Proverbs is part of the Wisdom tradition, and as such is a collection of sayings, poems, and "life's little" instructions. Exhorting its readers (hearers) to seek the higher ideals--things like knowledge, discipline, piety, morality, and order--Proverbs offer guidance on how to live in harmony with God, with one's community, and with creation. This section by section commentary divides Proverbs into eight collections, and clarifies the major historical, social, literary, theological and ethical elements of the book.

Review 1 for Proverbs, Interpretation Commentary
Too much scholarship, too little meat

I have several volumes of this commentary series/set. If someone has no background in the concept and styles of wisdom literature of the Bible, this is probably a good book for them. I was hoping to find verse by verse insights, i.e. commentary.
For my purposes this didn't meet my needs.

Excellent for Bible Study and Sunday School.

This book gives one an excellent historical background of Proverbs. It also helps the student to better understand the moral, ethical, and spiritual guidances found in Proverbs that will either lead one to wisdom or a lack thereof.
