Zondervan Old Testament Hebrew Vocabulary Cards

These flashcards are keyed to lessons in the four leading Hebrew grammars (Pratico/Van Pelt, Futato, Ross, and Seow) and allow you to quiz yourself on Hebrew vocabulary . Each card has a frequency number, and includes unusual forms of verbs. Cards 1-979 contain all words that occur 30 or more times (except proper names) and cards 980-1,000 contain select proper names and words occurring less than 30 times. These cards are part of the Zondervan Vocabulary Builder Series.

The only thing I would change is to make the paper a little heavier. They are hard to separate as thin as they are, and are more like paper than card stock.

If you are taking Hebrew, then these cards are a must have.
One thing that helps is to hole punch the cards and put the ones you are trying to learn on a key chain.
The Cards are thick, high quality and do the job
Be Encouraged:-)

The actual cards are quite helpful to review and practice the Hebrew we are trying to learn. The font is clear, the definitions are easy to read, and the format is practical. However, it would have been very helpful to include some sort of index or guide to help find the specific cards we need. Even if we were using one of the texts keyed to the cards (which we are not), it would have been difficult to find the correct cards for each chapter, because it would still be necessary to thumb through all 1000 cards to find the ones for each chapter. (Though then we would at least have the chapter number on the card to verify that it is the correct card.) As it is, I have to look through all 1000 cards to find the cards I need for each chapter, or even to verify whether the specific card I want is or is not included. Since I can read much faster in English than in Hebrew, I use the English side of the cards to find a card with the same English word I want, then check the Hebrew side to make sure it is the same word (sometimes it is not). On the plus side, I have picked up a few Hebrew words just looking for the one I want. Once I have the cards sorted by chapter, it will be much easier. Since I am learning Hebrew alongside my homeschooled son (just a chapter or two ahead of him), it is worth the effort to sort the cards into snack sized ziplock bags by chapter. I am also noting the card number in the textbook beside the first appearance of each word, so that in 4-5 years when I go through this again with my daughter it will be easier to find the cards.

very helpful. I liked how they were ordered according to frequency, rather than the textbook order. Its the best way to review and learn vocabulary.

One of the best Hebrew-learning resources ever! If you learn all these cards, and then use the Reader's Hebrew Bible (also from this site), you will be reading the Bible in Hebrew with no outside helps needed. I know, I used them, and I'm there, and now my children are learning them too! I highly recommend this product. While a Hebrew grammer is desirable, you will pick up many of the basics (tense, person, etc) just by learning this vocabulary of these flashcards and reading and applying what you know. This product goes well in conjunction with the Reader's Hebrew Bible and also Pratico and Van Pelt's Hebrew Grammer (all of which I have obtained here on this site). Success comes with hard work!

Overall quite useful once they are reordered. Given that these cards are intended to be used with Basics of Biblical Hebrew by Van Pelt and Pratico it would have been nicer if the cards were ordered by chapter rather than frequency. The frequency numbers also do not always match those used in the BBH (2nd Edition) book.

The cards are a very good product for learning to read biblical Hebrew. The previous user's review seemed to complain for the wrong reasons. She should purchase a word list if that is what she wants. She can place them in alphabetical order if she wants. Furthermore, if a beginning student depends upon transliterated forms, he normally will never wean of them. The cards are not miracle workers! The fault lies not in the stars...

I personally did not like the flash cards. I would prefer if there was at list of the words, so you could easily find what you are looking for. They are not even in alphabetical order. For a new student learning Hebrew, it would also be nice to have the Hebrew transliteration of the word. The meaning of the Hebrew word in English on the other side of the card is very small. I was disappointed.
