Customer Reviews for Educators Publishing Service Wordly Wise 3000, Grade 8, 2nd Edition

Educators Publishing Service Wordly Wise 3000, Grade 8, 2nd Edition

Three thousand carefully selected words taken from literature, textbooks, and SAT-prep books are the basis of this exciting vocabulary series that teaches new words through reading, writing, and a variety of exercises. Each lesson's alphabetized word list gives pronunciations, parts of speech, and concise definitions, and uses each word in a sentence. Interesting, engaging, and acting as a mnemonic anchor for the word, sentences are anything but boring! Comprehension of the vocabulary words is facilitated and reinforced through the five different exercises repeated in each lesson; new for the 2nd, expanded edition of Wordly Wise, reading first strategies as well as Greek and Latin word studies with prefixes, suffixes, parts of speech, synonyms, antonyms, and analogies.

Wordly Wise 3000, Book 8 contains 20 lessons; words taught in Book 8 include: fastidious, grimace, hallowed, immaculate, inclement, indefatigable, lackadaisical, lurid, malevolent, perpetuate, pilfer, query, recant, requisite, servile, surveillance and more. This 2nd Edition book replaces the previous Wordly Wise 3000, Book 5. A new reading passage, More Than Just a Pretty Flower, replaces Miss America and "Word study" now replaces "Word relationships". 170 two-tone pages, softcover.

I like how this book provides numerous different ways for the students to use the new word list. Also, each week is not set up exactly the same way - there is a nice variety of activities. I especially like that there are so many passages so that the students can see the words in context.
Great value and pertinent to students' lives.

I wasn't sure what to expect with Worldly Wise, but after using it with my girls it just seems to be a real tool. I have tried other spelling books and they DONT compare to this one. I think you'll agree if you try it. The exercises in the book are a welcome addition to help your kids learn not just how to spell the words but give them a better understanding of how to use them properly.I think you'll agree that having the definition along with the words is very usefull as well. This book has been a GREAT find for us.

My children take part in a small Christian school which includes grades 6-12. Wordly Wise is used in all seven grade levels. It is excellent preparation for SATs.

This is a super series! We love it. Each Friday I give my sons an oral test on the definitions. I read a definition and they tell me the vocab word. I also use it for spelling. We go through the list until they can spell each word correctly. I would recommend this series very highly. You won't be disappointed.

This book is horrible. Many of the answers are subjective, or have two correct answers, though the answer document says it only has 1. It is helpful in learning vocabulary, but not helpful in maintaining an A or B in English. As of now I have all A+s, with 2 exceptions. an A in geometry and a C in English. Why? Wordly Wise. It could be very good, it just needs refinement.

Easy to follow and use, like that voc and grammar are in one book, so we don't have so many books taking up space. Will use again next year.

We LOVE Wordly Wise! The 2nd edition is better than ever, even though at first I was leery of our beloved World Wise being "dumbed down" because of the colors and new print style. My kids have impressive vocabularies because of these books, which we have used every year since we started homeschooling. My kids use these books independently---and were very upset when I was thinking about not using them or changing programs.
