Educators Publishing Service Wordly Wise 3000, Grade 6, 2nd Edition

Three thousand carefully selected words taken from literature, textbooks, and SAT-prep books are the basis of this exciting vocabulary series that teaches new words through reading, writing, and a variety of exercises. Each lesson's alphabetized word list gives pronunciations, parts of speech, and concise definitions, and uses each word in a sentence. Interesting, engaging, and acting as a mnemonic anchor for the word, sentences are anything but boring! Comprehension of the vocabulary words is facilitated and reinforced through the five different exercises repeated in each lesson; new for the 2nd, expanded edition of Wordly Wise, reading first strategies as well as Greek and Latin word studies with prefixes, suffixes, parts of speech, synonyms, antonyms, and analogies.

Wordly Wise 3000, Book 6 contains 20 lessons. Words taught in Book 6 include: cordial, flammable, gait, hoax, oblivious, perpetual, placid, preliminary, retaliate, scoff, unanimous, vanquish and more. This 2nd Edition book replaces the previous Wordly Wise 3000 Book 3. 175 two-tone pages, softcover.

Please Note!: This book contains references to evolution.

The Wordly Wise 3000 program is great. My daughter actually enjoys vocabulary now. Just be careful, this is not a Christian program and there have been stories that go against my faith. But, I do the comprehension stories with my daughter and use anything we don't agree with as a teaching moment. In a way it's good, my daughter knows she can't believe everything she reads and is learning to be a critical thinker. So, despite the secular world-view. I still recommend this product ... just be cautious if you're Christian, your children do all the work independently and don't have great critical thinking skills.

I began using Wordly Wise with my third child when he was in 6th grade. He found he really liked the program overall and felt like he was learning vocabulary better than with my former method. This year, I bought Wordly Wise books 5 and 6 for my 5th grader and books 7 and 8 for my 7th grader. Since there are only 20 main lessons, a child can complete one book and begin the next in the same school year. I plan to have them pick up this fall wherever they left off this school year, and continue onward. My goal is for them to complete 3 grade levels of vocabulary over 2 school years.
Although there is evolutionary material in these books, I feel that this is a good program if your kids are able to ignore it, or if you are willing to deal with the topic when it comes up.

I grew up using Wordly Wise and now use these with all of my homeschooling kids. These books are amazing and not only help expand your child's vocabulary, but also help them understand use of words in context and their meanings. We use these daily and my kids vocabulary has expanded so much as a result.

This product is very helpful in my homeschooling, especialy for my son who dislikes English-related work. Both of my children find it more enjoyable than rote memeorization.

My children take part in a small Christian school which includes grades 6-12. Wordly Wise is used in all seven grade levels. It is excellent preparation for SATs.

I cannot believe that so many reviewers, presumedly Christians, would not make mention of the core evolutionary worldview presented in this book. One statement was presented as theory (some scientist believe birds were dinos) and the others were presented as fact - whales were first land animals, millions of years ago, this species evolved, etc. Also - the paragraphs for reading provide no real life skills or values but seem to be watered down history and science snippets - not much to take home here. The book is laid out nicely and the presentation is attractive. I am going to go another direction and try Vocabulary Vine, also available here. Fortunately, CB allows returns for 30 days. I greatly appreciate that.

Love this series. My students will continue all the way through series 12. I wish I began sooner. I notice my students using the vocabulary words throughout the day. Great for homeschooling.

This is a super series! We love it. Each Friday I give my sons an oral test on the definitions. I read a definition and they tell me the vocab word. I also use it for spelling. We go through the list until they can spell each word correctly. I would recommend this series very highly. You won't be disappointed.

The words taught and the format are great. The selected readings are not always what I would choose for subject matter, but they do cover the vocabulary well. The biggest thing I'd like to see with this book is to have the answers included in the text--either right in the book, which would be ideal, or shrink-wrapped with the text.

My daughter enjoyed Wordly Wise 5, so we decided to get this one and we know it will be just as good! We homeschool and It has been great for independent work, that she can check herself with the answer key that we also bought (I recommend you buy it too).

I love this series because it makes a reluctant reader/writer become engaged in these activities. All vocabulary words are re-spelled and defined in the vocabulary list eliminating the need for a separate dictionary, a real time saver and confidence builder for kids who have problems concentrating if there are two separate books involved. A wonderful series which is also challenging.

My son and I are thrilled with this program! I have been searching for a spelling/vocabulary program for a long time. Wordly Wise 3000 is nicely laid out and the activities are challenging but very appropriately chosen. I love how they include a non-fiction story that includes the vocabulary words. It is perfect for reading comprehension. I also use this as my spelling program and it has worked out great for us.

We have been using Wordly Wise for 2 years now and they are great books. I like the way the books lead the children to work on their own. Each lesson includes spelling, vocabulary, reading comprehension and so much more!! We highly recommend the Wordly Wise books.
