I throughly enjoyed this book, and would recommend it. I felt that Jack did a great job of backing up his case, and freeing us to accept the gifts of Holy Spirit as given us by God, for his glory. It is evident that Jack, cares a great deal for the Lord, and this book helped me see God in a more relationship oriented manner.Good guidelines for the practice of the use of the Gifts, and how to make sure they are used in accordance with the will of God.Only bad part is that I feel that Jack defended himself against personal attacks in this book, by a particular individual. I felt that shouldn't have been included in the book by the editor.Overall this is a great book, that will either help bring new understanding into the gifts of the spirit.

Jack Deere, author of "Surprised by the Voice of God" knows God. I know this because Deere's words are the words I would use if I could write a book; his knowledge of God is my knowledge of God. Are you forever seeking the next "thing" or "rush" to fulfill you? That emptiness man has sought to fill with the things of the earth can only be filled by God's Holy Spirit. As Deere says, you CAN have a relationship with God, you CAN hear the voice of God. God DESIRES your friendship. His desire for you to know Him is so great He did the unthinkable and sent His SON to die for one reason---YOU! God wants to call YOU "friend". Ten years ago I realized my soul was starved. I had reached a place of great hunger to know THE One who calls to us from our darkness and to come into the light of the Kingdom of His Son Jesus. I purposed in my heart that I would come to know God through the diligent reading of His Word and seeking Him in prayer. And one day the words of Colossians came alive and I heard the clear audible voice of God tell me to comfort another. Yes the audible voice of God.Last night as I approached the last pages of Jack Deere's book, "Surprised by the Voice of God," I wept in the presence of the Holy Spirit who testified here was a man who knows the God of all creation, a man who has been enabled only by the indwelling Holy Spirit to put into words who God is and what God requires in and from us to enable us to dwell in the inner chamber--that place of His presence abiding in us and us in Him. But mostly my tears were thanksgiving and supplication to God, asking Him to bring friends and family to that place. I pray you come to know Him and if you choose to read Jack Deere's book, "Surprised by the Voice of God," that the words God gave Him to write the book pierce your heart, soul, and mind to seek God with your entire being and might through His Word and ever seeking Holy Spirit. And that one day you hear God's voice call you "My friend."

I am only partially through it but gave it full star rating because the very subject matter exposes the missing link to a full walk with God today: signs, wonders, supernatural power of God. I experienced this in the first 10 yrs of my Christianity when I only listened to God's Voice and not let myself become distracted by the world...now 15 yrs later, I am hungering for All again!

For too long we have cheated ourselves from being open to the workings of God's awesome Spirit in our lives. This book isn't a showcase for shenanigans. Indeed not. It is a honest and benevolent description of how we can experience the encouragement, comfort and joy of the Holy Spirit. I very much admire how Mr. Deere admonishes us all to keep in the Word, and how he provides guidance on how to test false spirits and false prophecies that spring from pride and self-interest. God is working in a dynamic and loving fashion in His Spirit. Open yourself to exploring that blessing. Mr. Deere's book lovingly shows you how to do so.

This is an interesting and helpful book on an important topic. I did not find it to be quite as profound as "Surprised by the Power of the Spirit," but it was nonetheless well written.
