I listened to this CD to reinforce my drive to homeschool my son as he enters the high school years. So many of my friends bale out on their children when they get to high school. I feel it is the worst time to throw them into the "real" world. Peer pressures, violence in the schools and lower educational standards are a few of the things we see in our area. Mr. Wile does a great job of giving evidence of NOT public schooling our high schoolers. He also gives some great ideas on how to make it all happen when we feel overwhelmed. The one point he made that really encouraged me was, " You don't have to be an expert to home school your child." He explained that with good books the child at this age self teaches much of his education. We are to only facilitate that learning. If he is stuck and we don't know the answer, we become co-learners at that point. The experience of searching out the answer together actually benefits the child far more than spoon feeding the answers. Excellent lesson for parents!!

I HIGHLY recommend this CD to ALL homeschoolers - especially if you're in the Jr. High years heading into highschool, and even if you're already "teaching" high school at home. Trust me - this CD is WELL worth the minimal cost - it's worth WAY more than this!!! Get ready to take notes that will transform and solidify your thoughts about homeschooling high school. Go ahead, stick this one in your shopping cart right now! :o) I must also add that if you desire to ask Dr. Jay Wile questions once you've heard this CD (and to thank him for cutting this CD)- email him! He will actually answer you! He is very nice and very helpful!
