Continuum International Church Dogmatics, 31 Volumes

The most important theological work of the 20th century in a new edition! Karl Barth's Church Dogmatics is one of the major theological works of the 20th century. The Swiss-German theologian Karl Barth (1886-1968) was the most original and significant Reformed theologian of the twentieth century.

He was one of the central figures in the Confessing Church in Germany, which opposed the Nazi Regime. Barth began the Church Dogmatics in 1932 and continued working on its thirteen volumes until the end of his life. Barth's writings continue to guide and instruct the preaching and teaching of pastors and academics worldwide. The English translation was prepared by a team of scholars and edited by G. W. Bromiley and T. F. Torrance and published from 1936.

A team of scholars and specialists at Princeton Theological Seminary have started revising the existing translation. The first step was the translation of Greek, Latin, Hebrew and French passages into English. The original is now presented alongside the English translation. This makes the work more reader friendly and accessible to the growing number of students who do not have a working knowledge of the ancient languages. This new edition with translations is presented for the first time in print. The new edition is presented in a new bigger format and broken down into 31 paperback volumes.

Met all my expectations; it neither exceeded them nor fell short of them.
Excellent product; well laid out. I like that you still have the Latin, Greek and Hebrew texts still present in their original language. So if you aspire one day to learn the languages you can; but for now the translations make life a whole helluva lot easier.

I waited until I was halfway into the second volume to write this review. This set has exceeded my expections. When you consider the price compared to other offers, this is the one you want to buy. There are references in Latin and Greek on almost every page, so unless you can translate them yourself, I wouldn't recommend the set without the translations or you will miss out on a wealth of additional insights by Augustine, Calvin, Aquinas, Anselm and Luther. Amazing theological work, highly recommended

The product itself is tremendous. I would urge CBD to be more careful in the handling department as the casing arrived irreparably torn. Still, delivery was quick and the volumes themselves are in pristine condition.

This is a wonderful edition. I ordered and received it in time (2 weeks to Canada). I really love the English translation of all Latin and Greek texts.

I don't wish to review the content of the books because I am still working through the text myself. I do want to state that the 31 volume set with the display box is much better than the 13 or 14 volume set. The display box keeps the books nicer and when they are shipped they arrive in better condition. To those of you who undertake the task of engaging this subject matter I wish you good luck and God's blessings!

This is an excellent new edition of Karl Barth's Church Dogmatics. The 31 small paperback volumes with Latin quotations translated as footnotes is easy to read and absorb. In addition, the final index volume contains several comprehensive indices as well as a section from Barth for each lectionary passage in the liturgical year. Easy to be inspired with this handy set.
