Bethany House To Honor and Trust, Bridal Veil Island Series #3

Callie DeBoyer is unsettled as she arrives at Bridal Veil Island with the Bridgeport family. She's just received a letter from her parents, missionaries in coastal Africa, stating they are in dire need of more personnel. Should Callie give up her governess job and join her parents in their important work? Is God calling her to the mission field, or does she just want to escape the emotional scars of being jilted by her former beau?

TO HONOR AND TO TRUST by Tracie Peterson and Judith Miller is an interesting inspirational historical romance set in 1913 Bridal Veil Island, Georgia. #3 in the "Bridal Veil Island" series, but can be read as a stand alone. See,"To Have and To Hold",and "To Love and Cherish". I have not read the other two in this series, but had no troubles following the storyline. Follow Callie Deboyer and Wesley Townsend on a journey of love, secrets, and betrayal. Callie, governess to the Bridgeport family on Bridal Veil Island Resort where she comes to care for Wesley Townsend, has secrets of his own. Callie is instigated in a theft ring, she considers going to join her parents on the Missionary Field in Africa. Wesley,is giving golf lessons to young Thomas Bridgeport but his secrets could destroy his and Callie's budding romance. Filled with faith, healing, forgiveness, hope, deceit, and love. The characters jump off the pages,as the storyline becomes clear. With a twist or two you will not see coming. These two ladies are superb storytellers.

To Honor and Trust is the third book in the Bridal Veil Island series, I haven’t read the first two books in this series, but each individual book was written as a stand-alone by the authors.
Callie Deboyer has been a tutor of the Bridgeport’s children for many years. She has enjoyed her time with the family where she is treated more like a family member than an employee and dearly loves the children. She wonders, though, if she should stay with the Bridgeport’s or choose to accept a teaching job offered at Hull House in Chicago, or to join her parents as a missionary in Africa.
Wesley Townsend, the son of a wealthy Massachusetts textile mill owner wants to escape the pressures placed on him by his family and society. His father has mapped out his future, a future he doesn’t desire. While hoping to distance himself from his overbearing family, Wesley volunteers to act as club golf pro in place of the missing instructor.
When Wesley and Callie meet they are immediately drawn to each other. How will Callie feel when she discovers the truth about Wesley's background? What will Wesley think when Callie is held as a suspect during a robbery investigation? Will he walk away believing her guilty, or will he fight to prove her innocent?
Fans of Tracie Peterson and Judith Miller will find much to hold their attention as they read To Honor and Trust- -from the interesting characters to the budding romance between Callie and Wes to the mystery surrounding the missing jewels, you’ll not want to put this one down.

Once you have been hurt, it can sometimes be very hard to forgive, and to trust again. Callie knows this to be very true in her own life. She was once hurt by a man she loved, and now guards her heart against that ever happening again. However, Mr. and Mrs. Bridgeport, her employers we treat her as family, are convinced to help Callie find a suitable husband. Callie is able to dodge their plans, but not without finding love for herself along the way. But should she really trust Wesley? Can she? Or will he break her heart as well? And with so many different paths and choices, is this God’s plan for her life?
This book ties together many qualities to paint a wonderful picture. Romance, mystery, humor, and history are mixed together in a charming, entertaining, and engaging way, resulting in a very enjoyable read. I was quickly pulled into the plot of this book, becoming attached to the characters, who were well written. I loved the setting of the story as well, one that is a bit more unique and original.
I really do not have any complaints whatsoever about this book, so I can honestly say that I would recommend it to you, if you are anything like me in the fact that you enjoy a good book that captures your attention until the very end.
Note: I received this book free from the publisher in exchange for my honest review. However, my opinions are my own.

Callie is the tutor for the Bridgeport family who winters on Bridal Veil Island. Wes is the black sheep of the Townsend family. The Townsend family decided to winter on the island as well. Wes, after much pressure from the family to join the family business, takes up a position as golf pro while on the island to fill his time and get away from the pressure. Callie had met him previously on a walk with the children she teaches and assumed him to be a gardener due to his knowledge of plants. She was very surprised to find him as the teacher when she takes one of her charges for their lesson.
Wes and Callie grow to love each other but Callie had been burned by a previous relationship and has a hard time with trust. Wes never corrected Callie to tell him who he really was. Will Callie ever forgive Wes when she learns the truth?
This book makes up for the last installment's lack luster storyline and characters. In this story, it is easy to get lost. You can see the train wreck of Callie finding out the truth and you just want to know what happens. You don't want to wait. You just can't help but like Callie and Wes and want the best for them. There is also a side story woven into the main story that creates a bit more interest. Overall, this is more what I expect from Peterson. I hope that we will be able to find out what happens next to Callie and Wes.

To Honor and Trust
Come home to magnificent Bridal Veil Island resort
This invitation is offered to readers in the new book, To Honor and Trust, by authors Tracie Peterson and Judith Miller.
It is a pleasure to read another book from the Bridal Veil Island series.
Bridal Veil Island, Georgia 1913
Callie Deboyer arrives at Bridal Veil Island to spend the winter working as a governess for the Bridgeport family. However, she finds she can't fully enjoy the beautiful resort because questions about her future weigh heavily on her mind: Should she continue in this job she enjoys, or is God calling her to join her parents in their missionary work?
When she enrolls young Thomas Bridgeport in golf lessons, Callie meets instructor Wesley Townsend, who urges Callie to take lessons, as well. During their time together, Callie comes to care for Wes--until she discovers that he's been hiding something very important from her.
Then expensive pieces go missing from various homes around the island, and suspicion is aimed in Callie's direction. Callie wonders if this is a sign she should leave it all behind and join her parents in Africa. Considering Wesley's deceit, will he ever be a man Callie can honor and trust for the rest of her life?
The atmosphere of this book provides a good escape and reminds me of an era when wealthy families often escaped to warmer climates. Callie's story involves her devotion to the Bridgeport family as their governess and her character inspires the high standards she has set for herself while accepting almost everyone she meets. After getting to know Wes, she begins to have a little bit of hope for her future.
There are episodes of suspense within the story, including a jewel thief, and when little Daisy is bitten by a dangerous spider.
The one thought I found as I read this book is how much to reveal when telling the the truth. I imagine most of us have told the truth, but maybe not told all of the information we know because we felt it might cause hurt feelings. This book is a good example of how to handle what, when and how to share our thoughts and build a trusting relationship with someone.

This is a very nice read! I haven't had the chance to read the others in this series but I intend to soon!
I admit that it did take me a little bit to get into this book, but once I did I began to thoroughly enjoy it.
Callie is a wonderful character, full of richness and emotion. Though she is governess to the Bridgeport family, she is cared for as though she is a member of that very family. She's got the weight of the world on her shoulders with many decisions pestering her. I liked her sweetness and also her fire.
Wesley Townsend is just trying to escape but has arrived on the island with those who won't let him. He's a great character with wonderful depth.
When the two meet, a mystery begins. I liked their relationship, but I felt a little was missing. They liked each other but they didn't seem to be drawn to each other. There weren't sparks... or fireworks, emotionally. I like relationships with fire. Though that's just me, so please don't let this stop you from reading this book.
I went into the book expecting a romance, but didn't anticipate the mysteries that would develop. It was a good blend.
I recommend this book to anyone who likes historical romance books.

A fascinating historical romantic tale!
I regret to say I have not a chance to read the previous two books in this series. I do not think that took anything away from To Honor and Trust, I found it can easily be read as a stand-alone. ;) That being said, I overall thought the book was a decent read. Despite two authors, the writing flows and centers in the heads of Wes and Callie.
Moving forward, it took me several chapters to really get into this one. It seemed slow at the start but it did pick up around the middle and hooked me in until the last page. I liked the mystery and intrigue with the robberies and the twist at the end.
Callie is an interesting character. Her faith in God is strong, as she prays over every thing, big or small. She loves her charges, Thomas, Daisy, and Lottie and works as their tutor. I admired her good nature towards them and applauded her for putting Mr. Perriman in his place. (Those who have read the book will understand what I mean. ;D )
While this book is not a favorite, it still was a nice little read. Those who have read Love Finds You on Mackinac Island will like this one.
I received this book from Bethany House in return for an honest review of my opinions, thanks!

Tracie Peterson And Judith Miller in their new book, "To Honor and Trust" Book Three in the Bridal Veil Island series published by Bethany House brings us to Georgia in 1913.
From the back cover: Come home to magnificent Bridal Veil Island resort
Callie DeBoyer arrives at Bridal Veil Island to spend the winter working as a governess for the Bridgeport family. However, she finds she can't fully enjoy the beautiful resort because questions about her future weigh heavily on her mind. Should she continue in this job she enjoys, or is God calling her to join her parents in their missionary work?

Callie wonders if this is a sign she should leave it all behind and join her parents in Africa. Considering Wesley's deceit. will he ever be a man Callie can honor and trust for the rest of her life?
No doubt about it I like this series and I am sorry to see it end with this book. I wish there was such a place as Bridal Veil Island because it seems like such a wonderful place to visit, hang out and relax. Then we have these wonderful relationships where it is not easy between the couple due to various circumstances; in this book it is issues of deceit and trust that separate them. And then, of course, there are the robberies. "To Honor and Trust" is a marvelous love story all wrapped up in an adventure. Ms. Peterson and Ms. Miller really know how to weave a story that entertains and brings you history as well. Tracie Peterson And Judith Miller have written a well done novel that I recommend highly.

Tracie Peterson is an amazing author, as is Judith Smith. On their own. Being the sole authors of their books, they do a much better job of creating a story than what was found in this book. I think that's what disappointed me. I was expecting greatness, based on their individual successes and instead found something good.
Of course, that means it's still a good read, but don't expect the same quality from their previous books to be in this one. For example, the romance between the two main characters was so-so. There seemed to be something lacking - passion maybe - emotional passion. That being said, it is so nice that there are quality Christian authors out there (like the above referenced ladies!) who take the time to write clean stories! It's appreciated. Ok, back to the review.
PROS:
Callie is a strong, intelligent Godly woman who is responsible for the education of her upper class charges.
Wes is a Godly man with the desire to do what's right, in spite of what society says or thinks. (Including his family.)
CONS:
At times, the story line seems disjointed. I attribute this to there being two authors. For the most part it flowed nicely, but there were times it seemed, well, lacking.
The negativity out of the way, I have to say that it was an entertaining story and it did transport me to Bridal Veil Island. At times, it made me wish I could be there with them partaking of the beach. ;)
Bottom line: Would I recommend this book to a friend? Definitely. Would I rave about it? Definitely not. But all in all, it was a pleasant read.

Not having read the first two books in the series, I was surprised at how easily I slipped into the storyline and characters. I enjoyed watching the romance between Wes and Callie take shape almost as much as her putting other suitors in their place!
When specific characters were introduced, there was no question as to what part they would have in the book or their character's character. This took away from the mystery of it all. As a historical fiction novel, other than knowing it was in the early 1900s, I never felt that I was gleaning any historical facts or details about this time period.
Overall, I enjoyed the book. Yet, the predictable storyline and characters took away some of the novelty of the story.

This is not my first book by Tracie Peterson or Judith Miller, but it is the first of this series. I enjoyed watching the characters develop. It was refreshing to find a story set in high society where the main characters were searching for more meaning in life than is often portrayed in wealthy circles. Both Callie and Wesley were believable, even though theirs was not a whirlwind romance with many twists and setbacks. Their questions had more to do with where they belonged in life than who they belonged with, and in finding the answer to the first question, they also discovered the answer to the second.
I have enjoyed the stories and life lessons in every book I have read from these two authors, whether individual or as a team.

To story takes place in 1913 on Bridal Veil Island and is the story of a young governess, who has been hurt by a past fiance. She meets a man who she believes can once again win her heart and let her trust, only to find that there are things about his life she didn't know. She once again feels betrayed and wonders where the future will take her. Scripture is woven through this story and the authors do a wonderful job pulling you into the story. I love historical Christian fiction and this book held me captive. I finished it in less than two days and wanted to continue on with the characters-the trait of good story tellers. I will look for other books by these authors and recommend this to my friends. I received this book free from Bethany House for my honest review and did not receive any compensation.

I genuinely loved this book, and can truthfully say I did not want the story to end! This historical romance came alive for me, and the characters were very believable. With a touch of suspense and enough action to move the plot forward, the story was never dull. Being very familiar with the coast of Georgia, I feel that Judith Miller and Tracie Peterson did an excellent job describing the area. I highly recommend TO HONOR AND TRUST, and happily give it 5 stars!!

Our book review today is of a story set in 1913 on Bridal Veil Island, Georgia, the winter retreat of the prosperous, privileged, and/or hopefully prosperous. It's the place where debutantes "come out," formal and costume parties abound, and financial conversations float around businessmen at every occasion.
Callie Deboyer's parents are gone on a mission to Africa, and she accepted the position of tutor to family friends Luther and Eunice Bridgeport's three children. Callie sincerely hopes the new nanny, Mrs. Murphy, will be all the Bridgeports want and need for the youngsters. Between caring for the children before the new nanny arrived, her tutoring duties, and Mrs. Bridgeport's desire for Callie to be a part of their family, attending social functions with them, she is far busier than she desires.
Mrs. Bridgeport has decided Callie needs to get over a two-timing former fiance' by finding a new one. Callie doesn't want to offend her friend and employer, but she has sworn off men. She attends the masquerade, bridge meets, and formal dinners with the Bridgeports, but with the greatest reluctance.
Wesley Townsend, on the other hand, would love to have something to do other than following his parents, particularly his father, to social events. Wesley's father wants him to enter the family business to manage one of their plants, like his brothers do. They'd even like for him to marry one of the other businessmen's daughters to cement loans to build the business.
Granted, Wesley doesn't want to practice his physician career any more. But he most certainly doesn't want to manage one of his father's plants. He volunteers to replace the island's missing golf pro. It's there that he meets Callie as she brings the Bridgeport's son for lessons.
Things get awkward when the tennis pro decides Callie is fair game, things begin disappearing from everyone's cottage except the Bridgeports, and Wesley begins teaching the children about island flora and fauna.

Women who love a sweet, tender romance will enjoy Peterson and Miller's To Honor and Trust. Set one hundred years ago on a resort island for the rich and famous, the story follows Callie Deboyer, tutor to the children of a wealthy family. Callie is a kindhearted character who's a pleasure to spend time with, as is Wesley, the hero who comes from an overbearing family.
One thing I particularly enjoyed was the description as the characters explored the island. At times I felt I could see the greenery and the forest path, smell the earth and feel the dampness in the air.
While this is the last book in the series, readers will have no trouble following the story if they haven't read the other two. It does read as a stand-alone novel and hearkens back to a simple, more innocent time.

To Honor and Trust is set on Bridal Veil Island resort during 1913, this novel shows the blurring of social class lines and how those that were not happy living as ‘society’ expected fared. Whether it was following in your father’s footsteps… or living your live of nothing after having plenty… there is a character in this book that will tug at your dreams and remembrances.
For Callie, her place in the world is as a family tutor for a wealthy family that knew her when she had plenty and traveled in their circle.
For Wes, he is trying to avoid committing to join his families company and being stuck in a factory for the rest of his days.
How will God bring these two together, and what is His purpose for their lives? That is the question that makes this novel a great read! I love you Judy and Tracie bring out the faith aspect of their characters’ lives. Showing how God does apply to everyday life and works towards His ends. This book came across like it was someones personal testimony… with a little intrigue with the thefts thrown in for good measure. I will certainly be rereading this one, and adding to my gift list when picking books for presents {yup, it was that good!}. I am also going back and reading the others in this series. Not realizing it was part of a series while reading it, I can't what to see what the other chapters hold!

I think this is my favourite book in the Bridal Veil Island series but having said that, it reads beautifully as a standalone. These authors know how to seep a story in history so effectively that the reader feels she's traveled back in time. It is so true to life right down to the dialogue. I love that!
I really connected with Callie's dilemma -- she has a multitude of choices available to her, but which one is the right one? She wants to follow God's call for her life, but she doesn't feel God is making her decisions easy. In fact, He seems to be silent on the subject. I've felt like that so many times in my life. Impatiently yearning for a burning bush answer instead of waiting on God's timing to reveal Himself.
As if that isn't enough, the authors throw in handsome and attentive Wesley Townsend just to confuse things even more. And a mystery that threatens to steal away all of Callie's choices. A compelling, thought-provoking read that will keep you turning pages right until the very end.
I'd like to thank Bethany House Publishers for sending me a complimentary copy of this book.
