First of all, my 4 year old told me after the first viewing that he didn't like it. He has very good discernment what spiritual things are concerned. I didn't take the time to watch all of it before he did but my husband just pointed out to me that they are teaching in this DVD what "various Christians" believe. Well, honestly, I have to be harsh and say "I don't care what all kinds of Christians believe" about creation, what I do care about is that you teach our children what the bible says and stop getting into evolution and all kinds of human believes. When the bible states that God created the earth in 6 days and on the 7th day he rested, then say so and teach that truth from the bible to our kids and don't include all sorts of beliefs from various groups. What do we have the bible for as the infallible word of God if you throw in all sorts of other theories? Just stick to what God has already written down for us in His word. I am not going to buy any more of this series as I cannot trust that the author had in mind to teach our children the truths from the bible. If he is comprising the bible, then this is not good enough for my children to watch and be brainwashed with. I am sending this back and I am deeply disappointed with the author of this series.

I have been delighted to see deep foundational truths of the Scripture along with application presented in a very fun and entertaining way. I also really appreciate how it has been presented in a way that points to and highlights the gospel throughout all of the DVDs in the series that I have seen thus far. (We only have 6 DVDs at present.) In regards to a previous reviewer having a concern that it may be over some children's heads; I think that is certainly a possibility, but that does not mean that it is not good for children to be exposed to deeper theological teaching. The Bible and the gospel itself are simple yet so very far from simplistic. I think this series tries to follow that pattern of simplicity at one level yet also introducing information that people may normally not be exposed to, except in a seminary, in order to challenge and enrich us and very often kids can surprise us on what they can learn!

My kids have watched this quite a bit, but my husband and I enjoyed watching it too. I can't think of any other kids DVD that uses the word "Septuagint" and in such an entertaining way. All four of my kids (age 3-10) love watching this. I wouldn't say it is "over their heads". They each like different parts and characters. I really appreciate the way bits of important theology are woven into fun stories and songs. And that Genesis song is really snappy!

I love, love, love Veggie Tales. (who could make stories about vegetables with no arms lovable?) And I love these stories as well. I feel like I have a short time available to convince my grandchildren that God is real and the Bible is relevant. I want to have stories available that they can listen to over and over again. The Bible is a big book, so we must divide and conquer. Also, including adult humor is just so important, it makes kid friendly shows palatable to us adults who are watching them over and over again too. Thank you guys!

This is an excellent and engaging presentation. The puppets are well done and very animated. Phil Vischel is a great teacher. In this volume, there are choices presented where a youngster might be unable to draw the conclusion that the parent / teacher wants to be drawn. One example, several "creation" theories are presented. If you want the children to conclude that one or the other is "right," you will want to discuss that after viewing. As a teaching tool, it is motivating' but I would not consider it an end in itself.

I bought this set for my grandchildren. The oldest is 4 1/2. We watched the first DVD together, but there was too much background information that was way over his head. It jumps around a lot which is why I think he had a hard time following the concepts. We will wait awhile and try again when he is a little older. They all love Vegetales, so I thought this would be a great step with more spiritual depth. The puppets and format is very much like the Muppets. This is great for school age children.

"What's in the Bible?" is a wonderful & exciting new series for children (& adults). It helps them not only learn about what what each book in the Bible is about, it helps them learn God's over all plan for our redemption & salvation. It gives them the Big Picture. There are many fun characters, hilarious songs and well written dialogue! If you want your kids to be Biblically literate and know what's in the Bible from beginning to end and how to apply it to their lives--- then have a seat and enjoy this series! Watch an epidsode with your kids for family night at your house and then talk about it. You might even learn a thing or two :) I recommend watching them in order, as the next one in the series sometimes refers back to previous ideas and stories.
For the reviewer who said these weren't like Veggie Tales..... umm...it's not a Veggie Tales DVD. It's a completely new series with completely new characters by the person, Phil Vischer, who originally created Veggie Tales. Soooo....if you are expecting Bob and Larry to show up... they won't and don't. :)

My boys really enjoyed all of these videos. They are funny, yet accurate. It helped pique my boys interest into studying their own Bibles when they would stop the video to verify the information in their own Bibles. They had very catchy songs which helped them memorize parts of the Bible... like the order of Kings who ruled in first and second Kings in the Bible... this is covered in Volume 6.

This DVD lives up to its claims of giving an understanding of the big picture of the Bible. My 14 yo who has been homeschooled and knows more about the Bible than most adults, occasionally has to pause the DVD while she says, "Wow, now I get it!" My 6 yo isn't getting all of the big picture, but is thoroughly entertained and repeats random facts from the DVD when I least expect them. Adults will laugh at the humor and learn something too. You will want to watch the series in order, and don't expect many details on commonly known stories. Their goal clearly is to show how all of the stories of the Bible work together to show God's plan of redemption. It also does not avoid the difficult questions, and throws in a little bit of church history too. If you don't know why some Bibles contain the Apocrypha, this DVD will teach you.
