For four years Felicia Murdock has believed that God has ordained her to be Reverend Frasers' wife. With that goal in mind she sets about to become the perfect ministers wife changing everything about her from her personality to her wardrobe. However when the good Reverend weds another and her mother invites Lord Grayson Sumner to escort Felicia to an event, Felicia begins to wonder if God doesn't have another path for her life.

With a horrifying past that he feels no woman should have to endure, Grayson Sumner, Lord Sefton, has sworn off women. That is until he meets Felicia. With her endless energy and adventurous spirit, Grayson begins to feel the ice that has encased his heart begin to thaw and feelings that he thought he buried long ago start to resurface.

Truth be told, I wasn't really impressed by Grayson when we read about him in the authors previous books but I actually enjoyed the character in this book. The backstory and the strengths and weakness that the author choose to for him worked extremely well. He turned out to be quite the unexpected hero.

I thought that Felicia and Grayson worked well together. They were believable as a couple and it was amusing to read about them. I also enjoyed the scenes with Grayson's adopted daughter Ming. Being three years old, I thought her character was written as a real three year old would be, which made the scenes she was in very authentic.

The story overall was well written and great fun to read. There were many place that I found myself laughing out loud. But I also found a couple of places in the story that were a little over the top. The social issue that the author chose to include in her story was something I have not read in too much Christian fiction. The author was both honest and real about the effects that it had on the people of the time.

This author has quickly become one of my favorites. She has a great flair for the dramatic which is can be a great change of pace. If you like historical fiction I believe that you would enjoy this book.

I have so enjoyed this series of books from Jen Turano. They are light and fun and whimsical and such a treat after all the terrible news in the real world. Felicia, the main character in this story, has disguised her true self in order to appeal to a man she was never meant for nor ever really loved. Ive known this girl, or at least a version of this girl, in some of my friends and can certainly see in myself where I have tried to be or thought I should be someone I am not in order to fit in, or be cared for or just to protect myself though certainly not in the degree of dear Miss Murdock. This story does stand on its own, but truly the rest of the series is so fun it would be a pity not to read them all!

This book is part of a series. You do not have to read the others but I would recommend it as they are all similar. The characters are enjoyable! I liked how the conversations were written, they flowed well and all made sense! I gave this book 5/5 stars. The setting is so well written! I loved how the descriptions were so simple yet you really could see the buildings and outdoors. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys historical Christian fiction and those who enjoy series by the same authors.

I would like to thank the publisher for the copy of this book I enjoyed reading. I gave an honest review based on my opinion of what I read.

This review was written for A Talent For Trouble - eBook.
All the other reviewers on my blog were gaga over Jen Turano's writing. Felicia and Grayson are adorable together. Quirky lovable characters, quick-paced storyline, wonderful love story--you'll be thumbing through this story as fast as you can read it just to find out what happens next! You'l be holding your breath as you wonder if the characters will be able to get in and out of the opium dens, they are investigating, okay. Highly recommend! My only complaint is that in paperback the print is rather light. I'd recommend ebook version if you have eye problems.
