This volume on Proverbs has the unique feature of not approaching the Biblical text in an exclusively chronological fashion. It is primarily verse by verse, but various verses are arranged under single topics (e.g. "The Proud" or "Parental Discipline"). You will find much in Proverbs that concern matters as practical as raising children and teaching good table manners and as timely as gossip and corrupt business practices.

Practical wisdom on the book of wisdom.
Date:November 4, 2011
I purchased this volume for a seminary homiletics class in which we were required to preach from Proverbs. The professor had noticed that the majority of his students over the years had seldom if ever preached from this OT wisdom book. I had never preached from Proverbs myself, so I was anxious to explore this portion of the Hebrew Bible. Aitken's commentary was recommended by the professor and a classmate. I found this volume a valuable addition to my studies, providing a very practical and profound alternative to more technical, exegetical commentaries. The introduction alone is full of little sagacious nuggets, just like the book of Proverbs! Highly recommended for preachers and teachers.
