Zondervan The NIV Family Reading Bible: You Can Lead Your Family through God's Word / Special edition - eBook

If you are one of the millions of Christian parents looking for a way to engage and understand the Bible together as a family, The Family Reading Bible is the Bible to meet your needs. Throughout the development of this unique Bible, the special content (questions, fun facts, and more) was tested by Christian families just like yours, who provided insightful feedback and help in order to make this Bible useful for you and your family in everyday life. The Family Reading Bible is designed to help parents use the Bible itself as their family devotional tool. A reading system with three easy-to-use tracks allows parents to accommodate children of various ages and stages. Readings of manageable length along with age-appropriate, engaging questions will encourage and maintain your kids’ interest in God's Word.

The Family Reading Bible is the perfect tool for parents in their role as the spiritual leaders of their home.

Features
  • Three reading tracks
    1. Short Path—for families with tight schedules or children under 9
    2. Long Path—for longer devotional times and children over 9
    3. Off the Beaten Path—provides an opportunity for creative exploration of various topics of the Bible such as the Christmas story, Angels and Demons, Kings and Queens, and other fun topics.
  • The Family Reading Bible is organized in standard canonical order, but the readings are read in chronological order. Example: when a reading about David in 2 Samuel is connected to a Psalm David wrote, you will be directed by page number to a devotional reading from that Psalm. You will then be returned by page number back to the next reading in 2 Samuel.

This book was a gift for my father as a replacement to his old NIV1984 Bible. He was very satisfied with it.

I like the 'short','long', and 'off the beaten path' sections of reference in this bible to further enhance your reading and guided learning. I am anxious to see our children be excited about hearing God's word in this format.

Use CAUTION when selecting and reading this Bible. We were excited to find a Bible that had devotions for multiple ages that could grow with our family. The layout is well thought developed and we are enjoying using this Bible during our family devotion time. However, when we came to the story of Noah, we were disturbed to find that the commentary is compromised by including an Old Earth Creation view. On page 8 it reads, "We don't know how many years passed after the creation of the world to the time of Noah. It may have been thousands of years; it may have been millions." It GREATLY concerns me that a controversial belief is embraced in the lesson and treated as a valid interpretation. I am thankful that I was able to look ahead and edit this before reading it out loud to my young children. How confusing it would be to them for me to teach them something and the "bible" to tell them something else. I now wonder how many other lessons I will have to edit, or if I should have to read a day ahead to prevent a disaster of biblical proportions from occurring in our family devotion time.I wanted to warn others of this before they purchase this Bible.

Without a doubt I think that this is the best Bible concept ever that I have found. Start (and keep) a family tradition of reading the Bible together. How important that is! Yet, then how often do you find people that really keep to it? In my own Bible study, I'm a little her and there and everywhere reading what is currently applying to me and my interests. The children in our lives are so important and guiding them to grow in a family of faith that knows their Bible is so valuable. As the back cover states the fact: Maintaining your kids' interest in family Bible reading can be difficult for any parent. Where to start? How to keep them interested? How to connect it all to everyday life?
