Steve Berger in his new book, “Between Heaven And Earth” published by Bethany House Publishers gives us a Finding Hope, Courage, and Passion Through a Fresh Vision of Heaven.
From the Back Cover: Be Transformed by a Glimpse of Paradise
· What will heaven be like? What will we do? Who will we see?
· How can I become more excited about heaven as my true home?
· Is it possible that knowing more about heaven will result in greater joy and purpose in my daily life?
It’s not easy separating fact from fiction when it comes to heaven, nor is it always easy to see how the afterlife can affect our lives today. After a car accident caused his nineteen-year-old son to unexpectedly enter heaven, Pastor Steve Berger chose to reject despair and commit himself to carefully studying his son’s new, eternal home. He had no idea how much there was to learn, and his life hasn’t been the same since. This biblical and deeply personal study of heaven will give you hope for the future.
But more than that, it will show you what it means to live today in light of the reality of heaven. If your view of heaven isn’t life-changing, it needs to be adjusted. Let Pastor Berger’s exploration of eternity fill you with overflowing hope, courage, and purpose.
Here is a question for you: does talking about Heaven help to get you into Heaven? The only way to get to Heaven is to accept Jesus as Lord & Savior and then you get to go. So why talk about Heaven? First off it motivates you. It gives you a destination. You know at some point you will be going to Heaven. That is exciting. When people get ready for a trip they plan what they are going to pack and put their home in order so they do not have a mess to return to. That is what Pastor Berger is trying to get us to see in his book. Having Heaven as our destination motivates us with excitement and moves us to get here in order by cleaning up our mess and then getting others to come with us. It helps to be reminded of what our new home will look like and what Jesus has prepared for us. I think everyone should read this book and then give it as a gift to others to motivate them as well.

Sometimes it is hard to remember that as followers of Jesus, earth is not our home and we wonder what heaven will be like. Steve Berger answers many of those questions about our heavenly home in his new book, "Between Heaven and Earth".
Pastor Berger's teenage son was killed in a one-car accident. That incident made the author question what heaven was really all about and what his son was experiencing there.
This book reminds us that heaven is a glorious place... perfect... filled with joy. There is no sadness, want, or even boredom there. But the book also warns that heaven isn't inevitable for everyone, and that each of us must believe and accept Jesus as our Savior. We can't get there because we are a "good" person and have done a bunch of good stuff during our lives. (Bunny trail: I heard Chuck Swindoll once say that if you believe that you earn heaven by your deeds, when will you know that you've done enough?)
I appreciated that Pastor Berger even wrote a little about pets in heaven. He has a perspective different from what I was taught and I hope he's right.
I for one am looking forward to finding out for myself.

I received Between Heaven and Earth from Bethany House for free, in return for my opinion on this book.
Between Heaven and Earth is written by Steve Berger and Published by Bethany House.
My overall thoughts, I actually really enjoyed reading this book and proved to be very insightful and beautifully written. What I really loved about this book is the it is written around personal stories.
It is not written as your typical self-help christian books. I honestly loved how this book is portrayed to christian readers. The book mainly is a study and a reference of people in the bible. This is not written on opinions, but actually around the bible as the main focal points. The author is simply using real life examples and situations to inspire people. I have read books that are more geared towards self-help by popular authors, and to be honest I don't like those kinds of books. This book is NOT one of these, its acutally not even focused on you, but by people surrounded around you and how you can make a difference.
This book is heavily based on scriptures and bibical people, but I find the author is very accurate in this book on what the bible teaches and it lines up perfectly. What I was most surprized by, the fact that every chapter was challenging to the reader. From start to finish, each chapter flowed to the next flawlessly and was executed very well.
The only downside to this book, would be the small margine of audience. This book is definately meant for christians because you cannot win people to christ, unless you are following him first. In my honest oppionion, this book would not be of interest to someone who is not interested in christanity to begin with. In my honest oppinion, I think this book would not appeal to just anyone in general.
This book also had quite a surprize for me after just reading the back cover. I was expecting the book to be more about his son and his family life after the tragic accident. It started out that way, but turned into a new direction and a new purpose later in the book.
Between Heaven and Earth was written with so much depth and passion that I would recommend this book. I would also recommend this book as a personal study guide for those who are seeking more out of their christian walk of faith. I think this book would be a pefect fit for an Adult Sunday School Class or Teenage Youth Group Class. What I really like about this book, its not just another book to keep on your bookshelf. This is a kind of book that you can keep around and use as you study the bible and scriptures.
I enjoyed reading this book and it is definately a keeper.

“Between Heaven and Earth” by Steve Berger is one of those books that is chalked full of truth and inspiration IF you are at that place in life. I suppose I’m not. I didn’t find it that inspiring to be honest. But I truly believe in the right hands this little book has the ability to change a person. Why? Because it tells the truth. The world is passing and only a mind stuck on Christ and the next world will meet success – real success. Mr. Berger tells of the tragedy of losing his 19 yr old son in a car accident and how it propelled him to re-look into what’s important.
This book has a lot of quotes from other people which is a sign of great research but I found myself skimming a lot which doesn’t speak well for the author’s ability to hold my attention. I hate to say that because I think someone out there NEEDS to read this book. Would I recommend it? I suppose – if you need a refresher on what Christianity has that no other religion has and the hope that awaits us on the other side.
At the end of the day, you might be better off reading one of the many books the author quoted than reading this book. Unless, I suppose, you want the condensed version of all those other books. In that case, this one’s for you.
BTW, I got this book free in exchange for an honest review.

heaven and earth review

Between Heaven and Earth by Steve Berger is a thought provoking small book providing insight on preparing oneself for a life in heaven. Steve as a pastor has undoubtedly had his thoughts firmly placed on spending his eternity in heaven but the untimely death of his 19 year old son in a car accident certainly increased his thoughts on this subject. Steve’s book provides a simple to understand Bible based manual on preparing for eternal life in heaven. He provides scriptural background for all of his thoughts and preparations. Though Steve certainly discusses the grief and sadness that the death of his son, Josiah, brought into his life he chose not to dwell upon his death but rather to focus on the beauty of his son’s certain home in heaven with his eternal father. Steve’s life and that of his family changed forever when Josiah died but rather than despair over what he had lost Steve has made to choice to work to make sure of those around him have the opportunity for this same salvation.
Steve further includes in the book that if you are planning for life in heaven that it should be self evident to anyone who just watches you. That you should have your hand in the harvest of souls for Christ. He then provides the plan for helping in Christ’s soul harvest. In the book he quotes James where it is stated that faith without works is dead and Steve states that many want their faith to get them into heaven but that Christians should want to take many with them when they go.
I enjoyed this book and it certainly makes the reader contemplate on whether they could be doing more to insure that the many mansions the Jesus has prepared for us are full.

This book was written for those who are seeking a solid biblical understanding of Heaven, and the author’s goal is that heavenly perspective will give the reader a strong sense of earthly purpose. Author Steven Berger is careful to avoid areas of doctrinal disagreement while presenting theologically sound interpretations of scriptures regarding Heaven. The author’s passion for the subject comes through clearly, but the tone of the book is primarily didactic- that is, the teaching borders on repetitious at times. For example, every quoted Scripture or scriptural example (and there are many) is followed by a very thorough and exhaustive explanation- regardless of how straightforward the Scripture might be. The notable exception to this tone is when the author shares about the loss of his son. Here, he very personally and tangibly conveys the true comfort and hope he has found in his pursuit of a deeper understanding of Heaven.
My sense of the author is that he is an excellent teacher and someone with whom you could enjoy a deep, intellectual biblical discussion - but somehow I felt I came away from the book with more “head knowledge” as opposed to deeper passion. In trying to put my finger on why this was, I can only conclude that while there is absolutely nothing wrong with pressing on in our faith and striving to be “heaven-minded”, this comes not through increased diligence and discipline so much as it does through loving Jesus more. In other words, I felt as if the burden was on me to be a better Christian: to pray more, to read the Word more, to seek more of the Holy Spirit and to repent more – all good and fine- but not necessarily passion producing.
To bring balance to what may sound like a less than favorable review, I want to point out that this book would be an excellent study for those seeking to deepen their understanding of what the Bible says about Heaven. If you consider yourself a new believer or a “seeker” I think this book would be particularly helpful, as it is geared towards those who either haven’t thought much about Heaven or who wonder what it’s supposed to be like. The author’s exegetic approach will also appeal to those who prefer logic to emotion. Finally, I believe that because of the author’s strength as a teacher, he does succeed at investing the reader with a stronger sense of earthly purpose.

Pastor Steve Berger really awakens the reader to the fact that we need to get off our duffs and start Harvesting. It is of the utmost importance that we don’t sit idly by and let others in the church do all the work. We have an important part to play too. Our focus should be on Heaven and not on things of this world.
I like how the author not only shared scripture but went on to tell us exactly what the scripture meant, often giving us the Greek meaning so the scripture would be crystal clear to us.
I shared with a lady at Bible study how excited I am about Heaven and even more so after reading this book. I am ready to harvest!
I highly recommend this wonderful book to everyone. It gives us joy, hope, and inspiration to make a change in our lives.
When our Pastor told us that he was starting a series on Heaven my eyes lit up and I thought oh boy I can’t wait. In the meantime I saw this book Between Heaven And Earth on LibraryThing and after reading what it was about I knew I wanted to try to win this ARC. Imagine my surprise when I did win a copy of it. A coincidence? I think not!
Thank you Bethany House Publishers and author Steve Berger for allowing me to read and review this great book. The opinions expressed are mine alone.
