Having been released from prison, and on the run from former partners, Samuel Fortune finds himself broke and on foot in the wild country of western Indian Territory...
The Long Trail Home is the third book in the Fortunes of the Black Hills, this time following Brazos Fortune's middle son Sam. Author Stephen Bly has a wonderful tale of family reunion, liberally spiced with all the ingredients for an unforgettable read: believable characters, danger, drama, villains, romance, and sidesplitting humor.
Bly has the knack of drawing a mental picture in just a few words, and his characters are so lifelike that you almost expect to find them in history books. Hurrah for an author who has obviously been bucked off a rank horse and knows exactly what that mouthful of dirt tastes like! Sam Fortune's first encounter with a telephone had tears of laughter streaming down my cheeks. And that finale when Abby blasts him with the shotgun-novels just don't come any better than Stephen Bly's westerns.
Yes for all of the humor, there is a depth and seriousness to The Long Trail Home as Sam finds that no matter how long he runs, he can't escape God.
If you want your day brightened, this is definitely the book to do it!
