Fox Faith Because of Winn-Dixie, DVD
The summer Opal and her father, the preacher, move to Naomi, Florida, Opal goes into the Winn-Dixie supermarket and comes out with a dog. A dog she dubs Winn-Dixie. Because of Winn-Dixie, the preacher tells Opal ten things about her mother, one for each year Opal has been alive. Winn-Dixie is better at making friends than anyone, and because of Winn-Dixie, Opal meets Miss Franny Block, who once fought off a bear with a copy of War and Peace. She meets Gloria Dump, who is nearly blind but sees with her heart, and Otis, an ex-con who sets the animals in his pet shop loose after hours, then lulls them with his guitar. Opal spends all that summer collecting stories about her new friends and thinking about her mother. But because of Winn-Dixie, or perhaps because she has grown, Opal learns that friendship--and forgiveness--can sneak up on you like a sudden summer storm. Recommended for ages 8 and up. Rated PG, approximate running time is 109 minutes.

It was slow in part but whata great story of the love of a child and her animal and how people came around after Winn Dixie arrived. Heart warming and family safe!

The movie was cute, however, I think they gave more credit to the book war and peace than the Bible. The ending was good, I got a spiritual feeling from the singing.

I thought this was a children's movie and I would watch it with my 4 year old niece. I was wrong. My husband and I enjoyed every minute of it!

I think this is a wonderful movie. My little 2 yr old grandson loves to 'watch' it. I dont know if its the little girls big eyes or what but he is enthralled by it. Stands there for 20 min without flinching..for a 2 yr old that is something!! The story is endearing. A real world people with real world issues and how they all come together as one big family. It teaches how to love someone even if they are different than you. They have something to give no matter who they are. Tolerance of differences and challenges when life plays the hard card, each of us can learn something from this movie.

This is was a really great book and a really great movie. It was cute and funny all in one. It was amazing how one dog could bring a bunch of different people around. My little cousin who is six is borderline autistic and she got one of three puppies that we rescued from an abandoned house, and the puppies name was Vixie but she couldn't say Vixie so she named her Dixie, because of this movie.

We bought this movie for our children a few years ago. They have since grown up. However, we have now purchased it for other families with young children! We have given this DVD to at least 10 other families. This is a really good family movie. It will keep everyone's attention. The price is a plus!

The "subtle" issues with this film are pretty overt, to me. A child who goes off, doing whatever she wants, unprotected. She yells disrespectfully at her father constantly and never really submits to his authority. Names are called; children are mean and rude. No real gospel message or care. Setting of the movie is rather depressing. Do not let your kids see what you don't want them to emulate. adisrespectful, lonely child who always does whatever she wants is not a heroine in my book, nor in His.

I wouldn't want anyone to let their children watch, "Because of Winn-Dixie" because of the parrot which keeps saying a phrase like this: "Shut-Up Idiot!" This phrase really sticks in the kid's minds and then your children end up repeating this over and over! Do your family a favor and DON'T watch this one!!!! It also has kids going off by themselves which is very dangerous nowadays!

Fantastic Christian movie for the entire family... Shows the life a Christian family goes through after losing their Mother to Alcohol. The Father, a pastor trying to provide for family and his flock has many decisions to make that are not easy. The daughter befriends a dog because most of the other children don't take to new children. Later, with the help of the dog, the little girl finds out that many of the children also have great crosses to bear in their lives; which results in many new friendships with young and old alike..... My children liked this movie, even though the younger ones didn't really understand the adult overtones.Prayer and song throughout.... The mother was missing from action from the start, so no alcohol was involved....

This is a GREAT movie for the family to watch together (not many of these around anymore). I am a senior and have watched this several times and liked it better with each viewing. The kid and dog are wonderful. You will NOT be disappointed if you purchase this movie and feel good when children watch it over and over!!!!!

Wow. Having been a divorced mom for almost 7 years and having done much to stay close to God and teach my (now) 10-year-old daughter to love and follow Him, I could understand much of the struggles of the preacher. And I also understand and delight in the way our Heavenly Father works through the love of a child to bring people together--especially those who would not otherwise take the time or trouble to care for one another. I like the way the movie dealt very realistically with life issues. The only thing wrong with this is it needs a sequel!--Tonja Taylor, author of LEGACY: Crafting Your Child's Future With Words

This is a cute film about a sweet girl and how she brings people together. It has funny parts and some moving parts. But beware, there are 2 swear words in it, and it is not a Christian movie--although it does have Christian references and a theme of love and community.
