AFellowCanuckEnglehart, OntarioAge: 25-34Gender: male5 Stars Out Of 5Fantastic!April 21, 2014AFellowCanuckEnglehart, OntarioAge: 25-34Gender: maleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 4Can I say what a thrilling book this was? Well, I'm saying it alright, because it was absolutely amazing!
Patrick W. Carr, definitely hit the ball on the absolutely epic conclusion of the Staff and The Sword Series. Comparing it back to the first book, The Hero's lot, Patrick still has the amazing writing ability that he's carried though out the books. The detail and everything else has been phenomenal and especial with the last book, there's no less of it! The Character's and everything else I just love about the book, taking the time for all the little details that make this such an amazing book.
Remembering how the Characters were in the first book, and seeing how they are no, you can definitely tell that they've been on a grand adventure. This is a great and well written book, all of the different elects from Fantasy/Adventure/Action have been combined to create an amazing tale with a great meaning behind the story. Even when I had put this book down a few times, I wanted to pick it back up and finish the story right away and see what lied ahead for the characters. It made me at least del like I was part of the book, imagining everything happened like it was before my very eyes.
I give this book a rating of 4 out of 5 stars

Laura of Harvest Lane CottageCarthage, MOAge: 55-65Gender: Female5 Stars Out Of 5I need 6 stars! Stuff of legends!April 17, 2014Laura of Harvest Lane CottageCarthage, MOAge: 55-65Gender: FemaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5My thoughts:
He's done it again! I sat down to read at around seven o'clock Saturday evening. I forced myself to stop reading at eleven o'clock after reading ten chapters! He's put a compulsion on me to read! You know you're reading a master's tale when you find yourself wanting to go back and read the series from the beginning to better understand how all the pieces fit together.
As I was reading this book, I must admit that I savored it. I cannot tell you how many times I said to my family, "This guy's a math teacher! How does he write like this?" My daughter's reading the book right now. I can hardly get her to do anything else! I completely understand. When I read this book, my mind traveled to Illustra. I not only read it, I could see it, I was in it.
If you like fantasy fiction, this is the stuff of legends. ~grin~ My thoughts went to J. R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis. If you've not read A Cast of Stones, start there. If you have, you already want this book. The Hero's Lot is second in the Staff and the Sword Series by Patrick Carr. A Draw of Kings is the third in the Staff and the Sword Series by Patrick Carr.

knitwriteloveAge: 18-24Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Closing the Cover on the AdventureApril 16, 2014knitwriteloveAge: 18-24Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I enjoyed this novel so very much, and I believe it is the best in the entire trilogy. Mr. Carr's writing is more polished, more vivid, more captivating. The people and places (and creatures) Errol and company encountered were so alive in my mind that I stayed up past midnight several nights in a row because I couldn't pull myself from the pages.
My only regret when I closed the cover on the final page was that the adventure was over. I already miss the feeling of anticipation that I enjoyed when picking up one of the books for the first time and going on those new adventures. As with the first two, this wonderful conclusion of the tale kept me guessing to the very end.
I hope Mr. Carr keeps writing fantasy, as this trilogy is one of the best I have ever read in the genre. They will always hold a very special place on my bookshelves.

Liz RHartselle, AlAge: Under 18Gender: Female5 Stars Out Of 5April 6, 2014Liz RHartselle, AlAge: Under 18Gender: FemalePatrick Carr does not disappoint with his thrilling conclusion the The Staff and Sword series! After returning from his mission to Merakh, Errol Stone finds the kingdom worse off than when he left, with Duke Weir is sitting on the throne and enemies threatening on all fronts.
I have been a fan of Errol's since he started the series in the bottom of an ale barrel and it has been wonderful seeing how far he has risen and how much he has grown. Carr has also written a fantastic group of supporting characters whose storylines all converge in this thrilling conclusion.
The pace was much quicker than the first two novels and the story starts off with a bang. The entire series has been very large scale but the author does a good job of not letting the reader get lost. One of my only complaints for this book and the other two in the series was that a glossary and/or map would have been appreciated at times. Sometimes I had trouble keeping the different countries straight. This was minor however and did not distract from my enjoyment of the story.
I would highly recommend this entire series and cannot wait to see what Carr has in store next!

JaelTXAge: 35-44Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Love this trilogy!March 17, 2014JaelTXAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5How do you share your thoughts on the end of a story that has been building since book one, and without giving anything away?
Errol Stone's journey continues. The back of the cover makes you think that him being imprisoned and the attempt to free him would be the story we are about to read. Oh no. Don't let that fool you. That's only the beginning!
Then the rest unfolds as Errol and his companions must split up to prepare to fight the final battle with odds seemingly insurmountable.
The story is huge, complex, and at times, I was slightly confused, but I so wanted to know who would live and who would die. Would it be Liam or Errol?
The characters deepened in many ways, except for Liam. I got a little annoyed with him. He was always perfect and beautiful, and all the characters practically swooned in his presence. But then I tend to go for the underdog.
As the ending came to a close, it should have felt perfect, but it didn't for me. I felt set up, knowing that I was being set up to "feel" one way, when I knew the truth, yet hoped, yet didn't want to hope. It is hard to explain. Yet with the final explanation with the remaining characters, the conclusion slid into place for a bittersweet ending that will have me reflecting on Errol's story for a while.
That said, I love this series and feel that these characters and their story will remain with me for the rest of my life.
Highly recommended!
