This is probably the most in depth and intense set on Greek word studies. The treatment is exhaustive to the point of being overwhelmed. Such is the depth of this set.
As long as one knows how to do Historical Grammatical exegesis and how word studies fit into that, this will prove to be an invaluable resource to understanding the scriptures.
God bless

This product came without dust covers, which was a surprise. However, dust covers suffer wear and tear easily, and as the product appears as it is in the photo, this is not an issue. And, at the amazing sale price that I purchased it from CBD, I am rapt. These volumes are a treasured addition to my library. Thank you CBD for making this essential set available at such an affordable price.

Usually I am well pleased with what I order from CBD. However on this item I was not exactly pleased. My reason is: I did not realize this was a reprint. When I saw the picture to order I assumed it had dust jackets like another set I have. It has the same cover as the dust jacket. It is also much cheaper made than the set I am familiar with. thanks and was disappointed.

I have used the Theological dictionary for a long time. It was referred to me by my mentor. It can be helpful but it is too techincal for most people.

This set is exactly what should come to mind when you hear someone say the word ' essential ' in Bible study material. Any pastor and serious student of Scripture will benefit when using this work. This edition is beautifully bound and the articles stimulate many excellent thoughts. I have found this set along with Lenski's NT commentaries to be a great help in preparing sermons and Bible studies on key concepts, doctrines and verses of the New Testament. A good value.

The level of scholarship alone, justifies a hefty price for this set. I could not believe one could purchase such a long-standing and respected work for this price! This is a lifetime purchase and while it assumes a level of understanding of NT Greek, the English exegesis and in-depth analysis easily opens up the meaning of biblical Greek for a neophyte to understand. This is a steal!

TDNT is indispensable for understanding Greek lexicography. It is unparalled in scope and depth. I can't recommend this highly enough. The only word of caution I have is that some people assume a word's lexical origin is the only way to understand its meaning, but the context of that word plays just as much if not a more important role in truly understanding a word. Unfortunately this problem is compounded by the tendancy of sompe pastors to base the meaning of an entire passage on the lexical history of a single word, which may or may not be truly relavent to the text at hand. However, acknowledging that, one absolutely cannot dispense with the study of lexicography, because without it one has no frame of reference to even begin studying a passage. So, properly used, this set is one of the most important tools students of the word of God can have.

I have used "Kittels" with profit for over 30 years. It is sometimes exhausting in it's depth, and is sometimes difficult to unbderstand if you are not careful. Believe it or not, it does not cover all biblical NT words, and so the large Liddel/Scott is nice to have. But as always, when you use it take local context into view, and it is of profit. See the section on Baptism if you have a copy to review, it will underline what I am saying.

Incredible! You can put so many other books away once you purchase this set. Vine's and others are just teasers compared to Kittel.

The only set of books you will need in your library. I have been in ministry for over 23 years. I have read lots of books; commentaries and history books and these, by far, are the best I've used in training for my life and ministry. I study the scriptures to live by them and not just to teach to others. These books have helped me dispel myths and erroneous teaching I received in the past and gave me a better understand of the scriptures. I recommend these to pastors and laymen alike - I believe in theological studies as a lifestyle and not just of the preacher.

No serious Biblical scholar should be without this set. It is not only one of the best theological dictionaries that is available today; but it is THE best. One will understand the full meaning of the vocabulary of the New Testament as each word is traced back to its root meaning sometimes beyond the first New Testament appearance. The articles are excellent, and many contain more information than found in first-rated commentaries. Take for example the word agapao thirty-four pages of solid exegesis, or the word Theos forty-four pages of clear sound exegesis. The pastor will be blessed by these volumes as they will open a new world to him, and so0 will the lay person benefit, for these volumes contain a goldmine of information. I found the volumes very useful and helpful, and I use them constantly in my study. I very strongly recommend these volumes to everybody lay or scholarly. Go out and purchase them, especially with the price CBD are offering, and you will never regret it.

I have waited for this set for many years. At last I afforded vit, thanks to the brilliant price at CBD. I advise every serious Bible student to purchase a copy as soon as he/she could. Make it your number one buy, and you will not regret it. The work is superb, for it is more than a Theological Dictionary. Five stars are not enough.

Kittle's work in this study is so valuable to a pastor's or bible teacher's research. I really think this is definitely a must have for any student, pastor, or teacher of the word... among others.

Although flawed by some linguistic fallacies (See James Barr, Semantics of Biblical Language, and D.A. Carson, Exegetical Fallacies), this work should be consulted for its shear breadth, and massive bibliographic entries. Colin Brown, New International Dictionary of NT Theology, is to be preferred over Kittel, but what it lacks in linguistic accuracy it makes up for in background information.
