Educators Publishing Service Wordly Wise 3000, Grade 3, 2nd Edition
Three thousand carefully selected words taken from literature, textbooks, and SAT-prep books are the basis of this exciting vocabulary series that teaches new words through reading, writing, and a variety of exercises. Each lesson's alphabetized word list gives pronunciations, parts of speech, and concise definitions, and uses each word in a sentence. Interesting, engaging, and acting as a mnemonic anchor for the word, sentences are anything but boring! Comprehension of the vocabulary words is facilitated and reinforced through the five different exercises repeated in each lesson; new for the 2nd, expanded edition of Wordly Wise, reading first strategies as well as Greek and Latin roots are now included as well!
Wordly Wise 3000, Book contains 15 lessons with 150 words. Words taught in book 3 include: elect, frustrate, govern, haste, injure, pastime, rate, rig, spine, surrender, tentacle, tournament, vanish and volunteer. This 2nd edition book includes lessons 8-10 of the previous Wordly Wise 3000, Book B and all lessons in Wordly Wise 3000, Book C. New exercise 4--"word study" now replaces "Completing the Thought".

Great curriculum, great price! Best of all, my 3rd grader loves it! She pulls it out first thing in the morning. My one comment is that, prepare you student for the story. Sometimes they will be unable to answer the questions in the one line provided. I probably wouldn't even be able to write a complete answer in the blank provided! Overall, though, great resource!

An excellent program!! I used it with all three of my children . The program was recommended by my mother who is a teacher, she used this curriculum with my brothers one of which is currently a creative writing major at UCR.

This book has helped my children with their vocabulary. The exercises are challenging but not too difficult. They also teach other subjects while learning their vocabulary. The price was just right for our budget needs this summer. I will definitly come back and get the next grade when we are finished.

I grew up using Wordly Wise and now use these with all of my homeschooling kids. These books are amazing and not only help expand your child's vocabulary, but also help them understand use of words in context and their meanings. We use these daily and my kids vocabulary has expanded so much as a result.

The updated Wordly Wise system of word recognition, vocabulary and tense appropriateness is an excellent resource standard for students. I'd recommend it for any type of schooling.

The book has 10 vocabulary words and several different types of exercises to study these words and their meaning. One aspect that we did not anticipate was a method for teaching our child to go back to a story to look up answers. With the questions having highlighted vocabulary words and the stories having the same vocabulary words highlighted, a method for teaching our child to find information in a story just read is inherent in this cirriculum. A few short exercises are grammar that were unexpected, more in line with 4th grade, and not taught in the book. 99% of the book was excellent.

My daughter loves this book. It's pretty easy to follow along with and she can do most of the work on her own. I'm not sure I like all the blue on the inside - trivial I know but it actually is distracting when looking at the word list.

We really enjoy these books. They are an excellent supplement to teach vocabulary. We are currently using them for our spelling program, as well and it has been wonderful because my children can work through the sections independently. One caution, however, they are not written from a Christian world view, so preview/preread the comprehension passages.
