January is "Beginnings", February is "Love", March is "The Cross and Easter", and my favorite, June is "Marriage". John MacArthur really does a great job with each of these special devotionals. This is really a wonderful book for devotion, at any age! Grab this! This book would make a great gift for family and friends or it could even be purchased for personal enjoyment. I highly encourage you to get a copy and see how God can use it in your life.
They are truths that are applicable to our lives and make you really think. I really liked that. It forced me to really get into the Scripture he was referring to and dig deep. It is only by seeing life through our relationship with the Father that we will access and experience the spiritual depths he designed us for. You would Love this.

I received a complementary copy of the book Moments of Truth by John MacArthur from Thomas Nelson Publishers for reviewing the book. I would highly recommend "Moments of Truth." It is easy to ready, and pertains to our daily lives. This is a devotional book that I will keep and continue to return to. If you're looking a for a devotional book that has short but very meaningful daily entries, then you might be interested in Moments of Truth Unleashing God's Word One Day at a Time By author John MacArthur, I think this is a good devotional for all Christians to read through. This book by John MacArthur – Moments of Truth, Unleashing God's Word One Day at a Time – is not for people who can’t handle the truth! It is not your average devotional full of fluff, and easy-to-hear cliché’s. It is not going to give you that warm fuzzy read over coffee in the morning. But, this devotional will enrich your quiet time with the Lord. It is straightforward, Scripture rich, and packs a punch.
Each month has a subject that it covers in depth with Scripture with life application. Subjects relating to Truth (God’s Truth) in “Work”, “Money”, “Giving”, “Marriage”, “Love” and many more. These topics seem broad at first glance and could easily go no further than the surface level. But in true John MacArthur style, that is not the case. These are thought-provoking Scriptures and mini-Bible study lessons that will encourage a deeper time spent with God, broaden your understanding of His Word and provoke more intimate Bible reading devotional time.
If you are looking for a great devotional for yourself or someone you know (this is not a gender specific devotional – great for a guy or gal) – I HIGHLY recommend this book!!!

I’ve been looking for a daily devotional for this year and when the opportunity rose to review this new book from John MacArthur, I snapped it up. I’m glad I did.
Arranged into short daily readings, the book is grouped into monthly themes. January is for Beginnings. February is Love. September is Work. The devotions are taken from other John MacArthur books, but even if you’ve read the source material, having something distilled into one page makes it more memorable and portable, easier to chew on during the day as God brings the reading back to your mind.
Some that I’ve recalled during my day recently:
“But the children of a sinful generation are powerfully affected by the consequences of the sins of a society.”
“A weak and constantly accusing conscience is a spiritual liability, not a strength.” -- I love this whole reading on April 27th titled A Weak Conscience.
“Whenever you elevate good deeds over sound doctrine and true worship, you ruin the works too.”
Just because the readings are fairly short, don’t assume they’re shallow as well. They’re not. Many of them are downright challenging. MacArthur tackles subjects like Sanctification and Justification and God’s Sovereignty.
I highly recommend this book for anyone who is looking for a devotional book that will challenge as well as encourage them in their daily walk.
-- I received a free copy of Moments of Truth from Thomas Nelson Publishers, in return for an impartial review. We both held up our end of the bargain.

Moments of Truth by John MacArthur is a daily devotional that is set up for each day of the year. On top of that, they are split by month/ time of year for example: January isBeginnings, February is Love, March is the Cross and Easter. Each devotional is set up so that it is started by scripture followed by sound, truthful devotional, followed up by a thought provoking question. This would be a very typical John MacArthur kind of writing if you are familiar with his books at all. If you are looking for a devotional that is based in Biblical truth, this is the way to go.
My husband got me hooked on John MacArthur a couple of years ago. I don't think you can ask for a guy who has more straight-word, Bible talk than John MacArthur. I find the guy very inspiring and this books goes right along with his beliefs. I would say that you can get a lot of this devotional if you apply yourself and understand the Biblical principle. The bottom line is that it isn't full of the "fluff, feel good Christian" information that is so often shoved our way. I would recommend this one to anyone seeking a deep meaning.
I received this book free from the publisher in return for an honest review.

“Moments Of Truth”, Unleashing God’s Word One Day at a Time is a new devotional by John MacArthur. This book is not fluff and feel good reading. It is a devotional for those who are ready to go deeper in their faith and who aren’t afraid to be challenged. John presents hard-hitting truth with plenty of scripture references for further study in your own Bible.
Themes such as money, self-control, Christian growth, temptation, love, freedom, marriage, parenting, generosity, Jesus’ birth and life, the cross and end-times are covered. The devotions are taken from other books written by MacArthur and they are woven into daily nuggets of truth. Each day’s reading closes with a question to ponder for personal application.
While I appreciate the truths contained in this book, I did not care for the way this devotional reads. Using excerpts from other books is tricky and this book didn’t have an easy to read flow. While it feels more like a study guide than a devotional, this book is full of Biblical truth, but it was heavy on conviction and low on inspiration. And there is nothing wrong with that if it’s you’re preferred learning style. However, most people need a healthy balance of both in order to learn and grow.
If you are ready to grow in your knowledge of Biblical truth and prefer more of a study guide approach to a deeper understanding of the scriptures, Moments Of Truth by John MacArthur is a devotional you will want to add to your reading library.
By way of disclosure: I received a free review copy of “Moments Of Truth” by John MacArthur from Thomas Nelson in exchange for writing a review—good, bad, or otherwise.

Moments of Truth Unleashing God's Word One Day at a Time
By John MacArthur
Dr. John MacArthur has written an excellent daily devotion that focuses and expounds on one verse at a time. Each day a new gold nugget Truth is discussed. Each month of the year has a different theme. January appropriately discusses “Beginnings”. February, just in time for Valentine’s, focuses on “love”. As we near Easter in March, Dr. MacArthur expounds upon “the cross and Easter”. April’s theme, with the sprouting of all the springtime flowers, is “growing as a Christian”. Just in time for Mother’s Day, the devotions highlight “parenting”. In June, “marriage” is discussed and looked at in detail. To celebrate our country’s independence, “Freedom, America, Leadership, and War” is the daily devotionals theme throughout July. In the August heat, the book looks at the “end times.” September compiles devotionals on “Work”. As fall leaves begin to turn, October brings in the discuss of “Sin, Evil, and Temptation”. Thanksgiving / Black Friday thoughts is the perfect opportunity to discuss “Money, Giving, Discipline and Self-control”. Finally, in December, Dr. MacArthur turns to the real reason for the season and shares about “Jesus’ Birth and Life”.
This book is a very timely devotional that helps to keep us motivated to stay in the Word by unleashing God’s Word one day at a time.

If you enjoy using a devotional you will love this devotional written by John MacArthur. It's like having mini sermon bless you with each reading. These are messages from all of his works. Moments of Truth in a nut shell is powerful, poignant, and jam packed with the Word.
Each month has it's own theme. In January you begin with the theme, "Beginnings". You will find, Parenting, Marriage, Work, Money, Growing as a Christian and this power packed devotional ends with, "Jesus' Birth and Life".
Each page begins with scripture and ends with a question of value to ponder and pray over. Sort of a reflection on the mini sermon and how it touches you and challenges you to growth.
I have many devotionals and this one is sure to be a keeper. It can be a powerful tool in teaching and just a devotional you could spend five minutes with in the morning or a few hours in the evening. You can't go wrong with John MacArthur.
This book was a gift from Thomas Nelson for it's review.

Normally, I LOVE Devotional Books. I like them because they help me to keep things in perspective, do some deep soul searching and reflect about what I need to do to become more of the person God wants me to be.
Unfortunately, this book did not do that for me. Idon't really want to say that this is not a good book, because of course we all need different things in our lives and find them in different ways, but I personally was not impressed at all, ergo the "fair" rating. I have read worse, but I have also more often than not read much better.
As I was reading this book, it felt kind of bland, but I got to a specific page and it completely turn me off.
I won't get into why because it is of a personal preference, but I felt very strongly about it. The main reason I was so disappointed is because it did not measure up to the majority of Devotionals I have read and reviewed. Most have at least a DEEP Soul-searching type question at the end of each devotion. This book had one question at the end, but none of them seemed to require any what I would call soul-searching effort.
I'm sorry, but compared to most others I have read it was VERY DISAPPOINTING.

MOMENTS OF TRUTH by John MacArthur is a book of daily devotionals for a year. It can, of course, be read in one sitting if one should desire to do that but I, for one, would not, for it would be difficult ploughing.
I obtained this book for basically 2 reasons: 1)My husband loves MacArthur's teachings so I figured he would love this book and 2) I love devotional books for in them I hope to find helps in my relationship with the Lord. Well, I think my first reason was accomplished for my DH will love the book no matter what I think of it. But I did not accomplish the second reason. These devotionals, in general, are geared more to the theological, pastoral, male mind which is, of course, who MacArthur is. I was so disappointed after reading the first few pages that I just read some of the pages from each month (to form a fair opinion of the whole book) and skimmed over the rest. What's more, the subjects assigned to each month were not accurate. For example, "love" was the subject for February but the first several days had nothing to do with that. The situation is similar for some of the other months. I realize that this is not the fault of MacArthur but, rather, of whoever compiled these devotionals from his books. Which brings me to another disappointment. I thought I was getting a book which MacArthur recently wrote but these devotionals are just excerpts from several of his many other books. That's great if that's what you're looking for but I was wanting some new and fresh material from this great preacher/author.
Content-wise, it's fine...for those wanting explanations of certain aspects of the Bible and/or the Christian life. But for those wanting help to build their relationship with the Lord, it would be better to look elsewhere. I'm giving it a 3 but I'm sure there are many who will give it a 5. It all depends on what you're looking for.

Moments of Truth: Unleashing God's Word One Day at a Time by Pastor John MacArthur is a daily devotional, but it’s not like other devotionals you may have read. My first thought was this was going to be like all the other devotionals I have, but I was happily surprised to find out it was not.
While each day offers meditations starting with a verse of Scripture and a concluding question of reflection, the heart of the work rests in the short daily entries. In this unique daily devotional, Pastor John MacArthur offers readers truths that will not only inspire them, but will draw the reader in with his writings that are relevant to the season.
For example, January is ‘Beginnings’, April is ‘Growing’, June is ‘Marriage’, etc. These thoughts are short verses from a variety of Pastor MacArthur's previous books, for example "The Jesus You Can’t Ignore”, “The Truth War”, ‘Twelve Ordinary Men” etc.
I love devotionals, and I collect the ones that catch my attention as did this one. And I would recommend this book for anyone who does like devotionals but would like a devotional that is not like all other devotionals. This is a very well written devotional and will provide you with a great way to start or end your day, while drawing you closer to God.
I received this book free from Thomas Nelson Publishers (booksneeze.com) as part of their book review bloggers program. All opinions are mine.
