If you are a bible believing Christian, please do not purchase this set! There is too many "errors" in this book that do not line up with biblical perspective. I believe you can use errors for "teaching moments" to show your children what is not correct, but when you need the child to do their work by themselves--those teaching moments are lost. I have multiple children whom I homeschool.

Although we have not used this yet my Husband did read the main textbook and asked if he could actually teach the children this subject. He loves History and said this was a very good textbook. Can't wait to do the activities with the kiddos. Looks wonderful!

I am a homeschool mom, a christian, evangelical, homeschool mom. I am also a christian that does not agree with the straight six 24 hour day teaching of creation. Why is it that I should hang my head in shame for having the scientific and theological sense to say God is GOD and our sense of time is clearly limited to our time on this earth!? I am excited to see a text that embraces the "long, long, long" ago that is so hard to find in Christian texts. I hope this is a continuing trend, as many evangelical physicists will tell you to just read up on the Theory of Relativity and challenge God on time. :) Thanks, CBD.

I'm surprised to see books like this listed in a Christian bookstore!
I don't know what is worse, the book itself with all the evolution mixed up with Christianity (wolf in sheep's clothing?) or the " Andreola Review", which reads:"As was generally accepted when the main body of the book was written, Old Testament characters such as Abraham, Moses, and Joseph have a place in history and are referred to as real people. One entire chapter gives a story of Christ—as a significant person involved in significant events."
As a Christian and a homeschool mom, I would never use these books to teach my children, and I do not recommend them to anyone that considers himself a Christian!

Years ago I recalled a friend of mine who was in her early 80's telling me about this particular book. Her parents had read it to her as a child, she thought it was the most wonderful story she had ever heard. Now that I am a homeschooling parent I have to agree with my friend. The book was written in the mid 1930's by the headmaster of the Calvert School, V.M. Hillyer. It has been updated over the decades so its contents are current. Throughout the book there are illustrations by Carle Michel Boog and Mary Sherwood Wright which enhance the storytelling. The year our child was in first grade our family read and reread this particular book many times. The worktext and timeline which are included in this package contain lessons and activities to enchance your learning experience. I would highly recommend this book as a read aloud for family reading or for your own personal enrichment.
