Westminster John Knox Press The Gospels for Everyone, 6 Vols. (New Testament for Everyone)

New testament scholar Tom (N. T.) Wright has undertaken a tremendous task: to provide guides to all the books of the New Testament, and to include in them his own translation of the entire text, in accessible and conversational format. Each passage is followed by a detailed but accessible discussion in which Wright's scholarly insight is made available, but which one does not need to be a scholar to understand. Wright gives background information, useful interpretations and applications that emphasize the relvancy of the biblical message for people today. A glossary is included at the back of each book. The For Everyone series is the ideal tool in today's crowded world of Bible study guides and commentaries for lay person's in group study, personal study, or simply for personal reading.

In this pack, you can have all volumes covering the Gospels in the For Everyone series, at a price not available elsewhere.

Included in this pack:

Matthew for Everyone: Part Two, hapters 16-28
  • Mark for Everyone

  • John For Everyone: Part One, Chapters 1-10
John For Everyone: Part Two, Chapters 11-21

I expected great scholarship from NT Wright, but was truly delighted to find these so accessible to normal layman. These are written from a pastoral level, not an academic level, hence the "Topm Wright" branding, not "N.T. Wright". They still raise all the important points with uncompromising scholarship, with Tom's own fresh translation from the Greek that is quite superior to the Message. This immediately moved from commentary into a personal devotional for me. It is a rich source of easy-to-package bible study materials. I heartily recommend this series, even though the price is a slight premium (hence only 4.5 stars, not 5).
