I firmly believe these books are so good, they don't even need a review. The speak for themselves. I first read them when I was 12, and now at 16, I've read them nearly 10-13 times. I recommend them to all of my friends, and I recommend them to anyone who hasn't read them! They are a wonderful story of Good vs. Evil set in a magestical land unparalleled by any other. I love them!

The plot is little mixed up in the review... 'The Hobbit' follows the adventures of BilboBaggins, a Hobbit (hobbits are an unadventurous people, about half our height, possessing hairy feet and large appetites) who, with a band of 13 dwarves and the wizard Gandalf, sets off to reclaim the dwarves' treasure from the dragon, Smaug. During his adventure Bilbo comes into the possession of a Ring, seemingly useful in it's ability to make thewearer invisible, (how, you'll have to read 'The Hobbit' to find out). 'The Lord of theRings' is mostly about Frodo Baggins, Bilbo's younger cousin, who inherits the Ring fromBilbo after Bilbos eleventy-first birthday. Frodo soon finds out his ring is the One Ring, forged in deceit by the Dark Lord, Sauron, to control all the other Rings of Power. The Ring must be destroyed, but it can only be unmade in the fires of Mount Doom in the heart of Sauron's lands. With a fellowship made up of Gandalf, Aragorn and Boromir, both Men, Samwise (Frodo's loyal gardener), Gimli the Dwarf, Legolas the Elf, and Merry and Pippin, Frodo's young relatives, Frodo journeys to Mount Doom. However, thefellowship gets split up and temptation to use the Ring and claim it as his own is great...oooh, I probably told too much! Now you have to read 'The Hobbit' and 'The Lord of the Rings' to discover the wonderful story for yourself. I highly recommend these books. I've read 'The Lord of the Rings' about five or six times and I still cry at the end... I'd better stop now before I givesomething else away!

These are truly wonderful books! Their eloquence take you straight to Middle-earth, a land of wonder and majesty, horror and dread, in the middle of a conflict between the forces of good and evil. I very highly recommend them!

If you only read one book in your life read this trilogy! This is a great tale written by a great man. The Hobbit is a wonderful book. I am so glad Tolkien decided to continue the story with The Lord of The Rings! Tolkien does a great job at slowly feeding you information about how events will turn out. It's amazing how he focuses on small details that make a great difference in understanding the book. At end of each book you start to think that Hobbits, Elves and Dwarfs really exist! What is NEW is that the first of three huge MOVIES based on these books will be released this December. So if you haven't got around to it, or if you haven't read these books in a long time, I suggest you do so NOW, so you can form (or refresh) your own images of these great books. This series by Tolkien is the most masterful series of fiction in all of history. This is a classic collection, and it will remain one of my favorites.
