Special Agent Meghan Connors' dream of one day protecting the president of the United States is about to come true. Only one assignment stands in her way. After the vice president's rebellious daughter is threatened, Meghan is assigned to her protective detail on a secluded ranch in West Texas. Unfortunately, working with Special Agent in Charge Ash Zinders may be as tough as controlling her charge. Ash has a reputation for being critical and exacting, and he's also after the same promotion as Meghan. But when the threats escalate and security on the ranch is breached, it becomes clear this isn't the work of a single suspect-it's part of a sophisticated plan that reaches deeper and higher than anyone imagined. And only Ash and Meghan can put the pieces together before it's too late.

Sometimes your friends are not who you think they are.
Ash and Meghan, are but two Special Agents assigned to keep the Vice President's daughter Lindsay out of trouble. Lindsay has some questionable issues and is trying to get her life together. Her parents have struggled to maintain control over their daughter, but knowing Lindsay could be dangerous. Lindsay's sister is a total opposite of her, instilling jealousy and insecurity, which does not help Lindsay's shortcomings. Someone is trying to eliminate Lindsay and her family, and with death all around them who will be next?
Romance, action, suspense and drama highlight this interesting read. It took me awhile to be captured into the storyline, but once I connected with the characters and what was happening in the novel it soon became a very fast paced and promising read. This is the first suspense non western book I have read from the author and it won't be the last. Dialogue seemed real and characters were personable. Twists and turns, high action and excellent ending were entertaining and I will recommend this book to others.

Two secret agents assigned to the Vice President's daughter while she recovers from drug and alcohol abuse. They babysit, mentor, and protect her while discovering that her addictions are part of a conspiracy which threatens the heart of the nation.
The thriller part is pretty good. If you are willing to ignore some plot holes and other minor details, it even comes across as slightly suspenseful. The mystery fails pretty badly. I had most of the main characters nailed within the first couple of chapters. The romance aspect of this story was actually boring, executed as a side plot which seemed to distract from the momentum of everything else going on. I would have enjoyed the book more if that aspect had been removed and more emphasis was placed on developing the role minor characters played in the denouement.
Yes, this book is Christian, but barely so. While it is light on violence and innuendo, God only makes some passing appearances and is not a moving force in this story.
Honestly, I think this story could actually have been told better by someone else.
If you are looking for something entertaining to read, this is a fine choice and merits the three stars for allowing me to spend a few hours pleasantly diverted. If you are looking for something to deepen your faith, expand your horizons, or otherwise mentally challenge you, my advice would be to move on.

I thoroughly enjoy criminal suspense, and DiAnn Mills always delivers. I actually read this one on my Kindle before reading the finished product! My only issue with "Attracted to Fire" was keeping all of the story threads together in my imagination.
I had moments of feeling overwhelmed by plot twists, and some characters seemed to come and go at a rapid pace...at times a bit too quickly for my taste. I prefer to have time to invest in people, whether real or imagined!
BUT...the story was interesting enough to hold my interest, and I'm hoping to see continuing characters in future novels...although not clear on whether this was a stand-alone story or the beginning of another trilogy.
If you like criminal suspense, love a political flavor, and enjoy a hint of romance in your fiction, then give "Atracted to Fire" a chance.

Attracted to Fire
I just finished this fast paced action filled drama about the work of the secret Service Special Agents. This is one suspenseful novel that I had a hard time putting down, even though I knew I desperately needed to sleep. There were numerous conflicts to keep the adrenaline flowing – between the two Secret Agents (Secret Agent Meghan Conner and Secret Agent in Charge Ash Zinders, nicnamed A2Z) who were competing for the same office, the men and women thrown together on a working ranch, the vice president’s daughter and those trying to keep her safe, and even after the reader was told who the villains were, this continued.
I enjoyed learning how the characters learnt to trust each other and God in spite of the evidence they had, which is perhaps the main core of the novel. Trust between child and parent, learning to differentiate between what emotions tell you and what reality tells you. Mix in the angst of an angry daughter using drugs and alcohol to deaden perceived hurts and you have the making of a hair raising ride. Hang on tight, or get off. This book is not for the faint hearted who are looking for a rocking chair read.
I was so involve with all the action happening, I am not sure that I noticed much about the area in Texas where the Dancin' Dust Ranch is located. The novel was well written and it took a while after I was done for my heart beat to slow down to normal. Good thing, because I want to sleep tonight.

I have enjoyed reading other suspense novels by Diann Mills, and this one also kept my attention. I enjoyed the story line (Secret Service protecting the daughter of the President) as well as the setting for the story (a Texas ranch). However, I was disappointed to discover what I consider a curse word in the book. Also, considering the fact that this is Christian fiction, modesty apparently was overlooked when one male character is sent out to purchase personal clothing items for an unrelated female, and much detail and emphasis were given to those items. Aside from that, I enjoyed the novel.

I don't read a lot of contemporary fiction, but I'm really glad I picked up this book! DiAnn Mills delivers quite an action packed tale in "Attracted to Fire," and I literally could not put it down! (I had to stay up til 1:30 just to finish it last night!)
I won't bother with a plot summary, as that's already available on this site, but I'll just let you know that if you want a real page-turner, this book is for you! Granted, a few of the plot twists are predictable, but since there are so many twists and turns, it kinda makes you feel involved in the story when you're able to solve some of the mysteries alongside the main characters. :)
I also enjoyed the author's ability to weave the message of God's love, forgiveness and true salvation into the plot. One of my favorite lines from the book was "God can only use failures," which of course is true, as we "all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." However, I really liked how the author revealed the weaknesses and failures of the main characters, but showed how in allowing God to use their "broken vessels" they could accomplish more than they thought possible.
I will definitely be looking for more books from DiAnn Mills in the future!

I recently read Attracted to Fire, a work of fiction by author Diann Mills. This book is about Secret Service Agents who are assigned to protect the Vice President's drug and alcohol addicted daughter after her life has been threatened. They take her to an isolated ranch in West Texas to go through a sort of rehab while the Secret Service tries to find out what her would-be killer's identity. There are a cook, the doctor and his assistant/nurse, two ranch hands, and a six agent team comprising of one female agent and five male agents, one of which doesn't think women have a place in the Secret Service.
I enjoyed reading this book. The story has elements of suspense, romance, and mystery. It was a very easy read and had, in my opinion, well-developed characters and back story. The chapters were short which helped in moving the story along and changing which character's perspective was being explored. There were some romantic elements that I didn't particularly enjoy, but nothing terribly offensive.
Overall, I enjoyed the book and its characters and would recommend it to anyone wanting a nice, easy read that can be picked up for short bouts of reading.

Special Agent Meghan is assigned to a team protecting the vice president's daughter, and they are staying on a Texas ranch. Meghan is the only female agent, and the agent in charge, Ash, doesn't like women in the Secret Service. Ash is a good agent but demanding of his team. He and Meghan clash over work issues for awhile, but thankfully Ash realizes that Meghan is an asset to the team.
I thought the book was a good read and the mystery of the threats against the VP's daughter was interesting. However, I liked the author's award-winning novel Breach of Trust much better. That book kept me on the edge of my seat, whereas I had a harder time staying interested in this book.

I have read numerous books about the police, FBI, CIA, etc. but don't typically come across (fiction) books about the Secret Service. So, reading "Attracted to Fire" was fun! Special Agent Meghan Connors is currently assigned to protect the VP's daughter, who has a reputation for not only being badly behaved, she has a drug problem. Meghan, daughter 'protectee' Lindsay, and the other agents are sent to a ranch in Texas for Lindsay to receive treatment and be out of the public eye. While they are there some very strange and dangerous things begin to occur. There is also romantic tension with the Special Agent in Charge (I had fun figuring out some of the abbreviations) Ash Zinders. Overall Meghan is to be admired, Ash eventually has a softer side, and there is a mystery to solve - who can be trusted? Whose motives are pure and whose are deadly?
I've read a few other books by DiAnn Mills and this was definitely one of my favorites.

Special Agent Meghan Connors' has big dreams for her career in the Secret Service, to protect the president of the United States, as a female agent she has climbed her way to the top in a 'mans world' and now there is only one assignment keeping her from her dreams, that one assignment brings two large problems. One the Vice President's rowdy, rebellious daughter whose antics can cost the presidential election has now been threatened. Problem Two is Special Agent Ash Zinders, who is not only up against Meghan for the job of protecting the president but has a reputation for disliking female agents and outspoken about how they do not belong in the field.
Meghan is determined to prove Agent Zinders wrong, and Ash is determined to catch who is threatening the Vice President's daughter threw a turn of events Ash finds his heart warming to the one person that can prevent him from obtaining his dream career. As time passes Ash and Meghan, with the help of their protectee realize there is a lot more behind the threats than it seems and are on the hunt to find those behind it. Meghan and Ash quickly learn that they are unsure of who they can trust, will they figure it out before someone is hurt?
Diann Mills has created a cast of characters that pull you into their story. This book is full of action, mystery and a love story and will keep you glued to the pages until the very end. I really enjoyed this book, sometimes I found it to be a little predictable with who was behind everything, as well as the ending not being as strong as I would have hoped for, the book also left you wishing for more back story on some of the characters, throughout the book you are given glimpses but not enough to really understand some of the characters motives. I still enjoyed the story and think it is worth checking out next time you are in search of a good book.

Attracted to Fire
By DiAnn Mills
I received this e-book free from NetGalley in exchange for a book review. Attracted to Fire is a great book! Once I started reading it, I couldn’t put it down. If you are looking for a very suspenseful page-turner, this is it! Somebody is responsible for all the trouble and nobody can trust anybody.
Bob Lawson and Meghan Connors are assigned to protect Vice-President Hall’s daughter, Lindsay. VP Hall becomes President when the President’s cancer spreads. Lindsay is a drug addict and alcoholic. Ash Zinders is the agent in charge and he doesn’t like female agents. Sparks fly when Meghan and Ash get together at the Dancin’ Dust Ranch where Lindsay is taken for rehab and to be watched. While they are there, an agent is killed, a scorpion ends up in Meghan’s bed, a ranch hand and the cook are killed. Does Lindsay hold the key to what is happening? Lindsay doesn’t know who to trust or who to tell her secrets to. When she starts talking, you won’t believe what happens. You will not be able to put this book down.
David Sanchez is the psychologist the Vice-President calls in to help Lindsay. He uses supplements, vitamins and diet to combat her addictions. Does it work or is she living a nightmare? Does she really know what is going on or just imagining things? Suspense starts from page one and does not stop until you read the last page. Lindsay realizes her choices had destroyed any dreams of having the life she longed to live. She learns she has to face her demon and find out what he wants so she can stop him. She can’t trust anybody and feels she has to do it on her own. This book is about trust and forgiveness. You can’t do things on your own. You need God on your side and you need your friends so you don’t feel alone. Read Attracted to Fire by DiAnn Mills. You will be glad you did. Even after reading the book, you will be thinking about the characters and what you learned about God and trust and forgiveness. This is a definite must read! I look forward to reading other books by DiAnn Mills.

Diann Mills' latest novel, "Attracted to Fire" is one of the best books I had read lately! Filled with suspense, romance, deception and overcoming one's past, this book kept me reading page after page, but at the same time I did not want the book to end.
Special Agents Megan Connors and Ash Zinders are assigned to the same detail - protecting the Vice-President's daughter Lindsay. This is not as easy as it seems as it appears that someone is leaking information furthering putting Lindsay in danger, people are being killed and attraction is building between Megan and Ash. Lindsay had gotten pulled into the dark world of drugs, alcohol and deception, but she cannot seem to find a way out or whom she can actually trust.
Filled with twists and turns and "good" people really on the wrong side and those who have gotten sucked in without hope of staying alive if they try to escape will keep you on the edge of your seat reading. The characters are so likable and I found myself trusting both Megan and Ash along with Lindsay and Chip. I was surprised at a few twists along the way and finding out who was on what side, and I was hoping that some of the characters were not tangled up in the mess. I highly recommend this book and I am hoping that Mills will write some more novels with some of these same characters in them!

Lindsay Hall, daughter of the Vice President of the United States, is more troubled than the normal teen. When threats are made on Lindsay's life, Special Agent Meghan Connors is assigned to her protective detail. Although Meghan's dream is to protect the President, she is determined to use this opportunity to rise in rank. Unfortunately, Ash Zinders is assigned as the Special Agent in Charge. In spite of Ash's criticism and lack of friendliness, he and Meghan must work together to find the person behind the threats against Lindsay. Will they sort through the conspiracy before it's too late? Will what started as a working relationship blossom into something more? Find out for yourself in Diann Mills' Attracted to Fire.
When the opportunity arose for me to review this book, I jumped on it. I've read historical romances by author Diann Mills and looked forward to reading a contemporary suspense by her. She did not disappoint in Attracted to Fire. The suspense and action of the story kept things moving and I enjoyed the relationship growth between Meghan and Ash. The combination of romance and suspense was perfect. I'll definitely be reading Attracted to Fire again in the future.

When it comes to romance Julie Lessman is queen, when it comes to fairy tales nobody weaves a tale like Melanie Dickerson but when it comes to suspense DiAnn Mills is your gal! In her latest Lone Star state romantic drama, DiAnn takes on the Secret Service and a killer with an agenda that could affect the state of the nation. With her trademark for writing a "good" bad guy and ability to keep a reader guessing Attracted to Fire is sure to please. I love her characters too but the hero prevented me from enjoying this story as much as I could have. Ash was too much of a jerk for me to like him anymore than a little even though he does improve by the conclusion of the story. The chemistry between Ash and Meghan felt forced. I think it would have been more natural for a friendship to develop rather than a full blown romance. If you're looking for a great romance you might want to pass on this but if you're looking for drama and an adrenaline rush I'd say this could be the book for you! Even though this wasn't an all-time favorite I still enjoyed it enough to recommend it to fans of the suspense sub-genre of Christian fiction books.

And only Ash and Meghan can put the pieces together before it's too late."
"Christian" fiction is so hit-and-miss. Sometimes its indistinguishable from secular fiction, which I'm always disappointed by. This book, however, was very satisfying. It was not heavy reading, but nice and light. The story was solid, and the characters developed at a good pace.
It's a basic romance/adventure book, with a good balance of both. The characters were well developed and the dialog and interaction between characters fun and believable. Each character shares where they are in their relationship with God at some point, and the main characters were real in their faith and their struggles.
The story moved at a good pace throughout the book, not stalling to develop the characters, but adding plot elements throughout. I thought the ending was good too, not too fast and not too contrived.
Overall, I liked this book and will be looking for more by this author. I've heard that Breach of Trust and Sworn to Protect are both at least as good as this one was. Four stars - I would recommend to others, but I may or may not read it again.

Threats have been made to the vice-president's rebellious daughter, Lindsay. She is taken to the secluded Texas ranch owned by a long time friend of the VP, Burnette. Meghan, a woman on the Secret Service detail, is assigned to Lindsay's protection. She immediately bucks heads with her superior, Ash, a noted woman hater.
Lindsay's father becomes President when his predecessor's illness worsens. The threats on Lindsay's life become more severe. And then the safety of the ranch is compromised as an agent is killed.
Meghan and Ash are forced to overcome their differences and work together to protect Lindsay. Lindsay is hiding a secret but is afraid to tell the truth.
When Lindsay's father appoints Burnette as Vice-President, the drama intensifies. It seems someone on the ranch is part of the group out to get Lindsay. Ash and Meghan are not sure who they can trust.
This is a character driven novel. I had been expecting an action driven one. Because of that, the pace of this novel seemed slow to me. I am not sure what it was, but the plot of the novel did not drive me to continue to read. I did finish the book but felt I could have skipped pages and not missed much of the essential aspects of the novel.
There is a subplot of romance between Meghan and Ash. It seemed to me that Ash, originally portrayed as a “by the rule” guy (hence the nickname, A2Z), acted out of character when he fell for Meghan. I would have rather had him still be very much the perfectionist while becoming enamored with his co-worker.
The end resolved very quickly (five pages out of 400). In the previous pages, even when action happened (for example, the agent being killed), the emotional intensity was low key. The five pages near the end have intense emotions attached. To me, it was too little too late for a rewarding read.
One satisfying aspect of the novel was the Christianity of the characters involved. It was very real.
I received a copy of this book from Tyndale Publishers for the purpose of this review.
