This award-winning Unusual Films production depicts actual events from the life of Robert S. Sheffey, a nineteenth-century circuit rider. The film tells the story of a unique servant of God, who as a rowdy young man followed his friends to a revival meeting and there found in the Scriptures new direction for his life. Ardent in prayer, tireless in service, and steadfast in defense of the truth, "Brother Sheffey" rides through the hills spreading the gospel. Although he suffers the loss of his two greatest earthly treasures in one day, Sheffey still finds forgiveness in his heart for the person who caused his sorrow. Based on the book The Saint of the Wilderness by Jess Carr, Sheffey brings hope, courage, joy, and tears. It captures the warmth and compassion of a man whose soul was on fire for the Lord, and, in the words of Bob Jones III, "Every Christian who sees this film will be warmed by that heavenly heat." Approx. 2 hours 15 minutes.

I watched this movie several times as a Bible College teenager. When I saw it as a DVD I kinew it had to be a Christmas Present.

For a christian movie made in the 70s the quality is ahead of its time, and the Story content is the best. The Life of a man with the desire to give his all to our LORD.

The movie "Sheffey" has been a favorite of our family for many, many years. It is inspirational to watch the life this mountain circuit rider lived so faithfully for the Lord Jesus. I encourage all Christians to add it to their DVD library.
We were able to meet and come to know and love one of the actors in this film. It was Billy Kelly who played the moonshiner whose steel was destroyed by a tree in a driving storm after Sheffey prayed that it would be destroyed. Billy was a great man of God. He lived and preached the Word of God. Go buy this today!!!

I had heard of this film for years, but had never seen it. I wish now I had bought it earlier! It is a great - and true - story, with inspiring devotion to God and a moving storyline. The production values are excellent, especially considering the technology available at the time it was made. Highly recommended!

This movie is a lot longer than your average movie. It was a great movie. We enjoyed watching it. There is nothing bad in it. It is hard to find many clean good movies now days that are Christian and this one is really good.

My dad bought this movie a few years ago, then passed the DVD on to someone else to enjoy. He often commented that he wished he could see it again. I was so glad to find it on Christianbook.com!

All ages could be inspired by the faithfulness of "the Lord's Servant, Sheffey." A powerful testimony of following the LORD and not men. A testimony to the fact that the LORD uses those that He choose, with or without degrees, amazing credentials, etc.
Loved the compassionate concern that all needed to know Christ, not religion or tradition.
Loved the horses... Sheffey's ability through Christ to forgive and to always present first and foremost every man's need for Jesus Christ.

I have seen Sheffey about 10 times or more & every time I see it I get steered to always trust in God he will never let you down. This copy of Sheffey was for a friend they told me they really enjoyed it. I think I have bought 4 copies & have pass them around.

My children loved it very much. I was very inspiring to see what Lord did in his life, and to see the dedication he had toward the Lord. Thank you for making it available to us, we were certainly blessed.

I first saw the movie when I rented it online. All I really knew about it was that it was a college production. From that, I assumed it would be an amatuer production in every way but sometimes that's a good thing. They did a better job than anyone in Hollywood could or would have. They captured everything about the era so well, one could immerse himself in the film. The filming made me feel like I was part of the film.
Robert Sheffey lived the way Jesus would have, given the same surroundings. He knew the needs of the people and he gave of himself until he died. He never asked anything in return and never looked back. He was the Saint of the Wilderness, as the book that inspired the movie implies.
This movie was extremely hard to find and once I found it, I keep coming back to buy it for friends who need a lift in their spiritual well being. For that, I thank Christian books. When you watch it, look for a dialogue in the middle and one at the end that relate so well to things going on in the world today. You will be overwhelmed. History repeats itself; we need another Sheefey today.

This was truly a man after God's heart. This was a life changed for God and used for His glory. We can all learn from Seffey's example - focus on God and His Kingdom, not on this world and its temporal things. Highly recommended.

The DVD on the life of Robert S. Steffey was a wonderful film of this man's life. I purchased this for my brother's birthday, but watched it before I gave it to him. I loved it. The faith that he had as he work tireless hours for the Lord under so many difficult situations was amazing. Sheffy's prayer life and faith was truly directed by the Holy Spirit. This film gives a true picture of a man that his steps were directed by the Lord. This is a film I would gladly see a second time.

Very good film. It brought out well how much and how important prayer was throughout the life of Sheffey once he was born again(saved). Answers to his prayers came even after his death. Recommended for encouragement to any who may be be seeing a great lack of faith in today's churches.
