Craig Blomberg has already provided us with what is probably the best introduction to the gospels (Jesus and the Gospels: An Introduction and Survey), and now the best (in my opinion) non-technical commentary on Matthew's gospel. This work is marked by mature and lucid exegesis that is as informative as it is edifying. Rather than re-shaping the work of other commentators, Blomberg has obviously thought through the exegesis himself, offering concise, clear and cogent explanation of the text. The footnotes offer some interaction with previous and current scholarship. Blomberg's work is a terrific supplement to the work of Carson, Gundry and Keener. Pastors and teachers will treasure this work.
