Bethany House What Is Heaven Like?

What will it be like to live with God forever? A boy and his sister wonder that one day when they are missing their recently deceased grandfather. Curious, the boy sets out on a mission to find out, and he won't give up until he asks everybody he knows about eternity! Your children will love Beverly Lewis's engaging story and Pamela Querin's imaginative illustrations--and you'll appreciate the solid teaching from Scripture on every page. It poignantly addresses the questions kids ask most when they are coming to terms with the loss of a loved one. The final page offers suggestions for parents and Christian educators. Recommended for ages 4 to 8.

This book is not suitable in homes where the child's parent is absent, such as incarcerated or deceased. It speaks of a cozy home where there are two parents.

With its beautiful illustrations and simple to understand text, this book is sure to grab your little one’s attention.
What is Heaven Like, by Beverly Lewis, tells the story of a little boy wondering what heaven is like after his grandfather passes away.
He asks questions to various friends and family members, such as:
Are there animals in heaven?
Can you send a letter to heaven?
Do you have to be quiet in heaven?
Is there yummy food in heaven?
Will I look like myself in heaven?
Each page has an accompanying Bible verse taken from the New International Reader’s Version of the Holy Bible.
The boy also discovers that he can learn even more about heaven from reading the Bible. While talking to his grandmother, the boy learns how he can be assured that he will go to heaven as well.
At the end of the book, Beverly Lewis includes a note to parents with tips on how to handle questions about heaven and death that little ones might bring up.
Overall, I think this is was a great book. It was very easy to read and answered many questions that I’m sure are very common for young ones to ask. I love that it included so much Scripture. The only thing I wasn’t I agreed with was the answer that says there are probably animals in heaven (I personally don’t think there are..but that’s just my opinion.) Still, I would definitely recommend this book to anyone with young children who might be asking questions about heaven and what happens after death.
Full Disclosure: I received a copy of this book for free from Bethany House Publishers to read and review, but I was not obligated to write a positive review.

A beautifully done book. My grandson is full of questions about dying and what happens to you and I think this will help him out and not make him sad.

This book is beautifully written and I highly recommend it for little ones who have lost a loved one and have questions about Heaven. As in all of her writing, Beverly Lewis uses beautiful descriptions and scripture to tell her story of a boy and his sister who have lost their grandfather. I teach school and two of my students' (kindergarten age and third grade) father died and after showing it to their mother, I gave it to the children as a gift. She said it was very comforting to them both and the older brother read it often to the younger brother.

This book was just excellent for providing many of the answers to questions that my daughter was having about heaven, especially since her grandfather passed away. It is beautifully illustrated, and scripture references were great!

This is a good book, but it raised a lot of questions from my older boys (ages 4&5) that I was not prepared to answer, or did not have an answer for. My 5 year old seemed to understand the story, but it caused my 4 year old to be "worried" about his grandpa dying and the book seemed to scare him more than help. This book is appropriate for more mature children.

The book was a tool that I was able to use with my grandchildren because my husband and I lost our 30 year old son in a car accident this past summer and we needed to help our granddaughters (age 3 and 5) to have an easier avenue to talk about death and heaven. Being raised in Berks County, I am an avid reader of Beverly Lewis. This book was just what I needed. Thank you.

This book is fabulous! Our family lost 2 grandmothers/great grandmothers in 2008. I got this book for my children. They have a very good grasp of death and heaven but thought this would be helpful. It was helpful for ALL of us. I got teary eyed myself in the beauty and truth that is shared in this book from scripture. I love that each truth shared is backed up with scripture on each page. Highly recommend this and will give it when appropriate with families that have loss!

This is a beautifully written book! The illustrations are WONDERFUL and calming. My husband and I wish we had owned it when our sons were children and were dealing with the "homegoing" of their great-grandparents. We will keep a copy to read to our grandchildren and one to use in the Sunday school classes we teach and are giving copies to our sons and nephews families!

This is a meaningful story of how one family sees heaven now that their Grandfather has passed away. The kids get to hear about the glorious heaven that is described in the Bible and what it may be like for their Grandfather. The book does a good job in explaining death and eternal life in a way that is not scary for children.

We lost my father-in-law this past year and this book was wonderful to say the least for ALL our grandchildren and a couple of nieces that still at 8 months later have had a hard time understanding why they can't see G'pa Mobeetie and this book was amazing for both the kids and us as adults in sharing it with them. I even found great comfort in reading to myself before I had read it to them and I fully understand the wonderful gift in being able to live with God for eternity. I would recommend this book to all parents and Christian educators. As Mentors we owe this to our children/family.
