It's funny how two people can read the same book and come up with completely different opinions. Though I respect Patti and her opinion of the book, I completely disagree. I am not familiar with the author but was somewhat disheartened by the content of the book. He dealt very little with scripture, only a few pages, and instead I felt the content was predominantly political, warning us of the impending 'gay agenda.' So often, I feel that we, as the church, are so caught up in stopping the gay agenda that we lose sight of Christ's agenda. Jesus wasn't political. The most political thing He said was, "Render to Caesar what is Caesar's." He wasn't afraid of people who weren't moral, such as the adulterous woman. I was hoping this book would be more about how we could reach out to gay people from a biblical standpoint rather than why we should be afraid of them. We shouldn't use the Bible to hit people over the head with it. Rather we should use it to help ourselves become more like Christ so we can be His witnesses in a dark world. The Act 2 church reached out to everyone with love and gave to anyone who had need. They enjoyed the favor of everyone--and thousands were being added to their number daily. I just think our church today is a little off course and this book exemplifies that.

Nationally syndicated radio host Kerby Anderson has written a wonderful series of books A Biblical Point of View On...a variety of topics. This one on homosexuality is a great resource. The author shows empathy toward the homosexual community instead of condemnation, yet he stands true to the Biblical text. He strikes a fine balance in his view of hating the sin, but loving the sinner. Anderson answers a lot of questions that many of us have on the gay community and gives sound advice on how we can reach out to that community in the name and love of Jesus. This is a great book to share with others.
