This little book is a challenge to read, and it must be read thoughtfully and slowly. The challenge was to the limits we put on God; the box we put God in because of the limits of our human understanding. We cannot fathom His power, His love, His knowledge, His conquest and defeat of Sin & Death. But once that is realized, that He is beyond our limited understanding, then we can accept the limitless love that was born in Bethlehem to save us; and like St. Paul, we "get" it.

This is a classic work that should be read by all. Phillips masterfully describes the usual traps our minds have fallen into with skewed pictures of God. Then he helps us see God as He truly is.

A classic. And still invaluable as a tool for approaching the issue of the Christian God, without resorting to scriptural citations.

"Your God Is Too Small" by J.B Phillips is a bit difficult to get through because of the old-fashioned language, but gaining an understanding of the fallacies we choose to believe about God is well worth the effort required to read this book. The key to completion is to read only one concept at a time, and to completely understand the text before moving on. I frequently found my mind drifting, but stopped when I realized what was happening and re-read the passage. Thankfully the "chapters" are short, so re-reading is not too great an effort. And the rewards reaped are worth it - a greater understanding of God.
