Zondervan What's So Amazing About Grace?

Grace is the church's great distinctive. It's the one thing the world cannot duplicate, and the one thing it craves above all else for only grace can bring hope and transformation to a jaded world.

In What's So Amazing About Grace?, award-winning author Philip Yancey explores grace at street level. What is grace? If grace is God's love for the undeserving, then what does it look like in action? If Christians are its sole dispensers, how are we doing at lavishing grace on a world that knows far more of cruelty and unforgiveness than it does of mercy? In his most personal and provocative book ever, Yancey offers compelling, true portraits of grace's life-changing power. He searches for its presence in his own life and in the church. He challenges us to become living answers to a world that desperately wants to know What's So Amazing About Grace?

Winner of the Gold Medallion Book Award, the Christian Book of the Year Award, and the Retailers Choice Award.

Phillip Yancey engages the reader in an overwhelming and compelling experience into God's Grace. He adds a three-dimensional landscape view, "in living color," into the huge subject of unconditional love as expressed through Jesus Christ. He also appeals to the reader for an in-depth, appreciation of the personal importance of forgiveness in everyones life.

This is the most wonderful book that I have ever read. If you have never read the bible then this book in my opinion portrays the true Jesus Christ. Every one should own a copy of this book. I plan to purchase more of them to give to friends who are confused about Jesus Christ, Faith and the Church. If we all showed the Grace the book speaks of we would truly have heaven on earth not the mess we have today.

This is a wonderful book. My church is using it as a book study. The first two pages offer a shocking story about grace, but the following chapters are very "normal" stories about finding grace or non-grace in the world. Being a formerly abused and now divorced single mother, this book has lead to some wonderful conversations in our book group about grace and the unfortunate lack of it at times within the Church. It offers many examples of how we as Christians are called to not only experience grace, but be grace givers.

After reading just the starting chapters of this book and the Study Guide, I have become more aware of people in this hurting world and their need for God's acceptance and love. We often are so critical of even other Christians who we think don't measure up. This book will help you extend God's grace to others.

The author's simple and direct application is really a great read. There are larger volumes that are more theological in nature but none more practical!

I am using this book as part of a small group study. You don't need to be in a study to read this book. It is excellent! I am really enjoying it. Amazing stories about people that need grace or give unconditional grace.

My husband and I are teaching a 10-week series using the Grace book and DVD for our adult Sunday School class. Class participation as well as attendance have increased. I believe it is due directly to the poignant video sessions and to the questions that challenge participants rather than spoon feed them.

During Lent my church is studying What's So Amazing About Grace. We do two chapters every week. So, I have not read the whole book as yet. Mr. Yancey does explain very well what "Grace" is---a free gift from God that is not deserved or earned. He points out why all people need God's grace.

This is a teriffic book that I would highly recommend to anyone. Philip Yancey deals with the tough issues and difficult questions in our fallen world, and shows how only God's grace provides real answers. This book is thought-provoking and challenging---buy it, read it, and ask the Lord to help you apply its lessons to your life!!

In short, this book changed my life. I was a relatively new pastor when I first read this book and I couldn't finish it. I spent so much time praying, weeping, and struggling with the challenges Yancey was presenting. After reading it, I vowed to God that our church would be a church where grace was proclaimed - where the most sinful elements of our world would find welcome as Jesus welcomed such people - to give to others the grace we all desire from God. I learned how much I hated grace and had to confess it. God has worked a miracle in my life thanks to His servant here.

Yancey writes about what I have thought for so long. This has helped me to clarify and solidify my previously held beliefs. His writing helps me to see things clearly, without the lenses and filters that the church, and society has for so long imposed on us.
