Seven years has passed and Dayna has gotten along with her life and finally moved on from the husband that cheated on her and the women -her once friend whom he has now married and is in a good job and has meet a wonderful knight in shining armour - Warren. All is going great until one day , Dayna recieves a surprise visit from her ex-husband Brent who has come bearing sad news and hopes of gaining her forgiveness. We learn that Brent is dying and wishes to get all his feelings out in the open as he has never stopped loving Dayna. As the novel goes along , we read as Dayna , Warren , Brent and Tamara all struggle with the reconnection and feelings of jealously and anger will arise as Brent becomes insistent on spending more time with Dayna. Can Dayna open her hurt filled heart to Brent and hear him out or will the hurt bubble up and the pain he caused her , cause an old wound to re-open and tear? Can Dayna's new lover Warren compete with her ex-husband Brent for Dayna's affections or will he soon realise that she is not completely over him and that she may never love him as she did her first husband ? Will Brent realise what a mistake he made or will the re-connection be just the encounter he needs to discover that the life he has with wife Tamara is still standing strong ? A loving and tearful novel that teaches that no matter what happens when pain and the past catches up with you it will always hurt but if you have faith and hope and learn to stretch beyond that , you leave your heart open to being able to recieve the true meaning of unconditional love.
If someone asked me to sum up this book with just one word - powerful would be my choice. I had no idea what to expect when I started reading this book and I certainly wasn't prepared for the emotional ups and downs, but this book was impossible to put down once I started it.
This book made me think long and hard and many times, while reading it, I tried to put myself in both Dayna and Tamara's place. This storyline was completely believable and relevant and I appreciate that the author didn't overdo the emotions in this book, but kept the plot very believable. This is a story of unimaginable grace, love and forgiveness. I highly recommend it!
Wow! This is an interesting thought provoking read. What would you do in Dayna's place? She seems to have it all ....great job, great friendships, and in a relationship that seems to be leading to marriage. Then all of a sudden there is her former husband, who dumped her for another woman, at her door! Had to ask what would I do?? Very, very hard question. She has moved on and with the help of God has forgiven, but now it is in her face. Don't know how I felt about Warren, her new man, he was rather unsupportive at times. This is a real page turner of a book, and I enjoyed the story. Made you feel like you are in the real world, not a fictional book. Throughout the book there is a theme of Forgiveness and giving everything over to God. Loved the different relationships here and how they followed their Lord.
I received this book from Tywebbin Virtual Events and the Publisher Zondervan, and was not required to give a positive review.
Coming Home is a deeply spiritual and emotionally healing novel penned by one of my favorite Women's fiction authors. The title of this book fits the themes in the story, which really made me, as a reader, think. The author's greatest strength as a novelist is her ability to dig deep and pull out universal truths while examining them through her characters' lives. I learned a lot from seeing the world through Dayna and Tamara's perspectives. Their situations were personally challenging and oh-so-true to life. How the author showed through this story that our upbringing often influences our present situation was also well done and insightful. I adore books that make me think about my own heart and my walk with God. Coming Home delivers on all accounts.
As far as heroes go, I adored Warren, but I also understood Brent. Warren really was a perfect match for Dayna in a number of ways. I loved how the author made their relationship and normal conflicts so realistic. Nothing was watered down, but at the same time, the author didn't go over the top with any of the scenarios she presented. I totally understood Dayna's insecurities and her feeling of divided loyalties between her current relationship and the past. I also felt her sense of betrayal when she found out everything wasn't what she first believed regarding her best friend.
More than that, I loved how the author skillfully developed several perspectives which showed how people often do things because of how it makes them look, or how it makes them feel, without considering the consequences to others. One powerful example was how Dayna in her own subtle way found her ex's sudden need for her poetic justice. Another was how she showed Dayna's ex's need to express his emotions and regret to Dayna had actually put a wedge between him and his current wife. These scenarios were complex, but skillfully delivered.
If you are looking for a deep read that provides spiritual insight and heart-wrenching, believable conflict, this author delivers a solid story every time. I always finish her novels feeling inspired to love God more and to draw closer to the people I love around me. That's great writing.
