In Healer of My Heart by Pamela Griffin, you will get drawn into the story from start to finish.
Seona leaves Scotland running from superstitous notions that would have gotten her hanged. Her cousin helps her stow away aboard a ship.
Colin's brother becomes ill and beause Seona ran into him and spilled her pouch, he'd seen her herbs. So he seeks her out to treat his brother.
She thinks she is fleeing her past but it follows her to America. Yet she finds freedom and trust in Colin.
In Printed on My Heart by Laurie Alice Easkes, again you will get drawn into the story from start to finish.
Fiona leaves Scotland to come to North Carolina. She has suffered so many hardships since her sister left Scottland. She feels if she finds a brooch that has been the family, it will solve everything. Like Fiona, we like to blame our bad luck on something.
Owain tries to rescue her from a public whipping. Thus she ends up indentured to his family. Owain and his family are printers. Fiona cannot trust anyone since everyone she loves disappears or dies.
Fiona is Seona's cousin. She is trying to find her sister. But she finds so much more than she expected.
A story of love, finding faith and rewards. As Owain buys Fiona to save her, so does God buy our salvation. Then Owain sets her free just like Jesus does for us.
I can hardly wait for the next story of course. I don't have to as it is in the same book.
In Sugar Plum Hearts by Gina Welborn, another story that will hold you.
Seren Cardew is the daughter of Fiona and Owain from last story. This is the third story about a family heirloom brooch.
Seren has sold the brooch to fulfill her dreams of opening a Confectionery. People in town will not buy her sweets.
Enters Finley who has arrived in town trying to get some business as a broker. He wants to buy a farm and settle down. God tells him Seren in his answer. She is hard to convince to trust him.
Both Seren and Finley get more than they expect as God puts two people together. Fingley gives up his dream as a Farmer to help Seren fulfill her dream. That is pure love. He even surprises her with a special gift to wear their wedding day.
In Hearts Inheritance, the beginning takes a while to get into story. But stick with it.
Brynna has a dream to open a museum. But the towns people do not think a woman should. Her sister, Bonnie, has the brooch these stories are all about.
Niall arrives in town from Scottland. His Uncle has died and left him the mill, his house and the place where Brynna works. Brynna sets out to dislike him from the start.
Brynna is well liked in town yet the Mayor sells the property she wants to Niall. She tries to kill his plans. Instead it turns around to surprise her.
Museum people are in town to advise her when the museum is announced by the Mayor. Things go wrong and Niall risks his life for the brooch.
All four stories are about a family heirloom - the brooch. They all find out the brooch is not what they expected and find faith instead. Yet the brooch keeps getting returned to the family.

Highland Crossings is a delightful, past-paced read of four excellent novellas by four different authors. A Scottish heirloom, a broach, ties these romantic stories together as each of these journeys takes place at different times, starting with 1739 with Healer of my Heart, 1758 with Printed on my Heart, 1789 with Sugarplum Hearts, and then jumping to 1815 with Heart’s Inheritance.
Each story grips you with fun and believable characters, and events that are great entertainment. Even the names of these characters—Seona and Colin, Fiona and Owain, Seren Cardew and Finely Sinclair, and Brynna Sinclair and Niall Cameron---breath life onto the page.
If you love books that have a Scottish flair then you’ll enjoy
this anthology. You can hear the rolling of the ‘R’s in the dialogue for sure. Not only does it have all the dash and passion and swagger of Scotland, but by bringing the characters to the new world we get a true sense of what these immigrants experienced.
Not once does the story bog down, but prances forward and is very hard to put down.
The first author, Pamela Griffin, is new to me but a writer
that I enjoyed very much in this anthology. I am already a huge fan of Laurie Alice Eakes, and her story in this book confirmed my good taste in this author. Highland Crossings was the debut for Gina Welborn, who really impressed me with her writing and I must say was a delightful read about her heroine, Serena’s candy story and the roguish and attractive Finley. The forth author, and certainly not the last, Jennifer Hudson Taylor, is also an author of whom I am a big fan.
I highly recommend this book for a nice, fast-paced, inspirational and fun read.

A delightful collection of stories that follow the journey of one treasured broach through four generations of young Americans.
Four novellas all linked together by one broach, spanning generations. It all begins when Seona flees her native land in hopes of escaping a past of lies and misunderstandings, taking with her, her dear friend's family heirloom. The stories follow, an immigrant, wrongly forced into being made an indentured servant, a confectioner, and a young woman determined to perserve her community's heritage with a museum. For each of these young women, love is found in the most unexpected places, and their faith keeps them strong in times of hardship.
Each of the stories were well crafted and made the most of the lack of length to develop the characters and the plot expertly. I would say that the broach showed up more porminantly in some stories than in others, so sometimes I was sitting there thinking, "When is the broach going to show up?" One of the tings I loved most about this book was the variety. Variety in the plots, and variety in the different authors' voices. The character development was amazing in all four novellas for such short stories. If I had to pick a favorite story, I'm sure that I couldn't do it. Which is a great thing!
Overall, a great read. And especially great when you want to finish a story quick, and be able to lay it down and pick it up again in short intervals. Great book for those who like Irish/Scottish historicals, and Christian fiction in general :)

This is the 2nd book of the series Romancing America that I have read and I really like them. They are a group of shorter stories but they fit together in such a way that it seems like one book. I am looking forward to reading more of these books.
What I liked: The first story starts out in Scotland with Seona. She sails to the new world to get away from certain death. Along the way she finds love and we learn about the early settlements of America. Each story has different plots and characters but builds on the story before it some. It’s also the same family just generations forward. A good read.
What I did not like: The last two stories the two main characters did not know each other very long at all or spend a lot of time together yet they fell in love very fast. Just not as believable as the first two stories where there was more time (story would jump forward weeks or months) for the characters to interact.
Over all I liked this book and recommend this book. It’s an easy and quick read which can be nice when your looking for something not as deep as a regular novel.

In February’s release, Romancing America takes us to the 1700s, when many Scottish immigrants came to North Carolina. The characters in this collection are related to one other, though the stories don’t follow a strictly generational format.
A family heirloom helps tie the tales together. This brooch is of a lion’s head with topaz eyes, and was given to an ancestor 200 years earlier for service to the crown. It’s by far the most valuable item this family owns, and it’s taken on mythic proportions.
In “Healer of My Heart” by Pamela Griffin, dangerous accusations force Seona to flee Scotland with the brooch in hand, but will she find peace before her past is revealed?
This novella starts out in Scotland as Seona is smuggled aboard the Thistle as a stowaway, bound for North Carolina. If she’s caught–or recognized onboard–she may well be burned at the stake. A well respected agent, Colin Campbell, discovers her presence, and doesn’t turn her in because she’s a healer who can cure his younger brother of his ailments. He’s also attracted to her and sets Seona up to live with his cousin in the New Land. But if she can’t trust him with her past, how can they build a future together?
In “Printed on My Heart” by Laurie Alice Eakes, Seona’s cousin Fiona arrives in North Carolina years later in search of the brooch. Nothing has gone right in their Scottish village since the brooch disappeared, and superstition demands its return. Fiona is down on her luck and bitter besides. There’s a nasty law that allows the town constable to whip her because she isn’t employed, but she’s rescued by Owain, the printer’s son. He pays the fine, which indentures her to the family for a year.
Fiona chafes at the sentence, knowing it slows down her search for her family’s treasure. But the love she sees between the members of the Cardew family, and between them and God, begins to tug at her heart. Can both she and Owain trust God to meet their needs and provide them a future filled with love?
In “Sugarplum Hearts” by Gina Welborn, Seren sells the brooch to open a confectionery, but will the precious heirloom be lost to a hopeless dream? After all, no one understands candy just for the sake of candy. Now, if she only made sweet-tasting medicines, her neighbors would understand.
Finley Sinclair is a broker with a dream. He only wants to make enough money to buy a farm, and the only item he can find to resell in the city are Seren’s candies. And if this should happen to endear him to their maker, that wouldn’t be all bad. He’s a man with a wee bit of self-confidence where the ladies are concerned, and Seren is not amused.
This novella is Gina Welborn’s debut and I must admit I really enjoyed Finley in particular. It’s difficult to write a character who’s convinced he’s God’s gift to women and have him come off as endearing rather than arrogant. Gina managed to pull this off.
In “Heart’s Inheritance” by Jennifer Hudson TaylorThe heirloom brooch belongs to Brynna Cardew’s older sister, and that makes Brynna a little jealous. She’s the one with a deep love of history, after all. So it’s doubly annoying when Niall Cameron comes to town determined to update his deceased uncle’s businesses. Has he no respect for heritage? As Brynna’s employer, Niall has no idea what he’s done to annoy her, but he wants her love, not her ire. When the brooch is stolen, Niall knows just how he can win her over.
Something I really enjoyed about this collection were the voices of the various authors. In general, I prefer reading contemporary romance over historical, so it takes a stronger voice to pull me into historical fiction. These gals have that voice in spades. A few times I got hung up on the Scottish lingo, but it wasn’t overdone.
If you enjoy historical and/or Scottish fiction, you’ll love this glimpse into the Campbell/Cardew family of the 1700s in North Carolina.

Laurie Alice Eakes, Pamela Griffin, Jennifer Hudson Taylor, and Gina Welborn did an EXCELLENT job with this novella collection!
Highland Crossing is a four-novella collection of Scottish immigrants, centered around an heirloom brooch.
Healer of My Heart, By Pamela Griffin
1739 - To keep from being killed, Seona sneaks aboard a ship sailing to America. A healer, on the crossing she saves Colin’s brother. When they reach the colony of North Carolina, Colin brings her under his wing, placing her in a home near his in an isolated settlement. I love this novella and felt like Pamela took me right to the backwoods of colonial North Carolina. Wonderful love story by a fabulous story-teller!
1758 - Printed on My Heart, By Laurie Alice Eakes
The really fun part of reading this novella was that I took Laurie Alice around Colonial Williamsburg, with Gina, last year when she interviewed the printer there. Laurie Alice is blind but the reader would never know that reading her work. This novella is yet another example of this author’s ability to pack a shorter book (novella) with unbelievable details without sacrificing the integrity of the story. Laurie Alice has you loving poor Fiona and her hero Owain before you can say “I do”!!!
1789 – Sugarplum Hearts, By Gina Welborn
Seren Cardew is a candy maker. Finley Sinclair, a new immigrant from Scotland, aspires to become a broker. Except that he has no clients! These two were made for each other!
This is Gina Welborn’s debut. Well done, Gina!
1815 - Heart’s Inheritance, By Jennifer Hudson Taylor
Brynna Sinclair aspires to bring a museum to her town and cherishes history. She likes things to stay as they are. When Niall Cameron, a new Scottish immigrant, takes over at her workplace, she is sure his changes will bring ruin to the community. When he buys a building that Brynna has coveted for a museum, sparks fly.
Jennifer Hudson Taylor has two other Scottish trade length books under her belt and it shows in her knowledge. She also lives in North Carolina, where the story is set!

“Highland Crossings” is another sweet historical, Christian romance book…actually it was a 4-in-1 type book – which I liked! All four books are set in the 1700's in North Carolina and are “intertwined” with each other by the family heirloom brooch, although each book focuses on a different person within the family – in fact, most are different generations. I really liked each of the 4 “mini-books”, they were all cute in their own right. They were all Christian books, but none of them were “in-your-face” with their Christian beliefs, etc. The main theme for the majority of the books is following God’s will instead of your own…other themes are learning to trust others, and sacrificing for those you love.
I really liked this book, it was a cute, sweet book…very easy-to-read {although the first 2 “mini-books” had a lot of “authentic” dialect written in…it took a little bit to get used to reading that}. I LOVE this type of book – with the 4 related mini-books made into one book. I would recommend “Highland Crossings” to you…it’s a very enjoyable book! 4 out of 5 stars!!
Disclosure of Material Connection: I received an e-book edition of this book free from the publisher. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

Sugarplum Hearts

Finley offers her a business proposal that will benefit the both of them. When someone sabotages her wares they are left with little clues. Hearts Inheritance
Bynna Sinclair lover, of historical things, does not take to change lightly. Niall Cameron has come upon an inheritance left to him by his uncle, and is insistant upon change for the better. The two always seem to share a difference of opinion. Sometimes misunderstandings bring about bitterness. Even in the most desparate of lives the Lord can bring repair and healing to any situation of the heart.
I enjoyed reading and getting to know these personable and well developed characters. Each gifted author adds her own personal touch to four interacting progressive storylines. These can be read in one sitting or broken up into more. If I had to pick a favorite I it would be Sugarplum Hearts. I was entertained by these well written romantic and suspenseful novellas and had a hard time putting the stories down! I found the overall message inspiring and would recommend this book to others Thanks to Barbour Publishing and Netgalley for the ARC for my review.
