In her debut novel, Christa Allan takes us on an emotional journey with her alcoholic heroine, whose life changes when she "loses it" while trying to choose a can of frozen apple juice in the super market. The course of the novel was, for me, sort of like starting out on a regular roller coaster--ups and downs, you sort of know what's coming but there is plenty to keep you interested--and finishing on Magic Mountain--the swings are more dramatic and you can't see what's coming. Alcoholism isn't the only subject handled with grace and sensitivity. Leah comes to grips with her past, with the death of an infant, with her relationship (or lack thereof) with her husband and father. Frankly, when I came to the last page I turned it in the hope that maybe there was one more chapter to come. I didn't want to end the journey Allan had started me on. Not only did she leave me wanting more, she left me thinking about what I'd read and the lessons I'd learned.Bring on the next novel by Christa Allan. I can't wait.

A very insightful look into the inside world of someone struggling with an addiction and marital struggles, and how other people's expectations and opinions have a profound impact on the decisions made by those struggling if and when to seek help. It is realistic and inspiring in that at the end of the day, no one can help us until we decide we are worth helping for our own sake.

"Walking on Broken Glass" is not a book that you say you enjoyed, as it is a hands-on description of alcohol addiction. A very real, gripping read about a woman with issues in her life (and who doesn't have issues?). The details of rehab showed that it is a hard experience, and that once the person is out of rehab they have to show remarkable courage in order to begin functioning properly again. Above all, this book gives us a picture of a loving, merciful God, who loves every single one of us.

I would highly recommend this book.

A well written story about addiction to alcohol and the breaking up of families because of it.

I have discovered another good author and will be looking for more books written by Christa Allen.

Too many times we think its ok to indulge in sin when we think we are controlling it. Sin controls. Excellent example of how we want other to see us. Good read.
