Great vocabulary expansion is possible with this book. The etymological study of words was of significant value to my 12th grade daughter when taking the SAT and the AP English exam. She not only learned the words in the book but was able to apply the root word process to extrapolate the meaning of other words on the two exams.

Found this to be easy to use and straightforward. I don't do all the extra monthly review exercises. Using it for 12th grade with my oldest, and the next student will be using it in 11th grade. I need the answer key but I don't use the lesson plans. I have my 12th grader copy vocab. words 12x each, and also copy the roots w/ definitions once. I give tests at the end of two weeks on spelling of vocab. words and on roots. (These tests are mine, not theirs.) Multiple choice exercises are easy to grade. Sometimes with the fill-in-the-blank exercises, there are options that might work other than the ones given in the answer key; the ones from these that my student gets wrong will be double-checked by me to make sure she gets full credit for work done. I do have my students re-work (for half the grade credit) any problems they have gotten wrong. This aids in attention to detail the first time around (they dislike corrections) and in all-around comprehension.
