Educators Publishing Service Get Ready for the Code, Book A

Book A, Get Ready for The Code, teaches consonants b, f, m, k, r, and t. Get Ready for The Code, Get Set for The Code, and Go for The Code, which all introduce the consonant letters, comprise a three-book series of primers for the Explode The Code series. The exercises are designed to develop visual, auditory, and kinesthetic perception of the letters. Activities include tasks such as visual tracking, matching, tracing, copying, and identifying the letters and their sounds. Special emphasis is given to discriminating between similar objects and letters, to developing the motor control necessary to write legibly, and to developing the listening skills children need to follow directions carefully. By the time children finish the series they will have learned all of the lowercase consonant letters as well as their sounds and written forms, and will be ready for Book 1 of the Explode The Code series. For teachers guide to listening exercises - see stock # 379852.

My almost four year old daughter has loved doing the Get Ready, Get Set, and Go for the Code workbooks. It has really helped her with writing her letters and she loved all the activities in each section. I am definitely glad that we started at this level for her as it has given her such a great sense of accomplishment to have simple activities to do while working on her letter writing and sounds.

This primer is through with a variety of activities that address fine motor skills, letter - sound correspondences and visual acuity. The variety of activities keeps my little one interested. He'll ask to do additional pages over what he has to do.

These get ready for the code books are wonderful. I used them with my older daughter for preschool and she was right on to start Kindergarten (even a little ahead). Now my cousin uses them in her preschool and loves them! GREAT PRODUCT!!

This system was recommended to me by a friend and my 4yo son begs to do it every day... I have to pace him so that he doesn't do it all at once! The concepts are pretty basic but perfect for this level of learning.

I have used several of the higher level books in the ETC series with my oldest daughter and wanted to start doing some preschool-type work with my 4-year-old son. We just started using Get Ready for the Code, Book A, and he loves it! The twenty minutes recommended in the teacher's guide is perfect for my son's attention span, and the books really help to promote an "I can do it!" attitude toward learning. He looks forward to working on his own Explode the Code book each day and doesn't seem to get frustrated with it very easily. His writing is starting to come along now as a result of using the book and practicing writing that lesson's letter each day, and he is really developing more self-confidence as he sees that he can do this.
I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a great preschool curriculum for their child. Neither you nor your child will be disappointed!

Great book for 4 year olds to work on alone. It provides good repetition before getting boring. 4 year olds can work alone after getting started with diretions from an adult.

This book is a great way to teach little ones their lowercase letters and sounds. There is enough reinforcement that the letter sounds really seem to stick.

I got this for my 4 year old and she loved! I really appreciate the way each letter is presented, mixed with different activities, related with that particular letter. It makes it interesting and fun, work the same letter in different ways. She got her first "Explode the Code" book just like big brother!

Purchased for a preK to keep active over the summer. (We had previously tried various Kumon, Handwriting without Tears and HOP products.) This was the first workbook that my child actually said he liked and requested to do more. I like the repetition and varied presentations for each letter.

I bought these books to send to my brother in Germany. he has three boys who aren't learning English reading and writing skills. These books will be a great way for his parents to help them learn to read and write. I saw them from a friend of my who is a teacher and she uses them at her school. I substituted for her oneday and used the books. I thought they were great and wanted to purchase them. You can't beat the price either!

I started this program with my son when he turned four years old. After working with him through books a,b,c and then completing the first book he was able to read. I am continuing to work with him now in book 2. I am very pleased with the program!

This was the 3rd phonics curriculum I tried and it was a great success (I'm using the next series as well). My daughter enjoyed the work and caught on much easier. I just started the books (A,B,C) with my second daughter and she's racing through it. My only real complaint would be some of the actual illustrations, sometimes its hard for me to figure out much less a 5yo. But overall its a great way to teach writing and letter sounds.

We are a homeschool family and my 4yo Pre-Ker loves this series! The A-B-C Code books are easy, just enough repetition she gets the lesson but not too much that it's dull. She loves to color the pictures, so I'm glad they're in B/W. She has gone through the first books (A&B) in about 3 months and she's excited about starting C. She sees letters she knows & blurts them out all the time. It's wonderful to see her learn.
There are some who say you need the teacher book, but I don't think it's necessary. There are about 5 pages in each book you "need" it for, but I make up a simple riddle and have her say the right picture and sounds. Save your money (even though it's pretty inexpensive) and be creative. I do wish there were more upper case practice as another reviewer pointed out.
In all, I'm glad I spent the $20 on the Code A-B-C primers. I'm looking forward to starting Explode the Code 1 when we're done with this book!
