I heard about this book from Rick Warren's Pastors ToolBox and downloaded it immediately from kindle. I read the whole thing at one sitting. It's short. An easy read, but it's profound too.

If you are a serious about your Christian walk, and you are looking for a book that will change the way you are living, this is a great book. I was very impressed.

    My favorite chapters -

The felt presence of God. I've struggled with not feeling God's presence many times. The book explained God's presence in a way that I never heard before and it really set me free. The part about the dark night of the soul was great.

Captured by the same spirit you oppose. The part about why many mentors turn on the people they mentor and the reasons why was brilliant. It explained a lot. Been there myself.

Revising the God of our expectations. This one hit home. It was all about how God takes away things in our lives to establish something better, how he begins with darkness first, then light. (The creation is used as an illustration). I loved how the patterns were shown from the beginning of the bible to the end. The part about the first born being rejected and the second born approved as a lesson for how God works was eye opening. He will not always meet our expectations. This is a very insightful and healing chapter.

The three gospels. Great chapter. I found myself and others I know described here perfectly. The gospel makes far more sense now. Freeing.

Stripping down to Christ alone. I resounded with the author's views on the Holy Spirit and his discussion of Christ v.s. the Spirit was really great and helped me to understand my own walk better. Loved the story about the two groups coming together, one that didn't believe in spiritual gifts and the other that did. Amazing story.

Your Christ is too small. This part really blew me away. The part about God vanishing and Jesus appearing and disappearing at his resurrection and then applying that to our walk now was awesome. Lots of deep truths here.

Spiritual conversation styles. Lately I've been in disagreements with some of my friends over theological issues. The climate is really harsh right now with Christians who don't see eye to eye. This chapter really helped me to see how we can think we disagree when we really don't because our styles of talking about theology are different.

The chapter on hearing God's voice and the three ways he speaks was excellent too. Really practical. Never heard it put like that before.

I loved how the author used scripture and experience and many personal illustrations to make his points. Highly recommended.

Yet again, Frank has nailed down multiple truths that God, in His infinite wisdom, has been revealing — apparently not just to me. "Revise Us Again" presents ten areas of our spiritual walk that ALL of us need to examine (2 Corinthians 13:5). As I read through this book, I found myself time and time again saying, "AMEN AND AMEN". Frank does not take up sides with any denomination or doctrine, but rather holds these to the standard of scripture to reveal how far off we have drifted from God's original design. In this book Frank asks the hard questions many today are asking and gives sound, scriptural direction to help find the true answers. Frank questions some modern day accepted "Christian" practices and thought processes and shows us through contextual scripture how we have totally missed what God's original intent was. For example, in Chapter 5, "What's Wrong With Our Gospel?", Frank sums up perfectly, I think, where the modern church left the road when he says, "...the goal of the gospel is not to get you out of hell and into heaven, but to get God out of heaven and into you so that He may be displayed visibly and glorified in His creation."

If you find yourself questioning why today's Christian life does not resemble the Christian life you read about in scripture, "Revise Us Again" will make a perfect starting point to begin a journey of revelation God is bringing a remnant to. This book is as insightful as "Reimagining Church" and "From Eternity to Here". If you are not afraid to let God out of the box of religion then you will read this book!

I found this book interesting and easy to read. Viola asks us to examine our Christian life and habits to make sure that we are actually living a life that is following Jesus' example and not one that is strictly based on habits learned from our church and fellow Christians. We all fall into habits, it doesn't hurt to examine them and see which ones are good and which ones need to be revised. His 10 chapters each deal with an area that is easily influenced by culture and social expectations especially in the area of language usage. He made good points in each area with excellent examples. Definitely a book to read and refer to often.

Because our Senior Pastor requested that we get this book for Bible Study that started 8/2018, I was hesitate to get another book since we're still doing another that haven't been completed and think I would have the time. This book had me really thinking about all the things that I do subconsciously and don't realize it and need to "reset & revise" myself. Thought provoking and a lot that I still don't agree with but definitely a read that I found myself doing a lot of highlighting points. We should all read this book!

Revise Us Again: Living From a Renewed Christian Spirit calls upon Christians to examine and rescript the habits, practices, and language of their lives. Whether you have been a Christian one day or one hundred years, you have spiritual ethos that is shaped by the Bible, church teachings, society, environment and traditions. However, authentic Christianity requires that each person must examine his or her own spiritual worldview and then turn to the Bible for the authentic, original script of life.

Each chapter in Revise Us Again by Frank Viola is relatively short and easy to read. I was pleased with this aspect since I used the book as a companion to my daily Bible reading. Chapter three was my personal favorite of the entire book. It discussed how Christians sometimes use prayer as an excuse to decline a request. Viola emphasizes the need for honesty and authenticity. I felt like many of Viola's points were good, but not all were completely backed up with Scripture. In those parts, more Scripture would have perhaps been more convincing. I also felt like there were a few teachings that did not line up with Scripture. That being said, I do not feel like this is a bad book. I simply emphasize that Revise Us Again, like any book with spiritual teachings, should be compared with the Bible's teachings to see if the teachings line up.

I recommend this book only to those who are brave enough to read with an open mind, examine personal beliefs, and compare the book's teachings with the Bible.
