Educators Publishing Service Get Set for the Code

Book B, Get Set for The Code, teaches consonants p, s, n, j, h, and d. Get Ready for The Code, Get Set for The Code, and Go for The Code, which all introduce the consonant letters, comprise a three-book series of primers for the Explode The Code series. The exercises are designed to develop visual, auditory, and kinesthetic perception of the letters.

Activities include tasks such as visual tracking, matching, tracing, copying, and identifying the letters and their sounds. Special emphasis is given to discriminating between similar objects and letters, to developing the motor control necessary to write legibly, and to developing the listening skills children need to follow directions carefully. By the time children finish the series they will have learned all of the lowercase consonant letters as well as their sounds and written forms, and will be ready for Book 1 of the Explode The Code series. Softcover, 78 pages. For teachers guide to the listening exercises see stock # 379852.

The Get Ready For the Code books are great because they have multiple pages for each letter unlike other letter books I've seen. They use a lot of repitition which works well. My boys love doing them. I did notice that the pages of the B book are a little lower quality than the pages of the A book.

I didn't know what to expect with this book, but I've heard good things, so I thought we'd give it a try. I'm homeschooling my 3 kids and needed something for my "Young 5's" kid. He was struggling with the curriculum I bought, it didn't give enough practice on each letter sound; the pace was too fast for him. He and I both love this book. When I get it out he says "Yay, I love this book 'cause I'm SOOO good at it!" I love that! After trying many phonics programs like Hooked on Phonics, Spectrum Phonics, Red Plaid books, BOB books, Starfall, and others that just didn't work for my older 3rd grade son who is still struggling, I wanted to give my other kids a better start. I am feeling much better about this one!

My almost four year old daughter has loved doing the Get Ready, Get Set, and Go for the Code workbooks. It has really helped her with writing her letters and she loved all the activities in each section. I am definitely glad that we started at this level for her as it has given her such a great sense of accomplishment to have simple activities to do while working on her letter writing and sounds.

Overall I really like the explode the code series. I have two children using it 5 and 4 years old. I don't like the fact that book b uses jack-o-lanterns for th letter j. We are Christian and don't celebrate halloween. I was surprised that a Christian book company would sell a product with this image. I did not want to send the book back, so I tore out a couple of pages and whited out the small images of jack-o-lanterns. If you don't mind this, the books are great. I have used books A,B,C,1, 1 1/2. I plan to purchase book 2 very soon.

I have an education background, but am just getting started with homeschooling. My son just turned 5 last week, and my daughter is almost 4. My son is doing some easy reading with help, and my daughter is just showing interest. I am so glad I got the first three in the series for both of them. They were having a great time doing these today, and were very unhappy when we ran out of time and had to stop for lunch. I like the simple pictures, and the variety of examples.

I received our "Get Set for the Code" Book collection today, reviewed all of them, and have found these books very refreshing for phonic teaching. The now popular way of teaching a child to read by picture/word relationship has proven to me to be ineffective and short-termed-- according to my experiences. My children were taught by phonics and are devoted readers. This book will surely help children to learn the alphabet and letter sounds that will create words for a lifetime. Thank you for this book!

These books give lots of practice with consonants. My kids really enjoy doing them. My only problem is that they use the same example words over and over again. I'm not sure if they are learning or memorizing, or if there is a difference. We are going to continue with the series and check their progress when we get to book 1.

I LOVE the Explode the Code series! I did the first 2 with my 3 yr old and he loved it. He wanted to feel part of the group with his older siblings. We did it at his pace and he loved it. He learned so much. I had him reading about 15 sight words before his 4th birthday. We can't wait to do the next book this fall!

My son absolutely loves this. He finished the first book quickly and when we sit down for school he always grabs this book first. I am getting a set to start my 4yo daughter on them now because she is so interested in what he is doing. I have the teacher's guide but I don't use it often at all.

My 4 y/o loves the books. This is her second in the series and I have to make her stop each day or she would complete the entire thing. The instructions are simple and easy for children to complete. We look forward to Book C and entering Explode series.

A great, "parent/teacher-friendly", thorough workbook that gets the job done! If your child is ready to learn to read, the workbooks in this set are the simplest and best of the many choices available for beginning reading instruction.

LOVE this series and so do my 6 and 4 year old sons. If you are looking for something to get an emergent/prereader going, this is the book series for you. Straight-forward lessons with practical and fun exercises keep the kids engaged while learning how to "explode" the reading code.
