Well documented and very informative, Persecuted gives examples of the oppression of, and violence against, Christians all over the world. The book discusses the laws, both religious and political, that make life as a Christian in certain countries difficult, or impossible. From atheistic, communist nations to those ruled by religious law, such as Islam, each country is discussed and individual stories are told. While the main focus is on Christian persecution, the book also points out where other religions are persecuted as well, driving home the intolerance of these areas.

Thanks to organizations such as The Voice of the Martyr, I was aware of the religious intolerance against Christians before reading this book. However, to have so much information in one book was heartbreaking. Every Christian should read this book and remember to keep the persecuted church in their prayers.

I received a complimentary digital copy of this book for review purposes from BookSneeze.

Persecuted by Paul Marshall, Lela GIlbert, and Nina Shea is a thorough look at Christian persecution in various countries throughout the world. The book is written like a news report, and goes through 41 different countries that are of concern as far as persecution and religious freedom infringements go.

All I can say after reading this book is: wow. I knew that Christians were persecuted throughout the world, but this book really explained the who/what/where of persecution for me, including some places that surprised me. The countries that surprised me most were India and North Korea, along with Iran and Saudi Arabia. I wasn't even aware of how much persecution goes on in India at all. And I knew that North Korea, Iran, and Saudi Arabia had a lot of Christian persecution, but I didn't realize how restrictive and severe the persecution was.

This book was very thorough and very factual, giving a lot of statistics mixed in with specific examples of persecution in each country. But even though the text itself was very straight-forward, I found myself really thinking more about Christians in other countries and the great need they have for our prayers! I'm thinking of re-reading this book and praying specifically for Christians in each country.

One other thing I got from this book is how I really don't have an excuse for not telling others about my faith in Jesus. Here are these Christians in other countries who lose their jobs, their families, their freedom, and their lives for choosing to follow Jesus - and I'm afraid to tell someone what I believe because they might give me a funny look? It really puts things into perspective.

I definitely think this is a book that every Christian should read, and praying for Christians who are being persecuted is something we all should do more of - and this book will inspire you to do that.

Note: I received this book for free from Booksneeze in exchange for this review. This is my honest opinion.

For those of us living in North America, it's easy to forget that Jesus said that all those who choose to follow Him would be persecuted. This book is a huge wake up call to Christians that live in more peaceable countries. The struggles, trials, tortures, and persecutions that our brothers and sisters in Christ face in areas like the middle east, China, North Korea etc. are unthinkable to us here but we need to be ready, if need be, to suffer and stand firm in our faith as well. Some of the stories in this book are absolutely heartbreaking but others are inspiring. I pray that should I ever have to face such trials that I can do it with the same bravery and courage as those featured within this eye opening book. A must read for all Christians, no matter what your denomination. Our brothers and sisters in the areas discussed within this book NEED our prayers.

This book is a must read for Christians. Christians are being persecuted around the world. In Muslim countries, Christians can be killed, tortured, thrown in prison, house burned down and nothing is done about it. They don't have to have a real reason for what they do, such as the teacher touched the Qur'an with dirty hands or someone spoke blasphemy against their god so they will go out and terrorize a whole village torturing and killing many, burning down many homes and churches if there are any churches and taking whatever they want. A Christian has no say, their word means nothing.

It scares me to think that this could soon be coming to the U.S. This could be our children or grandkids that might have to suffer like these poor people. We need to be praying hard for the Christians in other parts of the world. Pray also for the Muslims especially for the women and children. At one place, 15 girls were burned up because they ran out of the school that was on fire and people threw them back in the fire because they did not have on their head covering. Or they kill their own child because the child converts to Christianity. How can someone do these things?

After reading this book, I was so thankful Sunday that I was able to attend church without being afraid of being beaten or tortured or killed. We here in the U.S. don't realize how fortune we are to have so many freedoms. Give GOD the praise that HE deserves and tell others about HIS LOVE.
