I was very disappointed - because in the book the little boy - learns to talk to God from his cousin. In the movie - not once was even God's name memtioned. If this is supposed to be a christian movie - don't you think that reference to God should at least be made.
I suggest that if you are going to call it Christian - that you must include God, Jesus Christ, Prayer - something that related "relationship" with God, the Bible, something???
Again, I was very disappointed..

Since I’ve started sharing more Christian based films with others, I’ve also been more persistent in viewing/searching for them too; I even like talking to my local Christian bookstore about them. One day I talked to someone locally about looking for a film I could watch with my wife and Like Dandelion Dust was suggested to me. I picked up a copy and was hoping this would be really good so I could show this to my wife and others. What I was expecting to be a Christian film, however, wasn’t actually a Christian film…
Like Dandelion Dust is an intense drama about a custody battle for a 6-year-old named Joey. Joey’s biological parents want him back with them in Ohio, and out of the hands of his current adoptive parents in Florida. CPS tells the adoptive parents that the biological parents have the right to take him back, because the biological father’s signature for the adoption agreement was forged thus making the original agreement invalid. Pain, heart-break, anger, and desperation are some of the many emotions which stir within this controversial situation. Will the Campbell family, Joey’s adoptive parents, somehow manage to hang onto Joey? Or will Rip Porter and his girlfriend Wendy regain the custody they desire?
You’re probably confused on why I would say that this is not a Christian film. I’ll save much of my thoughts for my YouTube channel (warning the video WILL contain spoilers), but the primary reason why is because it does not have any Christian inspiration. The movie certainly does show a very difficult life situation, however it does not give the viewer any answer to it, through anything Christian based, despite giving the characters the opportunity to do so. Not even just that, I did a little research and have heard this is quite watered down in comparison to the book; specifically in the mentioning of God. It’s one thing if this movie was conveyed to me as being simply a family friendly alternative to a secular drama, but I protest at the idea of a film being painted as being “Christian based” when in actuality it’s not… Don’t get me wrong, the acting was great and there wasn’t any swearing, but those are the only positives I can give this movie… I do not recommend this movie, I regret my purchase, and even if this were to have been presented as a mere family friendly alternative there are better films I could recommend…

Like Dandelion Dust is a good movie, although sad at times. It is not for young children because of some of the content, but is a definitely good movie for people of older ages.

What is a movie like this doing on a christian site? There is NOTHING christian about it whatsoever, God has been blotted out. The plot ends up OK, but why can't the makers of movies eliminate the bar scenes, alcohol, dancing in bars, smoking, seems they cannot make a movie without putting the trash in there. If I want to watch a guy dancing sleazily in a bar with his wife...I can get that anywhere. How disgusting. I can watch 99 other non-christian movies and enjoy it more than this one. It's painful, stripped of christian values except a scene of them sitting in a church in one scene. I watched it, will never watch it again nor recommend it. Certainly nothing for a church youth group or my kids to view. VERY DISAPPOINTING.

I love Karen Kingsbury's books but was VERY disappointed in this movie. This was not a Christian movie like the book. GOD was completely removed from the movie and the Christians in the movie were made out to be terrible, unloving and self-serving. This was a big disappointment. I wanted to use this movie as a witnessing tool for my unbelieving family members but realized after watching it, they would get nothing out of it except how bad the Christians were portrayed. SAD!

I'm sorry to say, even though the acting in this movie was believable and well done. I did not like the movie. I am a mom. After my daughter was over the age of 18, she was adopted without my knowledge, which is perfectly legal in the state I'm in. Why she did this, I'm uncertain. Other than her not having a father figure in the house. This movie although true in some situations, was very painful for me to watch, and I'm sorry to say, I will not ever watch it again. I feel for any mother that must go through a situation like this, and I do understand that in a situation like in this movie is a very difficult decision, knowing Joey had a better life with a family that wasn't truly his by birth, but they were more capable of giving him what he needed. It would of been more of a blessing, than him not getting that. But so difficult for the birth mother to give him up.

I haven't read the book that this movie was based on, so I can only comment on the movie itself. I thought it was well done. The acting was believable and I loved the message. Parents (both adoptive and biological) would do just about anything for their child. Now, having done a ton of adoptions myself (I was like the social worker in the movie) I felt that the premise was a bit far fetched. Most states would not allow a situation like that to occur, so I can only assume that Ohio law was researched in this case to make such a situation legally plausible. In Arizona, where I live, that scenario wouldn't happen. There are too many laws to prevent such a messed up situation from happening. Now if Joey had been a foster child and not yet adopted, that would be a different situation.
Regardless, this movie tugs at the heartstrings and for me the message was good that birth mothers who place their children for adoption are "loving them enough to let them go" like the actress in the movie stated toward the end. Having worked with a lot of birth mothers in similar situations I can say that scene was very believable. It's hard, but rewarding to know that the birth mother did the right thing. She may have been with an abusive man, but she was still strong in her own way. She made choices, and her choice was to stay with him. I've seen that happen over and over as well. That said, I appreciated how the movie resolved at the end and how things were handled. And that poor social worker... I felt for her. She had a situation that was very hard to deal with, but she handled it well. I appreciated that, too. Sometimes it's a thankless job to be the one caught in the middle of custody situations. Been there, done that.
Overall, this movie was worth seeing, in my opinion. I really enjoyed it even if it did make me cry as expected. But then again, I haven't read the book to compare the two. I don't know how close the novel was to the movie, so I can't comment on that. The spiritual message in the story was weak, but I'm not surprised. On the flip side, it's good to show that people who aren't Christians love their children enough to sacrifice for them, too. And this adoptive couple was willing to give up everything. That showed their heart for their child, even if their way of handling things was misguided. Desperate people aren't rational.

Skip the movie and read the book! The book is so wonderful - but the movie takes all the gospel and Christ-centeredness out of the story.

Makes you stop and think about what you would do if faced with the same situation. The unselfish giving up of a child because you love them can address the issue of abortion and the giving of Christ by his Father. Well worth the money spent.

As is typical of movies made from books this one didn't follow the book. However, it was well done in promoting healthy relationships and the advocacy for adoption was well done.

Was very disappointed in this movie. Was advertised in many Christian venues but was not a "Christian" movie. Hallmark, maybe but not Christian. In fact, the Christian family was made to look bad because the female leads' sister did the legal moral thing which could have hurt the heroes (lead actor and actress that were about to break the law). I guess it just did not meet my expectations since it was advertised in every Christian venue that I mull through.

I was very disappointed in this movie. Perhaps I had too big of expectation.... but the gospel was not given, I kept waiting for God to show up, for someone to cry out to Him.
It never happened....He is THE answer to all life's problems
and the movie did not tell that.

Karen's book is so much better than the movie. I was disappointed that the movie lacked the Christian relationship with God. In fact, God is hardly mentioned except by the character's sister and her idea of going to church. The ending was good with both moms realizing what is best for the little boy. Not a tear jerker like her book.

Although I have never read the book by this title, the movie was a huge disappointment. I was expecting it to be Christ-centered. Instead, it put the Christian sister, her husband, and children in a bad light. The movies associated with the Downes brothers have in the past been Christ-centered - they missed an opportunity to share the gospel and the power of prayer.
