This was a good book with a great plot. The characters good have had a bit more richness and I guessed the "mystery" before the mid way mark. I would recc this for a easy, casual read after a book that was a bit heavier.

This book was a fun read with many twists and turns. It was the first book I had read by this author, but it likely won't be the last. The only strange thing to me was that I did not expect the author to incorporate hypnosis into the story line. Other than that, it was a great book, and I would (and have) recommended it to others.

great storyline was intrigued til the end. would recommend to anyone.
The story opens as Angel Delaney, a police office, and her partner arrive on the scene of a pharmacy robbery in progress. Angel chases the robbers out of the rear of the pharmacy, confronting one in a darkened warehouse. After the robber raises a gun, Angel shoots and realizes that he is a kid. When the boy dies, Angel's world falls apart, with the media and the boy’s relatives attack her and accuse her of being a racist.
This is an exciting, enjoyable mystery romance with a Christian theme. The themes of racial hatred and Christianity run through the book, while Angel attempts to deal with the emotions of the killing and issues in her life. Rushford keeps you guessing about the identity of the killer until the end of the book. Angel is an enjoyable character as she struggles to deal with shooting a boy, accusations of racisism, and her unstable faith. Female readers of detective stories with a romantic twist should pick up a copy of Deadly Aim. I cannot wait to pick up the next ones in the series, as well as other Rushford novels.

christians should not be practicing hypnosis. storyline only refered to heroine brother as a priest, so i guess that makes this novel a christian novel.......
"Deadly Aim" is a romantic suspense/mystery. It is the first in a series, but it reads like a stand-alone. The story was very suspenseful as things just kept getting worse and worse--emotional trauma, physical danger, and a series of murders of which people were quick to suspect her guilty. I didn't see how the author was going to turn things around. The characters were interesting, complex, and acted realistically. However, some evidence was used even after circumstances where it could potentially have been tampered with, and I'm not sure that was realistic.
While "whodunit" was on my list of likely suspects, I was left feeling somewhat unconvinced that this whodunit would have gotten away with all the evidence tampering, drug trafficking, and such without anyone noticing or could do that much killing without any change in behavior.
I liked that the romance didn't move too quickly. Angel had to work through letting go of a "safety net" boyfriend that she didn't intend to marry so that both of them could move on. I had admired how Angel and Callen didn't act on their desire to hug and kiss when it would have been inappropriate for them to do so...and then, within a page, they did do so. Ah, well. Also, I found it ironic that Angel hated how her father wouldn't trust her to do her job well despite all the evidence that she could, yet Angel wouldn't trust Callen to do his job well. But this was handled realistically.
Angel had been a Christian before a friend of hers was killed. Then Angel rejected God because He didn't answer her prayers the way she wanted Him to. After briefly ranting at her Christian family members about this on a few occasions, her mother pointed out that God had granted the prayer of the friend who died, and Angel reconsidered her view of God. This was worked in naturally and didn't come across as a sermon at any point.
There was no sex or explicit bad language. Overall, I'd recommend this suspenseful romantic mystery.

This is an excellent mystery, with just a little romance thrown in. The characters are interesting and the story is fast paced. Looking back, I should have figured out who the bad guy was, but I really didn't know. I can't wait to read the rest of this series. I felt connected to the characters and would like to see what happens to them next.

Angel Delaney is the only girl in a family of boys. After spending her life trying to get her father's approval, she became a police officer, following in his footsteps.
She moved back to her hometown getting on the same police force where her dad is a veteran. She becomes embroiled in a case where it looks like she has killed a young boy without justification. A media frenzy ensues. While trying to get to the bottom of this, there is lots of suspense, surprises & romance.
It's really hard to put this book down...you'll want to figure it out but the ending is not at all what you expect.
I'm always looking for new (to me) mystery authors. Now I have a new one to add to my list. I can't wait to get her next book!

This book took off right from the first page. I was like, "Wait! What just happened!?" and had to back up and start over. Loved it! Couldn't put it down. There were some things I wondered if that's how they would really be done by the police force, but that's just the way I think. I loved the interaction between the two main characters and can't wait to read more from this author. Enjoy!

This is the first book I have read by Patricia Rushford. The twists and turns of the plot are unexpected and make the book nearly impossible to put down. Our news is full of incidents where police officers are asked to face horrible accident and crime scenes. This author is skilled at communicating the private thoughts, feelings and struggles of our first responders. We don't take time to tell them how much we appreciate their sacrifices nearly enough. My thanks to the author.

Angel Delaney grew up with male siblings and a police officer father, forcing her to hide her hurts and be tough. As a police officer she is forced to use deadly force, then has to deal with all of the emotion, suspicion, and media circus that goes with that. The best part about the suspense is the personal life that goes with it. You feel Angel's heart--her hurt and her concern for other people. Angel is forced to deal with her past in order to move forward in her life. She shows compassion for the ones who have hurt her. And the ending is not what you would expect. A good read.
