dcinmadisonMadison, WIAge: 55-65Gender: male5 Stars Out Of 5SimplicityNovember 27, 2011dcinmadisonMadison, WIAge: 55-65Gender: maleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This review was written for ESV Literary Study Bible--soft leather-look, brown/parchment.I have had this version of the ESV for about 2 weeks. What I like are: the one column reading format, minimal intrustions by notes and information boxes, minimal interpretive material, the literary helps. What I don't like is the font size - this is an age issue.
In a couple of uses, the notes on the literary structure and genre have been just enough to get me on the right track for my own study. For example, I went to Isaiah 64 for the Advent Lectionary and was directed to the structure: Isaiah 63 and 64 are a unit representing a lament by the Prophet, and chapter 65 also can serve as a response by the Lord.
What is often lacking in study bibles is awareness of literary structure, this is what the ESVLB provides in a brief and helpful way. -
Tennessee bear man5 Stars Out Of 5understand the text yourself with literary notesDecember 14, 2014Tennessee bear manQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This review was written for The ESV Literary Study Bible.literary study bible. Brings the story of the bible helps you understand what bible literature is revealing. Hard to believe this has never been done before. When I read the literary notes before each section it allows me to follow and understand the text for myself, not someone else spoon feeding me their ideas. Higly recommend if you want to read and understand the bible for real life change by His Spirit

J WilsonRickman, TNAge: 35-44Gender: male5 Stars Out Of 5Love It!! Highly Recommend This Reader's Bible!!October 6, 2012J WilsonRickman, TNAge: 35-44Gender: maleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This review was written for The ESV Literary Study Bible. This was given to me by a friend, and I am so thankful.
First of all I love the single-column format, it reads more like a book.
It doesn't have thousands of notes...a point which I like. In-depth notes have their place, but can tend to be rather distracting from the Word. The short commentary is just before each book and chapter, so it doesn't distract as you're reading the text. Great for reading straight through.
The print size is great for me, even though I wear glasses.
The overall size is not too bulky and big, just right to carry to church or wherever.
The quality seems good, especially for the low price.
I just received this bible, but believe understanding the literary style will really help in understanding the text.
Overall I would highly recommend this bible to anyone that is looking for an excellent reader's bible. -
Sandy5 Stars Out Of 5Such a different way to study Gid's word.May 20, 2016SandyQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This review was written for ESV Literary Study Bible--soft leather-look, brown/parchment.I love this Bible. Exploring and studying with it has opened my eyes to the vast range of literary devices used by the writers of the Bible to help us to gain not only knowledge and understanding of God's word, but also to engage us in developing a strong and saving relationship with Him. The literary introductions to each chapter and the glossary are particularly useful and informative. the book itself is of quite a lovely quality!

Brian ValentineAtlanta, GAAge: 55-65Gender: male5 Stars Out Of 5Outstanding BibleJune 1, 2014Brian ValentineAtlanta, GAAge: 55-65Gender: maleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This review was written for ESV Literary Study Bible--soft leather-look, brown/parchment.I read this Bible every day. As someone who didn't pay much attention in English class through high school and college, this Study Bible is a real eye-opener! The short comments before each section of scripture describing the literary features are very helpful. They help me read the text as the author meant them to be read. Thank for this amazing, very helpful Bible.
