Educators Publishing Service Vocabulary from Classical Roots Book A (Grade 7)

This five-book series teaches junior and senior high school students words derived from the most important Greek and Latin roots. Every lesson introduces up to fifteen words derived from two or more classical roots. A dictionary-like format provides all the necessary information, including related forms of the word and sentences illustrating each word's correct usage. Special sections called "Nota Bene" provide information about etymologies and words that might be confused.

Drawings, illustrative sentences, and challenging exercises help students master the vocabulary they need to read works of literature and prepare for SAT's. Exercises based on synonyms, antonyms, analogies, vocabulary in context, and sentence completions not only test students' mastery of definitions but also develop their familiarity with the format of comparable items on standardized tests. Other exercises offer practice in recognizing correct usage. Books D and E also contain an exercise that tests vocabulary in context for each lesson. Paperback, 101 pages.

An basic understanding of Greek and Latin before the high school years should make biology a bit easier for my kids. It will also help them on the SAT. I am pleasantly surprised; they really enjoy learning these new words.

The lessons are well laid out and the roots are pertinent to every day words. I was expecting something antiquated, but this is really a fantastic step after a regular spelling program. My daughter is enjoying it as well and recognizing roots in much of her reading.

This is an easy curriculum for learning root words. And not a lot of planning on the parents part. We are currently using Book 6 and are loving it. My children {and myself} are gaining a greater understanding to the English language as well as the other languages that helped to form it.

Excellent book! Very well organized and easy to follow. My son says English makes more sense and spelling is easier now that he knows the roots.
