Precious Memories Ed. Basic Winston Grammar Set
Understanding traditional grammar is a necessary skill for any person in any age! The Winston Grammar Program doesn't follow the traditional approach, but instead has created an innovative course that focuses on using color-coded cards and workbook exercises, through which students learn nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, prepositional phrases, coordinating conjunctions, interjections, nouns of direct address, subjects, direct and indirect objects, and appositives through moving, seeing, hearing, and speaking! 1 Teacher's Manual, 69 pages, plus worksheet answers, softcover. Student's Workbook, 30 worksheets plus post and pre tests, perforated, non-reproducible pages. 8 big noun function cards and 42 smaller cue cards, all color-coded. All elements come in a Velcro-closure, clear vinyl case.
The teacher's guide accompanies each page in the included student workbook with a list and picture of the cards used; the concepts under discussion; directions for using the cards; a possible script; model lesson; important information; quiz options; suggested problems; and concepts students should make sure they know. Worksheet instructions and answers are also provided in the teacher's guide. The student workbook features the practice sentences students will use to identify the parts of speech, as well as a pre-test and post-test. The color-coded cards help instruct students on the parts of speech, what they do, and how to identify them as they work their way through a sentence.

I bought the basic set plus an extra workbook and cards to use with my 6th grader and 3rd grader. I like the cards a lot, and they seem to really help with my 6th grader who is more of a hands-on learner. We tried another grammar program last year where she identified and marked parts of speech, and she detested it. The color coded cards with clues printed on them is a huge help, and is like a mini-review built into the cards. She likes this system MUCH better, and does it without complaining. I'm so glad I chose this program. I plan to get the supplemental set to practice over the summer, and the advanced set as well.

We have been homeschooling our daughter since grade 5. We are now in grade 8.
Grammar has always been our biggest struggle. We have tried many different programs, ideas and ways of teaching and none have communicated the basic foundations of grammar as clearly Winston. We are so happy to have found Winston, grammar is not such a dreaded lesson anymore.

I am really pleased with this program. The textbook approach I was using with my oldest just wasn't a good fit for my 2nd son. This program has helped him break sentences down to see how the words work together. Love the cards! Using the cards helps him focus on each word by itself before marking up the sentence in the workbook. There is no way this son would have ever been happy with all the diagramming. But we're accomplishing the same thing in a fun way for him. Grammar is one of the things he asks to do first because he likes it now.

This program is well thought out and easy to use. My high school age son is using it to brush up on his grammar skills. Unlike other programs we have tried this one , though basic. is not too young for a 15 year old.

I bought this curriculum with some trepidation since there doesn't seem to be much detail about the workings of it. Everything seems vague and I just wasn't getting the understanding of it from what I was reading. However, a friend of mine suggested that it was like the Montessori grammar so I thought I'd try it. I'm glad I did! I asked each of my kids what they thought about it after a few weeks working in the book (ages are 16, 14, 11) All of them said they enjoy learning grammar this way. I am so pleased! Thank you for a great way to learn something that can feel like a heavy weight!

I was homeschooled back in the 80's before it was the thing to do. My brothers and I used the WG basic set to learn parts of speech and when we entered public school in 6th grade, we were far beyond our peers in our ability to analyze the English language. I went on to major in French and Spanish in college, got my MA in Applied Linguistics and now teach ESL. The foundation I got as a child doing the Winston Grammar program has been very valuable in my studies of foreign languages and for going on to understand more complex grammar analysis of English. My oldest is only in kindergarten, but I am already planning on purchasing this set to use with her when she is older.

If you like playing games and painless learning, then this is the program for you. Kids use cards to learn and review parts of speech while parsing sentences. Lessons begin with basics and proceed steadily. I recommend writing sentences on a white board in the beginning. The best program I have ever seen!

This is a very good source for teaching basic grammar. As a home-school mother I like the all inclusive concept and the ease of storage vinyl case. I had hoped the flashcards were easier to follow and understand for the student but I would still recommend this as a grammar "teaching option".

I am a student that is learning with the Winston Grammar Program and it is great! All grammar is boring at some point, but this is also very fun! I like the fact that it is so unique from other grammar programs.

This is an outstanding grammar program. I am using it with our 6th graders at our Homeschool Co-op and they are having an excellent time using this curriculum. Using the cards to parse out the sentences is an excellent method, and one that they all enjoy and "Get!"

Wonderful refresher for high school and had I known about it, I would have used it in the primary grades as well. A wonderful product to help a child understand grammar. Highly recommend this - it would be especially helpful for a parent who is also weak in grammar.

This program works! It is easy to teach, use of the cards really helps your hands on learner, and the built in review of every concept really helps fix the concepts. My kids used this over 2 years, just a few minutes per day. We are moving on the advanced set now.

I have been very pleased with this product. Using the cards with the lessons helps my tactile learner understand how to find and remember the parts of speech. We had tried other curricula and she just didn't understand grammar, but now she does! Also, the vinyl case is sturdy and helpful in keeping the materials neat and together.

This is an enjoyable and effective program!!! The scripted text for teacher/parent, the hands-on cards for students, and the simple progression of skills made this one subject we found easy to use and succeed at.We used this for students from 6th to 8th grade, including one who struggled greatly with reading and writing.

Finally a grammar program that worked for us! I used this program with my 2 kids (5th and 7th grades) They were really able to grasp the concepts being taught and by the end of the year were excelling! We will be using the advanced program next!
