The Vision Forum, Inc Missionary Patriarch: The True Story of John G. Paton

From Scotland to the South Pacific islands, John Paton left all that was familiar to face terrifying dangers amidst the cannibals of the New Hebrides. Profoundly shaped by his father's deat, Paton led thousands to Christ. This is the story of one man's vision for the family, love for the lost, trust in God's sovereignty, and indomitable courage in the face of adversity.

What an incredible blessing! The story of John Paton should be standard reading. I ordered two more for my adult sons and a children's version by Kay Walsh for my 12 year old. I read some aloud to my husband every day. I weep from my soul; I laugh til I hurt; and I am challenged to walk worthy of this example. Do not let the size of the book keep you away. Mr. Paton's style is easier to read than a novel. Thanks to the publisher for keeping this magnificent story alive.

An incredible book. Yes, there are over 500 pages and I'm only half-way through, but this book is simply amazing.Mr. Paton does a wonderful job of describing his life as a missionary on the island of Tanna. He tells of his adventures in a way that is humorous, God-honoring, touching, and very exciting. For being written over a hundred years ago, this is one of the most well-written books I've ever read. (I am in my teens and tend to skip over the boring parts in books; it was impossible for me to do so in this one.)I try to read just a little bit each day and seem to be making good progress. I strongly recommend this book to anyone interested in missionaries, serving God, or an exciting godly read. This book is well worth it.
