this book from another publication into a personal understanding of what people experience within society today.
These words are found in the conclusion to the book entitled, Still in the Neighborhood: "Yes, he is in heaven. Yes, he rules the universe. But, yes, he has walked your streets. He's still the next door Savior. Near enough to touch. Strong enough to trust." WOW!!!
This inspirational publication will certainly leave its reader with a lasting impression of God and His desired presence within our lives. Thus it is a highly recommended read. Pick yourself up a copy and a second one as a blessing for a friend.

Max Lucado is an awesome story teller. He is so simple. In this book he addresses every situation you could possibly be in and makes it fit you personally. He gives character and personalities to individuals in the bible which makes him more able to relate to you. God is doing great things thru Max Lucado, I haven't read anything of his yet that I didn't like!!
