Customer Reviews for Westminster John Knox Press New Testament Words

Westminster John Knox Press New Testament Words

This volume represents an attempt to take certain great New Testament words and to find out what these words meant to the writers of the New Testament and to those who read and heard their message for the first time. To do that means seeking to trace the meaning of these words in classical Greek, in the Septuagint, where they occur and in Hellenistic Greek. It includes all the words (nearly 70) originally explained in the author's A New Testament Wordbook and More New Testament Words. The index provides access, using either Greek and English, to every mention of these words in Barclay's 17-volume Daily Study Bible.

This is a scholarly yet practical work on basic Greek words of the New Testament. It is a trememdous help in sermon preparation and in preparing Sunday School lessons. I highly recommend this book for the experienced Pastor as well as for the beginner.

I have been an regular user Barclay's New Testament Words since over 30 years. Written for the pastor and teacher, not the Greek scholar, it cuts to the heart of the meanings of the words he presents. I have found little in the more scholarly works to contradict his clear, concise and practical exegesis. Highly recommended.

I would like the volumes that were published during the 1950's
