Educators Publishing Service Vocabulary from Classical Roots Book B (Grade 8)
Vocabulary from Classical Roots teaches junior and senior high school students words derived from the most important Greek and Latin roots. Each lesson introduces up to fifteen words derived from two or more classical roots. A dictionary-like format provides all the necessary information, including related forms of the word and sentences illustrating each word's correct usage.
Challenging exercises help students master the vocabulary they need to read works of literature and prepare for SATs. Exercises based on synonyms, antonyms, analogies, contextual vocabulary and sentence completions not only test students' mastery of definitions but also develop their familiarity with the format of comparable items. This book will definitely improve your student's vocabulary and sentence variety. However, I would highly recommend buying the teacher's guide with this book. The teacher's guide offers a variety of activities to encourage vocabulary usage and explains many of the vocabulary words and activities in the student book.

This program was to difficult for me to even teach it. I looked over it so many times and understood it, but thought it was extremely difficult to teach much less help my son understand. I let him look it over. You could definitely understand the concepts, but we wanted something that builds on a word and this seemed to complicated.

Having a background in Greek and Latin roots is valuable for SAT/ACT as well as for future academic success. This book is simple and straightforward. It is arranged in related groups to relate the roots to each other. It's a quick addition to our curriculum that makes a big impact.

As a homeschooling mother of nine I highly recommend this course for anyone preparing their children for mastery of the English language. My eldest son who is a sophomore in college says it has helped him tremendously to learn the root meanings of English words. All my children complete books A-E in high school level studies.
