Customer Reviews for Tyndale House Publishers, Inc. She's Got Issues: Seriously Good News for Stressed-Out, Secretly Scared Control Freaks Like Us - eBook
I've got issues. You've got issues. We've all got issues. And guess what? It's normal! What's not normal is to continue living with our issues once we come to the realization that we've got them. In She's Got Issues by Nicole Unice, the author helps us to recognize our issues. Whether is be an issue with comparing ourselves to others or being insecure, she gives great advice on what each issue looks like in a person's life, as well as how to begin steps on how to overcome them. Her writing style is comfortable and non-judgmental, as if she's our best friend having a heart-to-heart chat with us. No matter what our issues are, she gently informs us on how our issues are negatively affecting us and others around us and ultimately she guides back to the One who created us. She shows the reader how to put our faith, trust, and insecurities in God and let go of all of our issues.
I really enjoyed reading this book. It's full of great information and was very enlightening to me. I have struggled with insecurity and comparison as two of my main issues for as long as I can remember. By reading this book, Nicole has helped me understand how detrimental these issues are for me and how vital it is for me to over come them. The first step was admitting to myself that I did indeed possess these issues and this was a ton easier to do after reading Nicole's accounts of her own issues. The book has many stories based on Nicole's counseling sessions with numerous women who had issues too. The need for authenticity among women is crucial nowadays. If we aren't authentic then we will feel isolated; as if we are the only one who struggles with these issues. If only we knew just how many women have the same struggles we do! Once we overcome our own issues, we then can start to help others to overcome theirs! This book would be great for any woman, young or old!

Review 2 for She's Got Issues: Seriously Good News for Stressed-Out, Secretly Scared Control Freaks Like Us - eBook
She’s Got Issues by Nicole Unice is the latest book I’ve received from Tyndale for reviewing.
And let me start by saying I don’t like the title.
To me, the phrase brings to mind people who struggle with particular, non-universal problems. And that isn’t who this book is really about.
It’s about the areas of struggle that are common to almost all of us in one way or another. All of the little things of our daily lives that we battle with that seem small on their own, but add together to keep us from really being changed by being a Christian.
It goes through different areas, and includes different quizzes to evaluate where you might need to consider things in your life.
But not all of these are going to be obvious. Quite a few may have different ways that they would show themselves that you wouldn’t really think would apply to you at first glance.
For example, you may not have issues with control as in trying to control other people, or being obsessive about trying to control things in life... but there’s also another side of the coin, in being overly avoiding of control and feeling like you don’t have control over life, that things are mostly up to chance.
I was sort of surprised on how many chapters I figured wouldn’t relate, only to read through and find that they really did in ways I wouldn’t have expected.
But really... not a fan of the title. It doesn’t really go where the book goes, but it also makes it a book that’s a lot less likely to be picked up or purchased (or even read in a place where other people can see the title) by the people that the book really aims for, bogged down by the accumulation of the smaller struggles in everyday life rather than battling a particular “large” issue.

Review 3 for She's Got Issues: Seriously Good News for Stressed-Out, Secretly Scared Control Freaks Like Us - eBook
"Seriously good news for stressed-out, secretly scared control freaks like us"
"Standing on my porch with a dish towel on one shoulder and a burp cloth on the other, I knew in the deepest part of my soul that this could not be the 'life to the full' that Jesus promised".
Nicole Unice is a Christian counselor, ministry leader, and mom. She lets us know plenty about where she's been and how she came to bring this book to life. She helps us understand where she's coming from, which in turn lets you feel more comfortable when reading the book, almost like she right there talking with you one-on-one. She explains about who you are, a King or a Pawn; groups in which control, or lack of, places us. Surprisingly, I wasn't the one I thought I was! There are different, dare I say, fractures, layers, to what makes one a King or Pawn. She helps us figure out why we are the way we are, what got us there, what happens while we are there, and how to deal with it. Not necessarily how to stop or 'fix' it, but how to control it to better suit our needs. And we have the access to the power of Jesus Christ to help us through it!
This 14 chapter (great for study groups) book will walk you through a part of your life that you had no idea needed tweaking.

Review 4 for She's Got Issues: Seriously Good News for Stressed-Out, Secretly Scared Control Freaks Like Us - eBook
She’s Got Issues by Nicole Unice is a good Bible Study for individuals or groups. It helps women understand if they do have issues and what they are. We all have them at one time or another and the author helps the reader understand how to deal with them. She addresses control, insecurity, comparisons, fear, and anger. Mrs. Unice gives students a prayer, a journaling exercise, and topics for group discussion with each chapter. There are also QR codes to snap with your smart phone for more.
I’m the women’s ministries director and pastor’s wife at our church. I’m sincerely looking forward to doing this study with my ladies. We DO all have issues in these areas at some time or another. The devil really likes to hit women there. I wanted to get moved to our new church before I had to review this study so I could let my readers know how it is as a group study. Unfortunately, that just didn’t happen. I will be reviewing this again after my ladies and I go through it together.

Review 5 for She's Got Issues: Seriously Good News for Stressed-Out, Secretly Scared Control Freaks Like Us - eBook
Secure women are beautiful, powerful women because of their deep ability to love—not because they do it perfectly, but because they are loved by a perfect God. In her book, Nicole Unice writes how Jesus wants us to demonstrate what “life to the full” means, yet our own story is deeply affected by issues as ultimately life happens and pain does not discriminate. We hope the promise of abundant life is attainable, but we keep stubbing our toes on obstacles and issues that we don’t know how to change; issues that kill our ability to love powerfully and unconditionally. Yet, healing is closer at hand once you recognize your need for it.
If you have ever wondered whether life lived with God can really change you, then Nicole welcomes you to journey through the pages of this book. She writes, as you accept your status as His beloved even in your mess, you can live His love with issues. Realizing you can’t fix yourself comes with a posturing of your heart toward God through the practice of surrender and true humility that in every circumstance says, God, I need help. It’s about trusting Him to shape your life and fashion you into exactly the woman He intends. To follow Jesus is to agree to change. In those private moments of surrender, we become strengthened for the public arena of our influence, and the result is a sweet freedom.
But God won’t force His way in. He won’t make you choose Him. He leaves this, the most important aspect of your life, up to you. Change is real and God is ready. Are you?
After reading Nicole’s book and gleaning from the pages of her heart, I have been able to deal with issues in my own life and bring them to the surface, surrendering them totally to God by use of the practical applications she offers in her book and DVD group experience. From the realness of life’s issues shared by women face-to-face on the DVD and the times of reflection and journaling taught in her book as well as the discussions by Nicole at the end of every chapter so readily available on my computer, I had everything essential to my success and you will too. This book and DVD curriculum offer all you need for a group setting except, of course, some delicious refreshments and a comfy couch! I would recommend this book and DVD to any group of women who are ready to choose growth and are challenged to succeed because, as Nicole sweetly states, it’s built into the fiber of our souls to be reborn into Christ and to keep in step with His Spirit within us. It’s not the easy path, but it’s the dynamic, holy, and beautiful one!

Review 6 for She's Got Issues: Seriously Good News for Stressed-Out, Secretly Scared Control Freaks Like Us - eBook
Enough about me, let’s talk about you. What do you think of me? – C.C. Bloom, Beaches
The above quote is from the book She’s Got Issues, in chapter five entitled “Insidious Insecurity” which I believe is a good way to sum up the issues that many women face today.
Author, Nicole Unice in the book and DVD brings to light the issue of insecurity, as well as others such as comparisons, fear, anger, and unforgiveness. She also warns about the damage they will do to our relationships with Christ, our families and our lives, if left unchecked. Using Scriptures from the Bible, that author lays a good foundation on how to deal with these peace-stealers and how to enjoy God’s presence while also restoring our joy in the everyday, mundane things in life. The same things, that may have become triggers for our issues. Small groups will be in for treat using the book along with the DVD Group experience. In the DVD, Nicole and her friends bravely share their own experiences with control, insecurity, fear, anger and unforgiveness and the negative effects of that behavior, and how it can spill over into the lives of the ones we love.
Highly Recommended. She’s Got Issues book and DVD Curriculum will be an enjoyable and refreshingly new way for women to face and discuss the tough issues facing women of all ages, cultures, and backgrounds. I encourage getting the curriculum for yourself or for small discussion groups.

Review 7 for She's Got Issues: Seriously Good News for Stressed-Out, Secretly Scared Control Freaks Like Us - eBook
I was so excited to interview Nicole Unice at the launch of her first traditionally published book, She’s Got Issues: Seriously Good News for the Stressed-out, Secretly Scared Control Freaks Like Us. I wanted to read and post a book review right away, but I also took three classes this summer. Reality has set in and I have read 19 school books (and they are not small) since I posted Nicole’s interview in June. So I publicly apologize to Nicole and Tyndale for my delay in reviewing.
In the book, Nicole uses her counseling, ministry, and personal experiences to address the top five issues that affect women—control, insecurity, comparisons, fear, and anger (which also includes unforgiveness). In her writing, Nicole draws on the truths of scripture without brow beating or being preachy. She breaks down these very serious topics and puts them in the face of scripture in a manner that is digestible for the reader.
The one thing Nicole desires is that we confront our issues. But to confront our issues, anyone who has ever attended an AA meeting with tell you, “You have to first admit you have a problem.” We all have a sin problem and that problem hurts us individually and it hurts the people around us. If you are wondering whether or not you have issues, take a hard look at the health of your relationships. In the Bible, James writes, “What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from your desires that battle within you? You want something but don’t get it. You kill and covet, but you can’t have what you want. You quarrel and fight. You do not have, because you do not ask God. When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures (James 4:1-3).”
So there you have it. Our sin distorts our motives, our relationship with God, and our relationship with others. Nicole challenges the reader to confront our issues (or sins) by seeking God and developing spiritual disciplines. In addition to providing practical strategies, the book contains guided prayers, journal exercises, and group discussion questions.
Which leads to my DVD review: It is my opinion that practical helps are most successful when affirmed in the context of a community. It is much easier to change your eating habits, lose weight, workout, stick to a diet, or accomplish any practical life goals once you have 1.) publicly confessed your desires and plans and 2.) asked someone to encourage you and help you work that plan. This is the importance of trusted small groups and friends.
Nicole has outlined the DVD in such away that friends, small groups, or book clubs can gather for 1 ½ hours of intimacy. The group sessions begin with Nicole’s one-on-one session with a woman who is bold enough to publicly acknowledge and confront her issue. Then there is a [break] or pause segment to allow time for personal reflection and journaling. Nicole then closes and a teaching session on the topic. This format makes things easy for a group facilitator.
The DVD and book together make a perfect pair. I smiled while reading the “She’s Got Issues Creed” at the end of the book. We all need to hold our issues loosely and hold this creed close to our hearts. If you want to know what it is, you have to pick up the book. Are you ready to confront your issues?

Review 9 for She's Got Issues: Seriously Good News for Stressed-Out, Secretly Scared Control Freaks Like Us - eBook
Nicole is a gifted author, Christian counselor and youth leader who shares her struggles with control, insecurity, comparison, fear and anger (along with unforgiveness). In her experience, she has found that these "issues" seem to be common among most women and this book/study was written to help the reader live in victory vs defeat. The book includes 14 chapters that can be read by itself or can be used along with the 6-session DVD. As mentioned before the topics range from dealing with fear and anger to giving up control. Each chapter concludes with a prayer and heart probing questions with space to journal as well as a link to bonus youtube videos.
In the first chapter- Cheap Plastic Souls, the following questions really struck home, "If the grocery store cashier or your kid's teacher or the last waiter who served you described you with complete honesty, would loving be there first word he or she would use? Or would you be known by something else..." I have been challenged with the fact that so many well-meaning Christians don't exude true biblical love-love according to Luke 10:27, Matt 22:37-39, 1 Corinthians 13:4-7. This has been part of my sanctification - striving to understand and praying about how this looks in one's everyday life.

Review 10 for She's Got Issues: Seriously Good News for Stressed-Out, Secretly Scared Control Freaks Like Us - eBook
Nicole Unice has written a book that every woman should read. "She's Got Issues" strips away the veneer of perfection we all cling to, revealing the unique, complicated beauty that we all bear. Most refreshing, Nicole shares her own struggles with 'good girl-ness'. Her own personal testimony just adds to the impact of the book.
Topics tackled within the pages are very familiar, at least to me: insecurity, control, and the incessant need to compare myself to just about anyone and everyone I meet. Each chapter is packed with Scripture, closes with a prayer (Nicole calls these "Space Bar"s, and has a few questions for you to journal and/or discuss in a small group.
One of the most unique features is a smartphone code at the end of each chapter that links you to videos from Nicole about what you've just read. I used my iPod to access a few, and they truly add an extra dimension to the book! Technology...isn't it just amazing these days!
I received a copy of "She's Got Issues" from Tyndale Publishing in exchange for an honest review, and I honestly believe this is a valuable resource for women of all ages. In fact, pass this one along to some of the younger women in your circle of influence. If they can get the message early on...oh, the freedom they will walk in! Recommended.

Review 11 for She's Got Issues: Seriously Good News for Stressed-Out, Secretly Scared Control Freaks Like Us - eBook
What are your biggest challenges? Do you have issues? How do others see you? How do you see yourself? This book focuses in depth on 5 main issues that most women struggle with, along with helpful suggestions and explainations written in a counselor's voice. Women's stories and authors included are brought into the chapters to show how others can identify with the issues being presented and what they have gone through. Also how Jesus fits into all of our issues and challenges (short comings). Included are personal assessments and self evaluation questions with group answers, prayers and topics for group discussions.
The target audience is women. Some chapters I was able to relate to, others not so much. Each reader can pick and choose which issues, or all of them, she feels needs addressing in her life. The assessment questions were beneficial in addressing my issues. I found this to be a very faith inspiring book and would recommend this book to others.

Review 12 for She's Got Issues: Seriously Good News for Stressed-Out, Secretly Scared Control Freaks Like Us - eBook
Ha ~ I was so excited when this book arrived in the mail. I could not wait to read it~ after all I am real sure at my age I have figured out just what issues I carry in my pocketbook. My son looks at the book on the counter and says, "Mom~ why do you have this book?" Now if you get my point~ I took it as a great compliment but as we all know ~ we all have issues.
Sometimes we have trouble forgiving. At times we may feel like God gave us a raw deal when our dreams fall apart. Once in a while our tempers get the best of us and ugly spews out of our mouth before we can say "Damage." Sometimes we have trouble dealing with past hurts and difficult people. Sometimes we are the difficult people.
When we fail to see and address our issues they just become who we are~ feeling comfortable like an old pair of shoes.
When all else fails~ we try to "fix" the broken parts of us in our strength~ until the next time our issue bubbles up once again.
Are you ready to address your issues? I dare you to read the book.
We in reality have the power of Christ that can transform our weakness into strength.
This is a great book and I highly recommend it! The book includes quizzes and personal assessment tools.

Review 13 for She's Got Issues: Seriously Good News for Stressed-Out, Secretly Scared Control Freaks Like Us - eBook
So often, the real everyday issues that women face often take a backseat to the bigger issues and complexities of life. This book helps bring a fresh perspective to the challenges that many women face on a daily basis. Nicole Unice brings to the light issues that many women are reluctant to talk about because it might put a crack in the perfect armor that we try to wear. Drawing on a number of Scripture passages, she really helps draw the reader back to a biblical understanding of topics such as control, anxiety, fear, anger, and unforgiveness. It's a great book to go through slowly on your own, but would be even better to go slowly through it with a small group to really digest the book and find accountability as you begin to deal with your own issues. What a treat to read this book!

Review 14 for She's Got Issues: Seriously Good News for Stressed-Out, Secretly Scared Control Freaks Like Us - eBook
Every woman has issues, yet most of us have difficulty admitting it. Maybe we aren’t aware of our issues; maybe we’re ashamed of them; maybe we don’t think they could ever go away. In She’s Got Issues, Nicole Unice lays bare the five and a half issues faced by most women (Control, Insecurity, Comparison, Fear, Anger and its cousin Unforgiveness) and challenges us to get real about our problems. I didn’t expect to relate so much to this book, but I found myself being challenged chapter after chapter. Issues that I had accepted as normal or that I was afraid to uncover, such as Comparison and Insecurity, were faced head-on. Reading Nicole’s writing was like having a heart-to-heart with an understanding but honest friend. She encouraged me but also dared me to rise above my issues. Until reading this book, I didn’t think my issues had any major effects. I didn’t think I could truly change them, so I figured I needed to learn to cope instead. Nicole shows how our issues hold us back from living and loving the way God intended. Each chapter is filled with humor, insight, practicality, and applicable Scriptures. Nicole’s writing style makes the book appealing to women of all ages. A “Space Bar,” with journal space and questions, sparks deeper thought and concludes each chapter. Although I disagreed with the author on some things, I still give She’s Got Issues 4 out of 5 stars and recommend it to any woman ready to tackle her own issues.
I received this book from the publisher for free in exchange for my review.

Review 15 for She's Got Issues: Seriously Good News for Stressed-Out, Secretly Scared Control Freaks Like Us - eBook
I had never heard of Nicole Unice before but something about the introduction and summary of this book made me want to read it. I am so glad that I did! This book is about how many of us try to live a good Christian life but the same issues, that have tormented us for years, try to keep us from living life to the fullest. These issues include insecurity, fear, comparison, anger and control. Nicole explains these issues in a very relatable way. She also includes quizzes, prayers and other self-assessment tools such as journaling exercises and group discussion questions. I found these tools to be helpful and think that this book would make an excellent small group study or a study to do on your own. Nicole will be releasing a DVD curriculum in September 2012 that would be perfect for small groups.
I am so glad that I choose to review this book as it really spoke to me. I enjoyed Nicole’s style of writing as I felt like I was sitting with a friend who really knew me and what I was going through. Many times I found myself re-reading a sentence because it was like a light bulb went off when I read it. This book also served as a gentle reminder of things that I know but so often overlook. I definitely recommend this book.

Nicole has done an amazing job in writing this book. We all have issues and I am learning to "own my issues". The more control I relinquish to God the more prosperous my life is becoming!!! I have learned I cannot control life or life's circumstances. I release it all to Christ and am learning what it feels like to walk by faith! I highly recommend this book to all women get on board and Own Your Issues!!!
