Tyndale House Living Bible, hardcover
The Living Bible is a "thought-for-thought" version as opposed to a word-for-word translation. "Paraphrase" is a restatement of an author's thoughts using different words than he did. This book is a paraphrase of both the Old Testament and New Testament. Its purpose, according to the editors, is to say as exactly as possible what the writers of the Scriptures meant, and to say it simply, expanding where necessary for a clear understanding by the modern reader.

I maturely would not recommend this type bible to a young convert. I have read through the bible in several translations and this bible has some major errors in thought for a few passages. I like it because I listen to the Holy Spirit when it comes to verifying passages of scripture as I read this paraphrase. You should be experienced to read this bible. It is to me a good reading and backup translation.

I started reading this Bible in 1974, I got it as a gift from the youth group I was in. I have read this Bible 3 times and have enjoyed each and every time. I had new experiences with God every time. However my house was in a fire and I lost everything, including the pajamas I was wearing. After the initial shock of it all and with God's help I am back to getting my life together. I have been looking to replace my Bible and I really liked the one I had and to my suprise I can still replace something that I got over 35 years ago. I ordered this right away and I can't wait to receive my new Bible. I will miss my old one and the memories. But I will now have a new one to make new memories. Thank-you so very much for having this wonderful Bible in your store.

We have a morning devotion every Thursday morning at our place of employment. I bought 2 of these Living bibles for new Christians, and they love them, easy to read, easy to find scripture passages. This was our first Bible when we got saved in 1977.

As a child, I read The Living Letters (the epistles) before the entire New Testament was done.As a grandmother, I want to share Bible stories with my grandchidren. Remembering my own experience with the paraphrase, I ordered one to read to them, and anticipate they may each want one of their own.I memorized the King James version as a child and study it still today, but "Tell Me The Stories of Jesus" in the Living Bible.

This Bible gets people reading about God for the very first time. It "gets their foot into the door" and allows the Holy Spirit to work thru it. They'll want to grow in the Word by reading another version. I know - it's happened to me and a couple friends of mine. Now we're reading other versions. But, I refer back to my beloved The Living Bible at times for clarity, and to be inspired by the areas in it that I had highlighted. While Jesus was on earth, He spoke in a manner in which the people could understand. I think this version does the same. And I'm proof that it is a tool for the Holy Spirit to change a life.

This was the first bible I read and for a beginner in Christ I would recommend it. Remember it is a paraphrase so this is not a very accurate translation if you Want accuracy with modern writing go for the NASB.

I know that pure theologically there might be some objections but the advantages are very very high. Get one while you can. I use it for preaching and making the message clearer. People walk up and say:"I really liked it when you read it from that other translation"
